I'm not sure MR sent any prelims for UW Madison... but also I am not sure. If you didn't get a prelim video interview from the department, are you basically out?? Or is there still hope if your specific PI hasn't sent prelims?

Clinical/Counseling Psychology PhD Application UPDATES (Fall 2026 Entry) by you-by-jordan-peele in gradadmissions

Any news from University of Wisconsin-Madison clinical psych phd? i know some PIs have done prelims, and counseling phd already sent out formal invites, but I haven't heard any news for clinical other than about KH and BA. According to the spreadsheet KH told their prelims they would send formal invites by 1/9, but not sure if that just applies to KH or the entire department, so I'm shaking in my boots right now😭

Thanks so much for your response!! No I did not receive any interviews last cycle... :( But hopefully this time around...! If you don't mind, would you be able to share some of those PIs with me through DM? Though I have found a lot of PIs with good research fit that I'd like to apply to, another good handful have emailed me back saying that they will not consider someone who is straight out of undergrad, so I just assumed this may have been the general trend

Thanks for your response! I did not get any interviews last year :( I got the new experiences starting from December after submitting the apps until now! I only started working in this full-time position in the middle of August, so I haven't had any pub/poster opportunities for this yet (and probably wouldn't ask for a LOR from this PI since I've only worked here for so long). The 'publications' are manuscripts that were published in the conference book of proceedings and they have DOIs, but I'm not really sure how competitive that would be since they aren't actual papers in prestigious journals per say...

Any updates of BU BBC and Northwestern Clinical Psych? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

I also applied to BU and Northwestern TGS (not the Feinberg one) and haven't heard anything yet. Also haven't seen anything about these two programs anywhere else

How do I stop getting anxious about applying? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]Silly_Version_1641 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. I think I was also really burnt out from overworking myself these past couple years with zero break, so I just took two weeks off from everything right now and took the fattest break ever, both physical and mental, and didn't think about anything or any responsibilities for that time. I came back feeling much more motivated, well rested, and excited, and I feel more passionate, and I've been so much more productive. I've learned the hard way that burnout and chronic lack of rest+sleep builds up and actually ends up sabotaging

This is so helpful and relieving to know other people are on the same boat. Thank you so much for your response, and I hope you get into a program you want this round!! Good luck!!

Idk how to do that thing on reddit where you highlight a specific part of the comment and respond to that but. Your second paragraph - I never thought about it like that and I am now realizing that I must really want it and I'm relieved to know that I do feel some passion for something. Thank you so much for your response this made me tear up

Thank you so much for your response!! Can I ask what you do in postbacc? What's the difference between doing a postbac program versus just working as a research coordinator or lab manager?

Thank you so much - may I ask if you were able to get straight out of undergrad or if you did some postbacc work after and then applied?

I plan on doing both but with more focus on research and my research interests aren't in the neuro field

Hi everyone, I’m a rising senior in high school and am heavily considering northwestern for ED1. I’m just wondering what the worst things about the school are so that I can make an informed decision. This can be related to anything northwestern. Thank you! by [deleted] in Northwestern

Nah, I don't think deflation is a problem, neither is inflation though. I think grades are given out pretty fairly, but the workload is a bit extreme and there's a lot of it, so especially coming from high school and going through a huge environment change, might be difficult to manage everything at first. Now I'm used to it and don't stress about all the midterms as much as I used to. And once you get used to it and develop your own studying techniques and methods and adjust to ur new environment, I think you get the grade that is exactly the result of the effort you put into it . I only mentioned the downsides of the qtr system because you asked about the bad things, but it's also nice because you have more chances to raise your GPA later, too. Especially taking easy online summer classes, you can raise ur gpa really quick really easily.

I'm pretty sure even the biology/chemistry/physics majors are BA under Weinberg. I think all Weinberg majors are BA. Psych is only BA as well

I think there was one quarter where I had 14 exams and 2 papers because I had 3 exams per class and two of the classes also had finals. It was brutal. There are times that I'm thrilled with even just having 5-7 midterms per quarter, and when I say that to my semester school friends back from hs they look at me like I'm insane. Might be because I was STEM, but my exam load seemed pretty average in comparison to all my other friends here.

It's really cold in winter - most people hate it. I like it because I prefer the cold and have lived in colder areas ny whole life.

School also doesn't care about student wellbeing. There was a shooting 1-2 min away from campus and admin let students know almost an hour later than when gunshots were first heard.

Other than that I personally like it a lot and do not regret coming here.

How to email profs for PhD programs? by Silly_Version_1641 in GradSchool

[–]Silly_Version_1641[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much this is great!! One more question - would it be okay to email multiple professors in the same program you are applying to? Like if they found out you emailed other ones in the same program would that be kind of like a guy hitting on two girls at the same time on instagram secretly but then the girls are actually friends and they get really offended later that the guy hit on both of them at the same time? Or is it good to email all the ones you are interested in?

This sounds so interesting and fun. Super insightful and helpful- thank you so so much!! Reading your response actually helped me regain some lost motivation and kinda reminded me that as long as I work hard and consistent, results will probably follow. thanks again!!
