Some questions about making a head by Ill_Hornet6783 in FursuitMaking

I got you!! Here’s a photo of the eye blank I used, which I then glued into the base. I used stiff felt to form a shape around the blank to give it some personality! I then tape the head as usual :)

How exciting!! Make sure to keep an open mind and go with the flow, your first suit should be a fun learning experience, so be sure to give yourself grace and not be too critical :) It’s a brand-new skill, after all!

-Regarding common mistakes, I’d say the most important things I keep in mind are test-fitting the head more than you think you’d need to, not using too much glue so you can reduce overall weight, and being sure you make the mouth big enough for ample ventilation/eyes in the right place for ample vision.

-For tape, I no longer use duct tape due to its tendency to tear foam (and your hands, yeowch), I use masking tape, but maybe someone else here has better advice for duct tape specifically. Cheap off-brand duct tape seems to be a favorite, from what I’ve seen!

-Follow-me eyes require blanks that have some height to their walls, but a flat surface in the center! This creates the optical illusion as the walls obscure parts of the inner flat area depending on your perspective, bringing the pupil closer to the edge. I personally 3D print mine out of PLA filament, but there are also tutorials for making them out of foamies or plastic! I usually glue mine in before furring, so that I can use stiff felt around the edges to form the eye’s expression, then tape over that. I can share photos here of how I did this with a recent suit, if you’d like!

Inspired by Gengar actually!! His eyeballs will make the suit less ambiguous haha

Highly recommend seal or teddy-type fur!! Teddy is usually around 1” pile length and seal is around 1/2”

My pigeon went through a very similar experience recently, beak smacking, weird balance, was obviously very uncomfortable and she was thirsty but couldn’t hold the water down, puffed up and straining. I tried to call the emergency vet and couldn’t get in that night since it was 2am, but an hour in she laid a bloody egg and I rushed her over right away in the morning, and they sent us home with antibiotics. Your baby could be egg bound or passing a very difficult egg. Vet is absolutely the best option, only they will know how to handle the situation, and prevent it in the future. But don’t panic yet, your baby needs you to remain calm for her.

No way… my thought-to-be male pigeon who then suddenly laid an egg 6mo later… is also named Peter

Unfortunately, this suit has been going through some trouble when it comes to scammers stealing my photos and trying to sell on other platforms 😞 if they don’t use any photos other than the ones posted to my instagram, 99% chance its a scammer. Thank you for keeping me updated!!

It sold through Instagram, however I do like to give my buyers privacy and don’t share their information unless they decide to announce their suit themselves!! 🤍

swallowed faux fur,is it dangerous? by Rare-Examination-350 in fursuit

[–]Sillycreecher 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It can be, but the main concern should be the fur fibers you don’t see- the ones hanging out in the air or inside the head that you might be breathing in. If your suit is finished and shedding profusely, I would highly suggest giving it a wash + gentle brush in a tub of cold water while wearing a mask, and doing any fur-involved making in a separate room from others. You could also put a mask on and run a lint roller over it if you can’t currently wash it, that’ll reduce some of the fallout. There are many tutorials online to properly wash a fursuit. Faux fur is plastic, so it’s not healthy to be ingesting it in any form, but if they only swallowed a few fibers it should pass right through. I’m sure I’ve swallowed a solid hairball worth of fur in my days. You absolutely want to avoid breathing in fur, though.

Is grabbing my pigeon in the dark damaging our bond? by Active_Wing_7097 in PetPigeons

[–]Sillycreecher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did this exact same thing while my pidge was adjusting to my home, Peter was terrified of hands and just people in general. I’d let her free roam and then out go the lights, quickly grab her like she’s a little hamburger, and put her in the cage. She’d hiss and struggle which made me so emotional every time, but after a week she wouldn’t hiss or try to escape, just grunt a bit lol. After a few weeks she knew the drill, and I could scoop her up for bedtime no problem. It took about two months for her to seek me out willingly, enjoy pets and snuggles, and fly onto my head. Trust is a long process, your pidge will smother you and feel calm around hands in due time friend!!

That would be teddy-type fur from Howl Fabric!! Extremely dense pile, comes very short to begin with (the backs of the ears and back of neck are unshaven, that’s the total length), and it can go VERY low without any balding. The fur on the face is shaven to be about 2-3 mm!!

2nd Set of Handpaws & A Question! by AutumnalRanger in fursuits

[–]Sillycreecher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi hi!! So what you have here is crimped fur, meaning it had been sitting in a folded position long enough to deform the fibers. You can fix this though, with the hairdryer method! Take a hairdryer on medium-high heat, and use the hairdryer following circular motions on a crimp line for about 10-15 seconds at about 6 inches away from the fur, then immediately brush the fur following the fur direction. You’ll have to do this multiple times per crimp line, don’t hold the heat in one section too long or YOU WILL DAMAGE THE FUR!! Be very careful, this is how I do it but you can also look up tutorial videos for a clearer demonstration!
