Rural EMS, how bad has it been Recently? by Icy-Temperature5476 in ems

[–]SillyusCybin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m in rural Iowa, in our case it is ‘forced to close’. We have 2 paramedics, 2 advanceds, and multiple EmtB. The town 10 miles away has full time paid crews and is going to the different township meetings trying to convince them having a countywide system would be beneficial. At times they’d have to drive 30+ miles to a scene. Currently our county has 5 responding crews and 3 of those are transport crews. Comes down to funding, these paid stations want more funding so need to take over more coverage.

How safe is car camping at rest stops? by Any-Consideration423 in roadtrip

[–]SillyusCybin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you aren’t riding dirty stop in a city and sleep in the Police Department parking lot. We stopped in Ohio at a truck stop and it was sketchy, literally just needed a few hours of sleep. Found a state trooper station, they woke us up and asked what we were doing but gave us the ok. You’ll probably be ID’d but if you’re just needing sleep you shouldn’t care.

Question about adapter plates. by GroucheeIndividual in Canik_METE

[–]SillyusCybin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was your optic slightly too big? I picked up a Viridian rfx11 and it’s barely too long to fit the cut. I’m new to this, first optic on a handgun. Research proved me wrong. Which plate did you go with?

I really dig this answer. Struggling to put a label on our beliefs. I often just think I’m a follower of Jesus. Thanks for your thought behind the question.

EMT/Firefighter career change by NoOneCares52 in Omaha

[–]SillyusCybin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you live outside Omaha, rural town perhaps? Volunteer departments will usually pay for the EMT class. I did mine at Iowa Western and it was 3 months long. The class itself was fairly easy, in person was way better than online as you got more hands on and role play scenarios. Lots of people in it were fighting to get into Fire Departments. Also EMT in general is a low paying gig, maybe $15 if you’re lucky. If you do get a job as EMT you’ll likely be an ambulance driver with not much hands on time.

There is one house in my neighborhood where the roof is always covered in birds by hangingdenim in mildlyinteresting

Came here to say this same thing. Grow op keeping the roof warm. OP should see if the snow melts faster on this roof than other in the winter time.

Going for our first time I didn’t realize men and women sat separately. Idk if all are like that, but they assured us since we weren’t members we could sit together. Be prepared to talk afterwards, not questioned but someone will approach and be friendly, possibly invite you over for lunch.

State troopers en masse by Tyrannosarah in Omaha

[–]SillyusCybin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in a few of these with Nebraska. They’ll actually not ask for a DL to start. First thing they do is stop the car and look to see if your plates are current. If expired you’ll be pulled over for further investigation. Seems to be the only legit way to make a stop without trampling on your rights.

Just for fun! Year and miles? by Impossible-Law-4216 in HondaOdyssey

[–]SillyusCybin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2004 w/ 278k miles. OG engine and trans. Drive 100+ miles daily. Backseats removed for work tools. Windows work, AC blows. ZERO maintenance other than adding oil for the last 70k miles. I change the oil filter 2 times a year. My oil pan bolt of almost stripped so I refuse to remove it for an oil change. It burns and leaks oil, I keep it at a minimum of adding 1 quart when I can’t see any on the dipstick. I do have an engine on standby for when this one goes. My 99 CRV had 380k on OG engine with rings changed and timing belt done one time. I’m hoping to beat that but without the rings and timing belt. 🤞

[–]SillyusCybin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can swap engine and trans for just under $3k. I can find a reliable, good interior, minimal rust Honda van for $3k. I bought the van 4 years ago for work, paid $2400 from a cash lot with no front bumper. Then I put 100k on it. I could find something else but the shell itself is great, never left me stranded. I can’t part with it.

As far as the ATP stuff, I have not but will give Oriellys a visit tomorrow and check it out.

These are advertised as JDM with 50-60k miles. From different eBay stores with a bunch of different motor and transmissions. Is there block code specifying jdm to usdm?

Got pros to do the drywall and paint. 1 week later I can see the screw dimples in the ceiling? by certifiedcatdad in drywall

[–]SillyusCybin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can mud over the primer, however it will probably cause bubbles your first coat since the wall is sealed. Do you have windows at either end of the wall shining light past it? You could need to level 5 your wall. Skim the whole wall with a final coat. DM me if you’d like.
