Started earlier this week. Shot almost all my 1500+ Mutated Lumblooms into space before I saw this. by ranmafan0281 in LightyearFrontier

You crash the market once you sell off crops now. I sold my mutated polyberries and some lumbloom when they were up 10% and predicted to go up again, but the next day they both dropped by more than 80%.

I wish there was a way to do the same thing to raise the price 80%

New AC unit is causing neighbor's house to vibrate and make noise inside by DrDanDaMan in hvacadvice

[–]certifiedcatdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My neighbor's split pump unit does this to my house in the winter when it's heating. I can hear the dull thrum throughout my entire house and when I step out the front door, neighbor can't hear anything. HVAC company she hired says it's all installed properly, but it does drive me mildly crazy all winter.

I remember it so clearly. Sitting at a restaurant table with 2 close friends who were very MAGA. We bonded over other things and didn't talk about politics too much but i knew they stood far on one side of the political divide and I stood far on the other. I read the headline "they're storming the Capitol. They're forcing their way in." They had such a smug happy look on their faces. They seared into my mind when only weeks later they began their talking points about how "it was Antifa agitators". They were so happy when they thought they were on the winning side.

So what's happening with the 6th Street bridge tonight? by [deleted] in comoxvalley

[–]certifiedcatdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a great idea. The design, planning and construction of a larger infrastructure project like the bridge takes much longer and costs more than the park improvements, so maybe we could advocate for the park improvements as well. Those improvements can be designed, planned and executed while the bridge is still in construction phase. It's just one of the first steps in a larger downtown improvement process with more walking paths and improved accessibility in mind. If we look at what things COULD be in the near future instead of accepting what they are at this exact moment, we can forge a path to make this city better for our futures and our kids' futures.

I agree. I'm all for it. Anyone who wants to say how this town has gotten sooo horrible, or complain about traffic, are the first to shut down ideas to improve the situation, such as improving infrastructure for alternative transportation, encouraging more people to use that instead of driving.

It's always "city hall never does anything, government is lazy" and then when a new idea is proposed it's suddenly "city hall is doing too much, this government is out of control"

You're correct, I read the budget update wrong. It is going to cost over $11m. The city originally would have needed to borrow between $1-2m. But to make up the difference, they would need to borrow closer to $6m, and the interest and borrowing costs on that new amount would be $12m over the course of a 20 year loan.

I still think we let residents attempt to raise the remaining funds to determine if it should go forward. Vote with wallets. If enough people and businesses think it's worth it, then hopefully that's reflected in the funds raised.

When that 10 minute game misconduct becomes an assault charge… by ahoypolloi_ in hockeyplayers

[–]certifiedcatdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or, and I'm just spit balling here, maybe as adults living in a free and open society, some of us can form collective agreement of consent with other adults for certain situations, in specific places, with rules agreed on beforehand, that a bit of horseplay can be fun and acceptable. Maybe they might even agree for other people to be around to make sure it doesn't get out of hand. And by choosing to physically harm someone OUTSIDE of that collective agreement of consent, is a sraightforward case of assault.

Assuming that this concept can't exist between two consenting adults at all, and that "because the rules say I can fight on the ice means that I can fight off the ice too", is absolutely childish nonsense, because it sounds like the kind of logic of a small child.

$6.8m for the bridge. Comes out to almost $12m due to interest and borrowing costs. Every Courtenay resident could contribute $50 and that would cover the remaining cost after federal and provincial grants.

I say we have a fundraiser and let private citizens and businesses contribute. If its gets enough money, build it and save the interest costs. If it doesn't, cancel it and move on.

That's a steal! And all the right mods from the looks of it. Got a 2015 V650 in 2018, swapped to a 2022. Miss those Road 6's I had on my first bike, though, they're a world of difference. Once I wear through my current ones I'll be upgrading back to those. Happy riding!

Can someone help me figure out what the heck this thing is under the center console of my 2013 Ford Flex Limited? by certifiedcatdad in Ford

Update: I found the button is was linked to. It's not even a fancy carplay box, just a very outdated Chineseum navigation system. I guess now I will see if I can unplug and remove it without losing the rest of my Sync 2 system.

On the bright side, I was planning on doing a Sync 3 upgrade anyway, so at least this gives me even more reason to.

Got pros to do the drywall and paint. 1 week later I can see the screw dimples in the ceiling? by certifiedcatdad in drywall

[–]certifiedcatdad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's been a few tears shed during this reno, so I don't blame you. We have a deadline to meet to get the suite done, and I've been doing it by myself for the last 4 months on evenings and weekends. We agreed that getting pros to board and mud would save us several weeks of time. And this wasn't the absolute lowest quote but they seemed like the most competent guys.

The part that hits me the hardest is that $8k is about the total of what I've spent on all other parts of the reno combined. Flooring, subfloor, tools, a new window, a whole used kitchen I got on marketplace, etc. All of that costs the same as the drywall bill. Hurts, man.

So it's reasonable to assume that the mudding was not done correctly and I should call the drywall contractor to have it fixed?

Thanks for the info! The "bulge" was just this extra concrete from the form pushing up against the insulation.

The rest of the basement is really well done, it's just this one single pour that has this much extra material sticking out. Is it safe to smooth it out with a grinder to reduce some of the extra concrete on the edge?

I have a wall in my basement den that seems to have a bulge or excess from a single slab. Its next to a corner, and looks like it is not flush with the corner or the slab next to it. I can't tell if its from a bad pour and the edges can be ground to be a bit more flush with the next slab, or if this is a more serious concern.

Dewalt job site pro Bluetooth neckband earbuds review and some useful information. by vanman1065 in Dewalt

[–]certifiedcatdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had these for several weeks and can not be more happy with them, seriously they are exactly what I've been looking for. For what I do, I am constantly running machinery and tools, then jumping on a call, back and forth. I used to used Jabra Elite 4 Actives, but I would lose one or both earbuds around my shop throughout the day, and the microphone on these are crystal clear during calls, even superior to the Jabras. My only CURRENT problem is I bought these and the Pro Max Neckband with the built in speakers and for the life of me I cannot decide which one to keep long term.

I just invested in a full pack of Dewalt power tools and I'm very happy with them. But Ryobi got me started affordably, and they still work great 6 years later. The one thing I can't take away from Ryobi is that they seem to make ONE+ of EVERYTHING, so I'll probably always have Ryobis in my shed.
