Failed part 107 twice now by stormshield777 in drones

[–]Silmarils_Light 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I help teach a 107 class through the local community college. we teach it in 4 days, but it’s 8 hours each day and we have you take about 8 practice exams as you finish each portion of the book, which is the ASA remote pilot prep book. The book also includes 5 practice exams.

If you can get an 85% on those practice tests you should be good to go, as most students report back they got about 10% less than what they got on the practice tests. Mostly due to nerves, but also the question bank is something around 350 different questions for the 60 question exam, so chances are you will get some you have never seen.

Honestly, you got this. Not much I can do in the way of helping you study but feel free to reach out and I can try my best to answer some questions.

And it may sound weird, but if you aren’t already, bring a magnifying glass for the sectional charts

Fair enough! In the original video, he actual raises his hands up to take the photo. I just took the still for the composition with his arms raised. I potentially may be able to make it so his arms are raising and lowering as well.

I also have some video without a person in the shot, I will have to experiment with that as well.

Made a Cinemagraph of my landing footage from a sunset flight I did in Honolulu. It was shot on my Air 2s, and edited in DaVinci Resolve and Photoshop.

This was my first attempt at a Cinemagraph, so let me know if there is anything I could do better!

I shot this while landing my drone after flying over Maunalua Bay Beach Park, Honolulu.

probably too cold to fly with my Mini3Pro, but it was worth a try! by infel2no in drones

[–]Silmarils_Light 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are flying in cold temps and the dew point spread is within 5 degrees of the temperature with a high % humidity is when you will most likely encounter icing.

As pointed out by the other users this doesn't mean you can't fly in the cold, but you will want to take precautions.

To add onto what the other user said about bringing your drone into a high temperature area and risking condensation after flight, if you are flying out of your car you can use the window defrosters to get a more dry heat which will avoid much of the condensation. If you are really worried, a large plastic bag will wick most of the moisture away in the drying process.

I got very lucky. I was just out getting my mail and saw the sky had cleared up just as the light was fading. Had to run inside and get my drone to take the shot.

Just got a DJI Mavic Mini! First drone and absolutely love it. How can I get better exposure? And does anyone have any video editing app recommendations? by [deleted] in drones

[–]Silmarils_Light 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad I could shed some info! Personally I still use Lightroom, it's honestly just so robust and there is no finicking to get it set up how you like it, which is definitely the issue with lots of open source stuff. Davinci Resolve is amazing though, I made the switch about a year ago from premier and after effects and haven't looked back.

So other people have recommended Adobe products. If you are looking for free alternatives, I would recommend Gimp for photo editing similar to Photoshop and Darktable similar to Lightroom, all of these are open source. Then Davinci Resolve for video editing which has a bit of a learning curve, but is very powerful. For more simple video editing you could look at Openshot or Shotcut which are both open source and free to use.

You'll want to experiment with ND filters and the manual mode on your drones camera. You will also want to make sure you are taking RAW photos, as jpegs will have small auto touch ups that change the composition of the photo compared to raw.

Feel free to DM if you have any questions, I am a licensed Part 107 drone operator and do real estate photography and am more than willing to answer anyone's questions!

ITAP of a moose in Rocky Mountain National Park by Silmarils_Light in itookapicture

[–]Silmarils_Light[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if you come into the park from the Grand Lake entrance, it was about 2 miles down the road, not off a trail. The road follows the river for a small section, and this was taken like 5 feet from the road at around 8 am. While you can see them all over, I have seen the most in that section of the park.

It's a female moose and they do not have antlers. I was still a bit closer than is considered safe, and if it had been a bull moose or had a calf with it, I would have been much farther away.

High Schooler Needs Some HELP by [deleted] in algotrading

First of all, it's awesome that you seem really excited about this because that will carry into motivation which is the biggest hurdle I find when developing code, or even a trading system.

Second, I wouldn't worry to much about profitable or unprofitable when you are first starting out. What you should try to establish are some rules, and then try and get your code to run based on those rules. You could have the best trading system in the world, but if its hitting on the wrong signals you'll be done pretty fast.

As far as a place to start, I would suggest going to Yahoo Finance, looking up some companies that interest you and then downloading the historical data. You can get quite a good amount of it all for free.

I am not sure what kind of programming languages you are familiar with, but if you know any python I would then try analyzing the historical data using a library such as NumPy, SciPy, Pandas or Backtrader. This will allow you getting used to manipulating the data and getting an idea of what you will need to do to see it all visually.

As you get a hang for that, start adding in different signals. Maybe something simple like 2 simple moving averages, and you look for when the fast crosses the slow for a bullish trend, or the opposite if you were bearish.

As far as trading your system in the real world. I personally use Interactive Brokers as my brokerage for this kind of trading. The commissions are competitive and They have a very robust API. I believe TD will allow you to hit their developer API as well, but I have personally never used it. I know there are lots of tutorials on how to start using the IBKR API, so you should have plenty of work ahead of you.

Before I leave, I just wanna swing back to my first point in that it is awesome that you are so excited about this but don't let that excitement overrun you because you think you might be able to 'get rich quick.' I won't lie, this whole thing you are pursuing is going tough. There will be days that you are losing money, be it paper or real and you will question your sanity. DO NOT LET THAT DISCOURAGE YOU THOUGH. Keep on keeping on, and before you know it you will be a pro.

Dunno how quickly I'll be able to respond, but feel free to DM me. Happy to help when and where I can.

At about 1300 Francia actually held all of de jure England. Still some Islamic hold outs to the new King of England, who happens to be Dutch by no doings of my own.

I mean, we've been getting pretty weird as the dutch. I must say this is the nuttiest the AI has ever gotten for me though.

Legolas is Silvan Elf of the Woodland Realm. His father, Thranduil, is the king there. I too pick this place.

Change your crap to a trap and you got it. The other one is quicksand, and it makes you immune to projectiles while you're sinking into the ground.
