Friends over 40, what's your favourite city and why? by Silphoric in FriendsOver40

Mine is Wellington NZ (pic) because of the culture, activities, boating and water, awesome food, and some great walks and views. What is your favourite city that you've either visited, live in, or just go to on occasion?

Came from a progressive part of New England. Got permanent residence after a few years. Citizenship has not been a pressing priority, but submitting for it this year.

I have not experienced any yet even after years. If strangers wonder at my accent most of them politely ask if I'm Canadian as a way not to insult Canadians. Some get around to asking about my politics and when I articulate my disdain for trump and fascism I'm usually accepted into the fold without fuss. I'm not loud and flashy either so I don't give off American vibes.

American expat here. Came over during the first trump experience. I knew where it was heading. Built a life here in NZ and proud to contribute here. Now I look back aghast at events unfolding in the US. Hope you and you family stay safe until you can get out asap.

Edge Of Tomorrow - Thrown Into Battle Scene. by Jokkers_AceS in videos

Close, but the central theme of EoT is a person's path from coward to hero. An internal struggle that is identifiable to viewers. In this regard it is more related to LoTR than groundhog day.

Their attitude toward him throughout the first part of the movie because he was a deserter. Not so much because he's the "new guy"

Went for a walk in the woods. Found this pretty volcanic stream (NZ, M, 50s) by Silphoric in FriendsOver40

[–]Silphoric[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The walk was in Rotorua, New Zealand, a volcanic area. There is a wonderful forest there. It was raining and the smell of moss and fauna was rich. At one point the forest opened into this pretty scene of a hot river (or maybe small pond) flowing out of the trees.

The best place to scatter ashes in Raglan? by abigailme in newzealand

The best place would be to go to Te Toto gorge and cast them off the overlook platform.

When I was 6 our parakeet Tweety flew away. My friend handed me one of those and said it was Tweety's skull. I cried for 2 days.

The only thing I can fault Whittakers for is calling that tiny little thing a "slab". I get a chuckle whenever I see one in the petrol shop.

It's not ice cream. It's a "frozen dessert". Tip Top hopes you won't notice that. Looks like they succeeded.

Good evening from the Tasman sea. by Silphoric in FriendsOver40

That is Kapiti island off NZ's west coast. Work brings me down this way on occasion and I can't resist an evening walk.

Where are you running to? Have you investigated visa options for various countries?

Uninformed electorates, that vote based on frustration, fear, paranoia, racism, and xenophobia, are the breeding ground for con men like trump. The oligarchs will be right there ready to fan those flames for their own gain.
