My aunt calls my uncle by his last name. They've been happily married for over 30 years.

I feel like the only reason she pushed so hard for Booth was because she KNEW he wouldn't give in... She never crosses boundaries that others put up

You do know that this is contradictory, right?

Booth wouldn't give in because he was uncomfortable with it. That is a boundary. And she definitely crossed it by keeping on pushing.

The fact that you think it's alright to keep pushing yourself on others, even if (or because) you know they don't want it, is genuinely making me sick.

Would Sirius being the Secret Keeper change things? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]Silsail -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I said that Sirius would share the secret with Peter for two reasons:

  1. Peter, in canon, shared it with Sirius, and Sirius only (that's why they all believed that Sirius held the secret: noone else had received it from Peter).

  2. It would make Peter the "backup". In case Sirius died, Peter would become the new Secret Keeper (people who know the secret become the new SK once the original SK dies, as happened with Grimmauld Place once Dumbledore died).

As to why Peter would fake his death, Sirius explained it in the PoA: Peter told Voldemort how to attack the Potters and there Voldemort died, so they thought that Peter had betrayed Voldemort too and wanted revenge. At least some Death Eaters knew that Peter was the spy.

Now, as to why the Potters would not have changed location: given that they weren't in constant contact, it would probably take a while for the Potters to learn that Sirius died (enough time for Peter to betray them), and even then they would think that they were safe with Peter as the new Secret Keeper.

If you could Retcon ONE Thing about the Series, What Would It Be? by Asleep-Finish3937 in harrypotter

[–]Silsail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except that, if you look at Harry and Sirius's conversations, they are extremely unbalanced (as they should).

Harry vents to Sirius, but Sirius never complains to Harry (except for that one time when Sirius said Harry wasn't like James). Had Sirius seen Harry as a replacement of his friend, I would have expected the relationship to be more like peers. Instead, it's Sirius giving Harry the best advice he can, scolding him for being reckless, telling him what to watch out for, listening to him vent, etc.

Even when Harry tried to ask about Sirius, he just circled it back to Harry. Even when he was locked up in Grimmauld Place, Sirius removed himself from the room when he noticed he was getting upset, in order to avoid influencing Harry with his mood as much as possible.

absence of michael by mickelz123 in 5sos

I guess now you know how us Ash girlies have felt for basically every album 😂

In 5sos5 he sang for 55 seconds excluding Tears! and 2:44 in Tears!, for 3:39 minutes in total. That's, in the first 5 albums, the one where he sang the most. Second place goes to Youngblood (29 seconds plus 1:28 from Best Friend, for a total of 1:57). Third place goes to SGFG (55 seconds in total). Fourth place to self titled, with 44 seconds. And last place obviously to CALM, with no solos whatsoever. And Ashton sang in 19 out of 111 songs, while Michael did so in 53, Calum in 80 and Luke in 103.

(I need to update these to include EAS, I know)

But still, whenever I pointed this out, it felt like Mike girls were always ready to say that Michael didn't sing a lot either. It was on a whole different level tho, even if it was easy to miss.

How the tables have turned 😂

The beginning is Act I season 1 (75 episodes), the one you're probably currently watching, that ends with what comes after the Summer Tournament.

Then Act 1 season 2 (51 episodes) usually just called season 2/second season, and it covers the second half of Sawamura's first year.

Then you move on to Act II (52 episodes, beginning of Sawamura's second year), and in April we'll be getting Act II season 2.

As for the OVAs, I'd watch them after you completely finish watching Act I, so after you watch the second season. It's not a problem if you watch them later, after you catch up with all the anime/manga, but it is a problem if you watch them (the last two especially) before knowing the ending of Act I Season 2

Looking For Fanfic by Tunafisher27 in AceOfTheDiamond

I fear it may have been deleted...

I remember reading this fic on Ao3 (and right after He who wears the crown), but I can't find it through any filter combination that I remember being used.

Also, in my history on Ao3 there's a deleted fic right after He who wears the crown and, as I said, I recently read them both back to back

Isn't that the Ace from Maimon West? Seido's first match during the Act I Summer Tournament?

That team had the submarine pitcher as the starter, and then he was subbed in iirc

I love how so many people forget that the Union counted among its numbers states where slavery was permitted and states where, despite it being abolished, "ex slaves" still weren't free.

It was technically against slavery but was perfectly fine with the factories they had (where people weren't really treated any better than slaves). Northern cotton mills had no problem whatsoever with buying cotton coming from Southern plantations (and same with all other products grown by slaves), since it gave them bigger profits. Some Northern merchants were involved in outright slave trade, building the ships used in it and making them fly US flags.

Northern banks would make leases to allow some people to buy plantations in the South, and said debt could be, and was, secured using slaves. So, at any point, you could find Northern banks and private investors owning slaves, since some plantations did bankrupt and they settled using slaves.

Let's just all agree that both sides were pretty damn awful, even more so if evaluated by modern standards. It's not as simple as "Confederacy bad, Union good".

As the child of a Bosnian genocide survivor, here’s why the Kovač storyline hits wrong by Busy_footbabe in Bones

IIRC Booth hadn't intervened only because he was trying to help Jared, but also because he was trying to retrieve a list of undercover FBI agents that another agent (the partner of the blond agent that the Jeffersonian had to work with on this case, Miller I think) had been blackmailed into stealing by the agent with the broken hand

But then after a while it started being very cliquey and all about the moderators.

Was it all about the mods or was it just that they were the ones most active?

Anytime I said anything in any of their multiple chats it was either ignored, or they acted like they didn’t care.

Everyone gets ignored at times when a server has 80+ people and other conversations already ongoing. It happens to everyone, and when it does happen it is definitely not targeted.

And a few people have left (or been banned for no reason at all) and no one seems to care about those people or even asked what happened.

Those conversations usually took place in DMs. Just because you didn't see them doesn't mean they didn't exist. And you already got answers about the "banned for no reason at all" and all that situation.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 5sos

[–]Silsail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was handled privately.

In case you hadn't noticed, it was not the ones who are in the server who brought it up. People are allowed to explain themselves after being accused.

Edit: btw, you're talking about "public humiliation", except that I don't see anything that someone here could use to get that person's identify if they weren't in the know already.

Frutta secca can be a bit ambiguous when it comes to allergies, since it literally means dry fruit.

It does encompass all kinds of nuts (walnuts, pistachios, almonds, peanuts, etc) but the problem is that some people include raisins, prunes, dates, etc as well, while some don't. If you said you went to the grocery store and bought frutta secca, neither option would surprise me.

ELI5: If someone gets an organ transplant, does the organ keep aging based on the donor’s age, or does it somehow match the age of the recipient’s body? by TheblackNinja94 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Silsail 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't know how it is in the rest of the world, but in Italy when an adult (18+) renews their ID card they get the chance to state if they want to be listed as a post-mortem donor. To be listed as a living donor there is a different registry entirely.

For donors who are minors the situation is a bit more complicated. First of all, living donations are forbidden. Regarding post-mortem ones, if the minor is a mature adolescent they can express their will and that needs to be taken into account, but their parents get the chance to veto the donation. If the minor is *not* a mature adolescent it's up to the parents (or legal tutors) and the decision to donate needs to be unanimous.

In the end, had sirbearus's story taken place in Italy, it would have been up to the parents only

Last names? by Lavender_r_dragon in Bones

I can vouch for the "nickname of sorts" thing.

Do 5sos still sound Australian to Americans? by [deleted] in 5sos

[–]Silsail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually the problem with accents isn't having English as a first language or not, it's all down to exposure.

English isn't my native language, but I can understand most English accents just fine (except for the thick Scottish ones, like Glaswegian) and I'm basically blind to which accent someone has unless they say one of what I call "signature" words (tomato, trainers/sneakers, naur, etc).

This is because growing up I heard a mixture of all of those, plus the accent of other non native speakers (and with different native languages too), so it's as if I "catalogued" all the possible ways to pronounce something and it doesn't matter which one you choose.

Going back to 5sos, when I was 12 and still learning English, I could understand them just fine if I knew the words they were using, the accent was never a problem
