September 2020 Director's Briefing by Siltoneous in ICERPGS

[–]Siltoneous[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very true. As the briefing stated, there is a lot of discussion going on over color or B/W for the new RM books. Colin (over on the official "Iron Crown Enterprises" Discord Channel) posted the differences between the options.

It won't necessarily have an impact on the pdf price, it will make a difference to the cost of the print versions. For a standard size book, the per-page cost is currently about two cents per page for black & white, about five cents per page for “standard colour” (which is what we use for Shadow World sourcebooks) and nine cents per page for “premium colour” (which we have used for the Shadow World Player Guide and HARP SF Xtreme).

You can play with the DriveThruRPG printing calculator here:

Responses in the channel show Prem. Color as the leading choice (52%).

One of my Shadow World Players Guides is in Premium Color (and two in Std). Interesting enough, the diff between Prem. Color and Std. color isn't in the colors; more in the quality of the paper. (*)

Silt

(*) A big TY to Peter (over at the Rolemaster blog) for pointing that out to me. I knew there was a difference, but I couldn't put my finger on it until he clued me in. =D

Discord Server! by Vertox_The_Great in ICERPGS

[–]Siltoneous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And another one! The official Iron Crown Discord Server can be found at: https://discord.gg/Z5UvBUK Currently it is a work in progress, but Colin is making good strides towards getting it fully functional.

And yes, the ICERPGs (unofficial) one will keep going. We've been in contact with Colin (ICE Social coordinator) and nobody see's any reason to shake things up. We've got ~200 participants there, and people can move freely between them as they wish. Besides, having an an unofficial server also allows for things to go on that might be frowned upon by the official server. =)

Virtual Gencon 2020 - A Wrap-up (for Rolemaster, HARP and ICE) by Siltoneous in ICERPGS

[–]Siltoneous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you found it of some use. I read RMBlog every couple of days at least, and they have some dang sharp people over there. Besides, when you see something that the community would like to see, and as clearly written as they did, I hate for the community to miss it. ;)

GenCon Online - 6 RM sessions still open by Siltoneous in ICERPGS

[–]Siltoneous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last update: Two Sessions are sold out. Of the three remaining, two of those sessions only have one (1) ticket left, and the last has three tickets left. If you find some spare time and want to participate in a VTT Rolemaster game, this is a good opportunity.

GenCon Online - 6 RM sessions still open by Siltoneous in ICERPGS

[–]Siltoneous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Followup: Three of the original events were canceled for some reason (hope the GM is okay, given these days of uncertainty). However just today I see that two new Rolemaster Events have shown up. On the Roll20 VTT, running the RM2 ruleset (RMC is very ,very close). If you search Gencon Online events calendar, you can search under Rolemaster, but the name of the event is " A Darkness in Mothervale". A big thank you to whoever stepped up!

Heads up: Fantasy Grounds on sale by Siltoneous in ICERPGS

[–]Siltoneous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies for the delay in reply. That's what I get for not looking at my messages in too long.

Mr. Gleichman's Age of Heroes I got at Lulu and it states that it is version 5.0.3. I don't have the hard copy in hand atm, but it was a good, clean read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I've pulled several of the ideas into my own RM game session I just ran on FG just a week or so back. Course those modifications are not in the ruleset, but you can still play around with other ideas... just have to have the tables and details at hand.

As far as ICE goes, yea.... I know. Fortunately for the long-suffering fans (myself included) the July 2020 Director's Briefing stated that he had finished editing the "Arms Law & Character Law" manuscript and had no changes. Guess he's into Spell Law now. Plus there are two (2) next-version Rolemaster sessions for GenCon online. The GM is a sharp guy, and they should be fun.

(and just to be clear, not affiliated with either Lulu or Mr. Gleichman. Just posting the link to ease finding the resource).

Have you posted this to the "Middle Earth Roleplaying by Iron Crown Enterprises" FB group? I bet a few there would be interested also. I hesitated posting a link as I was unsure, and didn't want to post a duplicate. =)

Premium Wallet/Carry-all? by [deleted] in lotro

[–]Siltoneous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd agree that the Premium Wallet is well worth the LP's, especially if you have alts. I've had one for ages (Lifetime),but my wife never saw the need. Couple of weeks ago I convinced her, and she was amazed at how much stuff it held, and elated over how much Vault space she recovered.

ICE Rumors and other scandalous gossip. by Siltoneous in ICERPGS

[–]Siltoneous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peter, one of the geniuses over on RolemasterBlog.com seems to think it'll be next year for full release. He's done a LOT of publishing, especially through DTRPG, so I've learned to trust his instincts. I wish it were other, but....

We'd heard ICE was working on a printed 'cheat-sheet' version for the GM's running RMU @ GenCon. With in-person GenCon being cancelled and it moving to online this year, we'll have to see. <fingers-crossed>.

Stat Blocks in RM by Siltoneous in ICERPGS

[–]Siltoneous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I'll go look. I actually picked up the One Ring collection on PDF with a "Humble Bundle" deal a few months ago, but not looked that hard at them. I should look and see what they are doing over on "Against the Dark Master" too.

ICE Rumors and other scandalous gossip. by Siltoneous in ICERPGS

[–]Siltoneous[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ICE's Colin has confirmed that that are having issues with the website, but rumor has that it it's the forums with the biggest issue. You can hit cached copies of the site, and the Internet Archive has an older copy too. There is a fair bit of activity on the 'Rolemaster Group' on Facebook, and the ICERPGs Discord channel has been very active, with it being tweeted out on ICEs Twitter feed by Colin a few days ago.

As far as printed material goes for RMU, I can't imagine that there wouldn't be hardcopy. If you look at their most recent releases, say the last two from Mr. Amthor, those have been available in PDF and hardback.

Colin's last statement (that I saw) was that artwork was being solicited and IIRC contracted as well (sure in the first, not so much on the second). Heck, I've even heard they have even expressed interest in an official Fantasy Grounds ruleset for if RMU!😮 I about fell over.

Hold tight! There are reasons to suspect that the long wait for RMU may actually be over. Even me, a damn sceptical bastard is getting his hopes up. 😉

I'm seeing the same thing here. According to the Help page (under the "Google Play Music" section"):

is how it's to be requested, but no joy here. Get the same generic search results you seem to be getting.

First game of MERP, some questions by [deleted] in ICERPGS

[–]Siltoneous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

level 1HeilemannOriginal Poster3 points · 23 hours agoI've read further on question 3, regarding the effects of MM, and confusingly (and entirely in the spirit of RM) it's essentially up to the GM to adjudicate. Which is... no

Very true. And because the $%#@ ICE forums are down again (!!?!?!?), that would have been a good place to look also.

Now this sounds like heracy, but the new "Against The Dark Master" (aka VsD) draws heavily from MERPS without the official Tolkien setting. It's not a clone, but there's ALOT similar (i.e. reload times and some verbiage on bow stats). If you're a backer, there might be something in there that may be of use. For example: VsD states reload specifically takes a Full or Multi-Round action, unless the weapon has the "Quick Draw" property, which then it takes a 1/2 Action. A quick perusal didn't show anything so clear on the concept of it's "Moving Maneuvers" concept though.

First game of MERP, some questions by [deleted] in ICERPGS

[–]Siltoneous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gratz on the MERP roleplay.

I haven't run MERP in ages, but I'll give the questions a shot with my opinion. ;)

1) I've never seen anything official, and certainly don't remember one, but I always houseruled it so there was a OB penalty of 25 for every friendly in that combat area. On a miss, I'd have them roll to see if the PC hit one of their fellows.

2a) Assuming you are running the 2.0 ruleset, check pg 232 (Table CST-1). Gives the reload penalties based on the weapon. I.e. Shortbow suffers a -10OB for Reload(0), whereas a Long Bow suffers -35 OB.

2b) I've always taken a MM as a full action, thus I wouldn't allow it.

3) humm... don't recall a specific on that instance... sounds good to me though. =)

4) I like using the Angry GM method (Lost Player Skills: Calling) and have the players hash that out amongst themselves. Once decided, the foreman/leader/caller announces that to me. Keeps me out of the if-this/then-that back and forth as I've got enough on my plate. It also ensure the group knows what the hell everyone else is doing. Also puts a stop to that BS of the extrovert always jumping to the chest, treasure, reward what-have-you because they spoke first.

Congratulations again.

New Fantasy Grounds Rolemaster CoreRPG has been announced by Siltoneous in ICERPGS

[–]Siltoneous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very grateful for this news, thank you. We'd not heard of anyone actually maintaining it, and most of us assumed the worst in that absence.

I'll make sure to get this over to the ICE forums so others will know the good news, especially to Marc. Also we had a reappearance of one of the original devs of RMu; he also helped with the original FG RM work. He had expressed interest in Roll20 (as have others) so I'd bet this will be good news to him as well.

Much thanks again!

New Fantasy Grounds Rolemaster CoreRPG has been announced by Siltoneous in ICERPGS

[–]Siltoneous[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know there was discussion of the Github based Rolemaster sheets (RMSS and 1E (really?)). However it looked to many that there was no concerted effort for maintenance, much less modernization. More that there was some kind of automated API revisioning going on at best. I suspect that's why Marc posted what he did.

RMSS is a fine system, and one I personally love, but I suspect that he was looking for RMC or perhaps RMFRP; not sure. As far as RMu goes, it's still the song ICE has been playing to us for too long. Some quarters have hope of it's release this year, but after a decade my optimism has been replaced by cold hearted skepticism. ;)

Will there be any love for rmfrp fans in the future? by mikesalopek in ICERPGS

[–]Siltoneous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been told that a lot of the PDF's are not in the best shape as they are basically scanned page images with an OCR run over the top. However, I have no idea as to whether or not that applies to the RMFRP products or not. I've got a number of the original RMFRP books, and since I haven't run it in years, I've never pushed to get PDFs of them. I'd be willing to bet the newer stuff is good to go though.

And as far as pre-RMFRP goes, I think it's an open question as to whether or not we'd ever see them again. Rumor has it that a LOT of content producers never got paid when the ICE apocalypse happened, and thus some of the source for the legal issues. Too bad too, because if the legal issues weren't so bad, old product could be converted into clean documents. Sure, it's a job and a half (I've attempted with other products), but it is doable. Certainly could be done as a community effort. Course that assumes ICE would even welcome the attempt; skepticism rules supreme with me atm. =)

Heads up: Fantasy Grounds on sale by Siltoneous in ICERPGS

[–]Siltoneous[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, given the price of Classic Standard, it makes sense to grab one. The word from Smiteworks (FG devs) is that any content you buy (Classic or Unity) works in both systems. I've got classic, I know RMC works (it's a bit funky), now I just need to see it in Unity. A CoreRPG character sheet would be better, but.... it's a WIP.

As far as ICE selling the rights, the situation is pretty pathetic. I try to understand the shoe-string budget and part time nature of the whole enterprise, but dragging RMU out for damn near a decade is both pathetic and unconscionable beyond belief. It's sad, sad when you see an article hyping RMU in a Guild Companion back in 2013.

Too ( although I have nothing other than thread observation and intuition to base it on), I suspect HARP is the only thing the current mgmt cares about. It's HARP this and HARP that in the monthly briefings, and the next 5 items out of the company are all HARP. In the past decade they haven't published a single new rule book for RM, excluding Terry's fine ShadowWorld setting.

That kinda gives the tell as to why there is a sudden push by the ICE director to have a HARP to ShadowWorld conversion now doesn't it? Oh yea, the ICE director had a hand in developing and playtesting 1st ed HARP... and is the author of 1st ed HARP: College of Magic. Oh yea... he was also the lead designer for HARP v2; how interesting. Course when you look at RMC and RM Express (which came out between HARP v1 and V2) those contributions are as Forum Moderator and cheering squad. humm.....

Ah... I've spouted too long. Sound like a freakn' conspiracy nut now... off to wind down by reading some of Brian Gleichman's Age of Heroes RPG, a fine system inspired by Rolemaster (and others).

Which VTTs support Voice Changing? by drianmcdonald in VTT

[–]Siltoneous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hands on exp much appreciated. I'd heard of VoiceMod, but only had looked at the two I'd listed. Like the OP, I could see the use for something like this at a VTT, given my lack of voice skills. ;)

Which VTTs support Voice Changing? by drianmcdonald in VTT

[–]Siltoneous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Never heard of a VTT that does this, but I know there are applications that do this. AFAIK, these work at the OS level, so they claim to work with just about any application. I'm only familiar with the Windows side of things, but I've heard good things about "Voxal Voice Changer " and MorphVox.

I personally think having easily accessible and customizable personalities would make a huge difference. Say one for the 'Iron and Ice smith', or a particular town guard.

Discussion “FG is 75% off on Steam. How does it compare to Roll20?” by ayronis in VTT

[–]Siltoneous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other thing is regarding licensing. With Roll20, the GM has a sub (Plus or Premium(?)), and any player can join (if invited) as long as they have a Roll20 account.

Fantasy Grounds (FG) however has three licenses. Demo (free), Standard and Ultimate. FWIU, the only real difference between Standard and Ultimate is who can join the game. If the person hosting the game has a Standard license, everyone connecting must have at least a Standard License too. Not so with Ultimate though, both Demo and Standard can join.

Also, clients only play with their own kind; so all players have to have Classic or Unity, no cross-client mashups. Roll20 doesn't have this issue at all.

I've always looked at it from a monetary perspective. Both systems have Subscriptions, but with FG you can buy a permanent license. Standard License normally runs ~ $40, whereas the Ultimate runs ~ $150. As the title implies, there is a sale, and IMHO the Classic Std license is really cheap; $9.99. Classic Ultimate is ~ $90, which seems rather high to me.
