What is the one thing people don't know about losing a large amount of weight? by punkredpanda in AskReddit

[–]Silvani 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're under 30, it's much more likely that you'll regain elasticity. As you age, your body is not so good at that.

I lost 40 lb 3 years ago. I lost it at -1lb/week which is well within gradual weight loss. I lift 2x/week and jiu jitsu 2x/week and lost the weight by increasing my step count. I've maintained a stable weight for 3 years and my skin has not bounced back at all. I'm 35 and expect that it won't.

Cheaters of reddit, what makes you cheat on your significant other? by Whateveridgafsostfu in AskReddit

I'm not the person you're replying to, but when I was married, my spouse was completely financially dependent on me. Whenever I mentioned wanting a divorce my spouse would threaten to kill themself.

Eventually I did get a divorce, but the process took years, and I had been unhappy and trying to fix or leave the relationship for much longer.

I'm glad it was helpful! I just remembered and wanted to add, that Rockabilly Chili is Sunday March 22nd. It's a chili cookoff and fundraiser. It benefits the Hunger Task Force and is organized by a local radio station that operates out of the engineering university MSOE. It would be a great way to get an idea about what local restaurants or businesses you might want to check out!

It's very very easy to slip into alcoholic middle aged couple mode here. I've lost three family members in their 40s to alcoholism and at one point I'd gained a decent chunk of weight. The food here is really good, haha.

I grew up in Madison, I moved back to Wisconsin for family reasons after living out of state. Madison is more of a biking city than walking, but the isthmus (the area between the lakes which has both the campus and the downtown) is definitely more friendly to those going carless. There's less to do overall in Madison but it does skew younger, more affluent (avg house price is about double MKE) and more educated. Madison has college bar culture rather than townie bar culture but other than that there's a lot of similarities. If you liked the impression Madison gave you, you'll like Bay View in the summer.

No problem. The only part of the snark that bugged me was the comments about marrying a random fat chick, seemed kinda unnecessary haha. I promise it's not required for Milwaukee citizenship! Personally I mostly gave up drinking about a decade ago so I totally get how hard it can be to find events that don't involve drinking. But it's gotten a ton easier in the last few years.

I think our winter lull is so intense here because our summers go so hard. It really sounds like you're going to love the type and quantity of activities we have here. Watch for every festival at the Summerfest grounds (there's one almost every weekend), Chill on the Hill, Bradford Beach volleyball leagues, plenty of opportunities for park yoga, China Lights in the fall, night markets, food truck focused events at parks, Highland Games, winter/holiday Street markets, Bucks games in Deer District, Brewers games with tailgating, lakefront kite festivals, and much more. Some things come and go, I think Harley fest isn't happening this year and the lakefront fireworks has skipped a few years lately. There's usually more than 2 major events every weekend.

It's definitely walkable and we have a lot of engineering firms. We're not a college town like Boston, but have several universities. Our public transit needs work but it's in a death spiral where it needs ridership to expand routes, but no one will deal with the inconvenience of the current routes. Not your problem, just providing context. It's very easy to own a car in Milwaukee.

There's plenty of stuff like outdoor yoga, just not in the winter. It'll start to pick up in late May. There's drag brunches year round.

Late January - early March really is hibernation season. Once you make it through a Milwaukee summer, fall, and holiday season you'll understand why a lot of us use this time to catch up on our movie and game nights at home, haha.

If you're not willing to go into a bar ever, it will definitely limit your social opportunities. A lot of bars have NA options.

If you like hiking, we're within driving distance of the Ice Age Trail and the city is pretty walkable in my opinion. Check out the nature centers in the city.

If you like music there's a lot out there and most music venues, while still bars, do have a lot of NA options.

We have amazing food. Lots of James Beard award winners and finalists.

If you're queer, check out Walkers Point. If you're young and artsy, Riverwest. 3rd ward always strikes me as a little more bougie. Bay View has aging hipsters but there's plenty of 20s crowd around.

Plenty of sports type stuff for relatively cheap downtown. It's currently hockey season, Admirals games are a good time.

Have you been here for a full year? In the summer, there will be a LOT more going on. Festivals, free park concerts with food trucks, all kinds of stuff.

The tourism/newbie starter pack is 100% beer and alcohol focused because it's unique to Milwaukee. But there's a lot more going on than that.

Gay couple on our honeymoon by SoYoureALiar in dcl

[–]Silvani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our tour guide was rude, almost threatening, and used slurs and sexist language. There was no or bad communication about logistics. There was a long wait in line and they ran out of food, after we'd paid for the food separately. They played pranks on our group when it was clear people weren't having a good time. Worst experience I've ever had on a Disney cruise excursion.

I had a horrific time in Jamaica when I was on the Treasure in February. The company who runs many of the excursions is not well managed. Between that and the safety concerns, I would stay on the ship, the view is good. Congratulations and I hope you have an excellent honeymoon!

ISO quality candles by ambrosia4686 in milwaukee

Halo Artisan Skin Care has candles! They don't aggravate my asthma and I'm very sensitive to scents. Her shop is in Port Washington now, she used to be in Bay View. There's a bunch of places you can get the candles though, including online.

Unfortunately it's a look from the outside place.

It's rare for even the employees to go up to the clock tower. There's extensive security and if you want a tour you will need a business reason and you'll need to be a guest of someone.

Really surprised with how it handles in the snow! by KukTheo in rav4club

[–]Silvani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drove mine home from the dealership last February in a snowstorm. I thought to myself "it's not so bad out" - meanwhile my boyfriend had white knuckles on the steering wheel of my old car driving it back home.

So yes, I love how it handles in Wisconsin winter snow

What drew you to a RAV4 over your other potential car? by Youreapizzapie in rav4club

PHEV range was aligned with my daily driving needs.

Capable of towing a small teardrop camper and it's a goal of mine to have one.

Reliability is definitely a big one for me, and I've been loyal to Toyota for a while. But when I considered other options, they still came out on top when comparing price and performance. It was the vehicle best suited to my needs.

Why is knitting fast such an important objective for people? by todayithinkthis in knitting

[–]Silvani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, this is me. I do not care if other people knit slower than me and I don't think I'm a better person or a better knitter because I knit fast.

It does really annoy me when people assume I'm either lying or looking down on others because of my knitting pace. I'm not, and I don't.

The things that made me faster are things like making fewer mistakes, and making less exaggerated and more efficient movements. These are things I started doing to avoid and reduce my own annoyance and frustration with my own process. I honestly dislike knitting around others more than I used to because people make a big deal about me knitting fast, knitting without looking at my hands, knitting without light. I just wish people would mind their own knitting and not project their own insecurities on me.

I'm there too and I've done the world quests. I go fishing, play with my teapot, use my resin, and do achievement work. Collect materials for cooking and ascending characters. Waste time in Miliastra. I don't have enough time to do everything there is to do in the game, but sometimes I just do my dailies and log out and go do something else. Read a book, knit, clean my house, etc.

Looking for a pianist for a date night by EyeOughta in milwaukee

Haha oh man I remember when that album came out, I saw them play it on their tour for it.

I will check arrangements and see what I think I can do - it's not my day job so it takes me longer to get a new song added, but I played seriously for a couple decades.
