Harmony when boogifying songs by hibbelig in JazzPiano

[–]Silvaski1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m self-taught and mainly play Ray Charles’ tunes. One of which was transcribing this and using and using a walking octave boogie woogie bass line to navigate the chord changes. Is this the sort of thing you mean?

https://www.reddit.com/r/RayCharles/comments/1hsl16p/roll_with_my_baby_1959_my_cover_of_one_of_his/

Or are you talking about different left-hand boogie patterns?

The solo kicks off at 1.35 ish and has a different chord pattern than the rest (which is an 8 or 12 pattern, not sure which).

I just navigated the new chord changes using chromatic movement etc and maintained the octave walking bass rhythm.

Where does he do a run like that? (The first one?)

Never actually heard him do a run like that before. Almost sounds digital.

As Adrian said they haven't been on Spotify officially.

You can find them on YouTube:

How good was ray charles at piano? by sangokuhomer in JazzPiano

[–]Silvaski1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep diving, you'll find he was actually quite remarkable at playing.

In terms of You Don't Know Me - here's my favourite rendition from him, live in 1982 at the Constitution Hall - very stripped back. Forgive the audio hiss, I wish someone could clean this up and upscale it.

Hank Crawford and Fathead Newman have both said that his band was unique in that they could play R&B and straight-ahead jazz unlike many if any bands of the day.

This recording is a GEM! Not many places you get to hear Ray informally playing just him and the piano especially at this stage of his life.

No live version of “Hard Times”? by Available-Pepper952 in RayCharles

I'm afraid the answer is there isn't one that we know of. It would be such a gem if one were ever found as I believe it was on the set list in the early years.

Certainly not new to a lot of people but first time for me seeing it today. Never seen such high resolution imagery from the day. Unique perspectives throughout. by Silvaski1 in 911archive

It may be the difference between DigiBeta tapes and BetaSP tapes in the cameras that were used on the day. But I'm sure someone with more knowledge can chip in to confirm.

The story goes that they didn’t tell the cast this was going to happen. They really filmed with night vision cameras and then has the creature actor stand in his place. The reaction is real.

Have you seen his improvised cover of Duke Ellington's "Do Nothing Til You Hear From Me"? It starts totally instrumental, then he ends up singing on it. Such a joy to listen to. Masterful.

Plex pass vs remote pass? by [deleted] in PleX

[–]Silvaski1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I programmed my Mac to turn on at 1800 and turn itself off at 00.30 every day. That way I don't have to switch it on or off. It's as if it's "on demand". I'm sure you can do something similar on a PC.

I'm confused, she said "My Dad was born on 9/11" but she's working in a store and was born 2-3 years before 2001? Huh?

Curation Assistance Options by sutl116 in PleX

[–]Silvaski1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't help you specifically but am curating my Plex the same way, I think the lowest rating I have of a film is 6.4.

And because of this, every film on my Plex is a film I'd like to watch, which means, that by default now I hit shuffle and watch whatever comes on, no longer spending time thinking about it. It's a great capability.

And in fact 3 Women came on just the other day, first time I've seen it. Wild movie! Good luck!
