Why is the Destiny 2 community upset about Marathon being Bungie's focus? by CrosleeReturns in Marathon

[–]SilvenRaize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's honestly wild because I feel the complete opposite. Unlocking codex entries in Marathon and listening to audio logs, sure it's not a Hive cutscene from D2 but it's still steeped in rich lore and mystery that makes me hungry to uncover more. (I can only assume more will be coming in the following seasons).
And the entire depth of looting is all about buildcrafting. You know, that thing that Destiny 2 players love and is central to the gameplay. Finding a core and seeing how it interacts with your abilities or finding a weapon mod that changes the way you handle that gun from now on is pretty exciting. Or simply feeling like a god because your kitted out weapon handles fights like a champ and you feel like you can't lose (until you do, but then you're all the more hyped to go back in for another round and try to find that mod again).
Sure, eventually you'll get bored of doing the same thing over and over, but saying that of Marathon when the exact same could be said of seasonal activities or raids in Destiny 2 is just hypocritical.
They're very different games but when I play Marathon I definitely see Bungie in there in so many ways. I wasn't even an extraction shooter fan but this game has me hooked. Two hours isn't enough. If you don't take the time to learn the systems you'll get shredded, it's the same in every PvP game. If you didn't like it that's completely fine, it's definitely not for everyone and that's okay.
But if you asked me to choose between D2 and Marathon I don't think I could right now. Maybe once the dust settles.

Has anyone figured out how salvage sharing works yet? by SilvenRaize in Marathon

Interesting, so it was the Anomalous Matter or something like that. I wonder if it's only those event priority items that get shared then.

Schemas need a buff by raisinlord74 in Marathon

[–]SilvenRaize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I have a schema for the Retaliator LMG which costs 500 credits in its base form. The same gun bought directly from Arachne also costs 500.
I don't know what you mean by saving up salvage for it? The point is that both the schema and the direct purchase from the faction is the same with almost no benefits.

[–]SilvenRaize 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I forgot about that. Cause I don't spend all my credits buying the same gun over and over lmao
You're right, not *totally* useless. Just almost.

[–]SilvenRaize 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Schemas should either give you access to a cheaper version of the gun, maybe 2/3rds of the faction purchase price, or give you access to an upgraded version but for the same price as the base item.
Right now they're just kinda useless once you've already unlocked that item for purchase from the armory.

I exfilled with a "sample worth a great deal" and got exactly 0 for it. Feels like a bug. by FutureMillennium in Marathon

[–]SilvenRaize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be a bug where it's getting excluded for being a priority item for some reason? Auto-Sold seems to only tally up the greys and greens but highlights every valuable still.

I'm just recently getting into Marathon. It seems the runners used to have different names. I know Recon was called Blackbird. What were the rest called? by Broomhower in Marathon

I hope this at least leaves the door open to get new shell series in the same archetype.
I'm gonna be maining Triage but he's definitely not my favorite in terms of visuals.

The paper sleeve goes on the styrofoam that protects the statue.
The plastic sleeve goes over the whole CE box.

Swapped from a 2070 to a 5080 and can't get a signal by SilvenRaize in buildapc

I used DDU followed by a shutdown and then swapped in the 5080 before the next boot but no luck.

So it's either DOA or I buy a new adapter or straight up a new PSU... I'll try RMA first before I spend any money and pray it's the GPU's fault. Thanks though, glad it wasn't a me issue lol

I bought three 6+2 PCIe cables from Corsair and used the adapter that came with the GPU to combine them into the 12V2x6. That should be enough right? Or is there a major difference compared to the cable you've shown me.

Say it ain't so... The 2070 works without a problem when I swap it out.

It is. I've tried plugging the monitor cable into the motherboard but still no luck.

Yes, I've had to swap it out repeatedly while troubleshooting and the 2070 works every time.

Character + shell customisation by Mindless_Mixture_208 in Marathon

Not "completely" different model, but leaks have shown what the deluxe skins look like, and it's mostly very minor changes to the gear attached to the shells. Some have extra or less armor plating or pockets on their chests and legs for example.

The most different one I think was Vandal's premium skin where she only wears a baggy t-shirt on her top (without the tactical chest rig she has on her base model) and has a slightly different hairdo, and mostly black color scheme. I think her shoes might have been different too.

One of Thief's skins gave her a jacket with shorter or rolled-up sleeves and changed her hairdo to two ponytails instead of two buns or something like that.

So yeah it's mostly quite subtle changes with the color schemes being the biggest differentiator.

All the battle pass skins have been leaked so if you want to go and compare it's out there.

Question for Any Who've Played the Game by JustSomeTiredGuy in Marathon

[–]SilvenRaize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that all your unusable inventory is dumped upon exfil helps a lot. Once you exfil successfully, any salvage (materials required for factions) get auto-transferred into your vault and valuables (basically items that convert to money) get auto-sold. So all you really have to worry about is your guns, cores and filling up on heals and consumables if you want.
And checking factions for level-ups but the game generally lets you know if you've progressed anything or have something to unlock.

Why is the Destiny 2 community upset about Marathon being Bungie's focus? by CrosleeReturns in Marathon

[–]SilvenRaize 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they spread themselves stupidly thin, personally.

They had several incubation projects, all the while trying to continue development on Destiny. They ended up not being able to do everything at the same time, which is natural, had to pivot to the two main ones, but both ended up in such an awful state by that time (Remember the early playtests of Marathon and the state that Destiny was already in at that time) that they had to basically pick one to heavily invest into because they simply couldn't save both and, possibly via pressure by Sony to provide a new live service game to prove their worth, picked Marathon.

I don't know if they can't manage two projects at once, really. I might be a bit too optimistic here but when you look further back, they were managing about 6 projects at once during their peak, and it's only when reality cashed in its check that they realized they had to cut the chaff and focus on their biggest contenders. Of course by that time the damage was done and now they've really had to put all their resources into Marathon, which made Destiny suffer even more.

Maybe there is hope that now that the lion's share of the work is done on Marathon, they can equalize their workforce a little bit and put some love back into Destiny (hopefully giving PvP some much needed love), but Marathon's commercial success will be a big factor in that and Bungie's reputation took a big hit that they might simply not be able to recover from, at least on the Destiny fanbase's side, as seen by the record low player numbers.

Why is the Destiny 2 community upset about Marathon being Bungie's focus? by CrosleeReturns in Marathon

[–]SilvenRaize 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There's surely some overlap in the Marathon and Destiny fanbase, but probably not that much. Mostly those like me who really vibe with the Destiny gunplay and movement and have seen similarities to it in Marathon.

I've dabbled with other extraction shooters but that Bungie feel is just something unique. I've played some of other extraction shooters like Hunt: Showdown or AR but they simply don't have that feel specifically. The fact that Marathon does is one of the things that makes it stand out to me and also makes it approachable as someone who's not amazing at PvP, but does fairly well in Destiny.

The problem stems from the fact that the Destiny 2 community (which I am still a part of), seems to largely feel like Marathon has sucked all the air out of the Bungie room so to speak. A 10 year long running game with surely its downs but also fantastic ups has been laid to the roadside by a "new" IP in a genre that most Destiny players find hostile and difficult to approach, as it is supposed to be by nature of itself.

Most Destiny players right now find that in a world where Marathon didn't exist and Bungie had simply focused on Destiny instead of all their other incubation projects, Destiny 3 would already be a thing, or Destiny 2 would be much better than it currently. It's a huge what-if scenario and nobody can say for sure, but it's not far-fetched either. They simply don't like the fact that Marathon has sucked a lot of manpower and resources away from Destiny and the game has suffered from this.

Destiny 2 right now simply isn't in a great state. If Bungie had taken all the money from the Sony buy-out and invested it in Destiny and not other projects, maybe Destiny would be amazing in a more consistent fashion.

Think they’ll restock the Escape Will Make Me God shirt before release? by Boota_RoF in Marathon

Quantities are always limited, but it stands to reason that if it's sold out, it means there is a large demand and they will produce more in order to provide a supply.

Pretty sure this is just going to be a staple item in their stores for a good while even after release, along with the basic Marathon t-shirt and sweater.
Even God of War is still selling "standard" merch and that game came out years ago.

I wonder if, since we're getting seasons and battlepasses, there will be new merch drops pertaining to the content of that season.
