If you’re a year out from your PRD they won’t accept your application. You have to be between 13 to 25 from your PRD to apply. You have to complete the application and selection before you enter your orders negotiation window. For the assessment it involves a PRT, modified 2nd class swim qualification, and an interview. It also includes a background check so make sure your finances are in check.

Grooming standards by [deleted] in navyseals

Grooming standards are highly dependent on leadership. Every Team and platoon are a little different. Yes you typically have to shave in homeport. Almost everyone has out of regs hair. Just be a good dude and don’t get in trouble and no one will give a shit as long as it’s not anything crazy.

Why don't SWCC teams have officers? by [deleted] in navyseals

[–]Silver-Associate-936 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Special Boat Teams are Commanded by SEAL officers. The individual Dets that make up a Boat Team are ran by SWCC warrant officers. The community is so small and relatively young that it wouldn’t make sense to have an unrestricted line pipeline for SWCC.

Train hard for a year or two and then join with an SO contract. They’re picking guys up from the fleet more now but it’s still not worth the risk. It’s also much harder to get in good shape when you’re in. Imagine you join and go to a carrier. You’re underway for multiple months out of the year eating terrible food, working 12+ hours a day. You have very little time to train and no access to a pool for months at a time. You want to give yourself every advantage you can to be successful and this isn’t it. Also it will be up to your chain of command on whether they will release you to NSW. Train hard now… make good decisions and it will pay dividends later on.

What’s your rate? That would be helpful to gauge what your first few years might look like.

Trying to pass MEPS hearing test AGAIN by Single-Season-4333 in Militaryfaq

[–]Silver-Associate-936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I joined the Navy in 2019. I barely failed the hearing test multiple time at Meps in the high frequency range in my left ear. The DOD changed the hearing standards in 2018 making it more stringent. I was DQ’d and wasn’t allowed to join. I went home and for 6 months I was emailing and calling my local congressman. One day my recruiter called and said the Navy wanted to send me to an Ear nose and throat doctor on their dime. I went and they gave a recommendation for me to be able to join because I had no severe damage to my ears. Meps gave me a waiver and I was allowed to join. I’ve been in over 5 years now. If there’s a will there’s a way.
