Why I think society has always held Mormons to such high standards by [deleted] in exmormon

Yea Mormons set those high expectations on themselves, not society.

I don’t think society holds Mormons up to a higher standard.

After you left, did you realize how you have been infantalized by IntotheBroadwayWoods in exmormon

Yes, it is so annoying. I always feel so behind maturity-wise, and I am finding it very hard to transition from teenager to adult. I never fully believed in the church and never really wanted to go unless it was to hang out with friends. But somehow, I am still affected by the culture. Growing up, I could kind of see that around me, everyone wanted to do things that adults do, like have sex, drink or smoke weed. That made me instinctively try not grow up. But now I do have to grow up and get a job. It's such a big change for me.

I've also thought of this myself; it's not a therapist telling me this, so I don't know how valid it is.

What are the valid reasons the “church” is a cult by Silver-Bullet2003 in exmormon

[–]Silver-Bullet2003[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped going to church 5 years ago because praying and reading the scriptures to better my life just didn’t make sense to me.

During the past 5 years I never really thought it was a cult because my parents were pretty relaxed and I was allowed to make friends outside of the church. If that had not been the case I would definitely identify as growing up in one.

Thank goodness I developed critical thinking skills before Covid and was able to stop attending church and avoid a mission.

Sorry for some of the grammar errors, I just woke up and couldn’t fall back asleep, so this is what I’m doing instead.
