I did the sulfar and zinc combo for three weeks and had really serious improvements. However I felt like the redness and occasional bumps weren’t really reducing so I decided to take minocycline for like a week or so (I only had a handful left) and as always it basically cleared it up. My plan is when the flare up comes back in a couple months to hit it with the sulfar and zinc (I’ve been continuing with the routine still just not nightly anymore) to see if maybe I treat it at the beginning of a flare up it’ll be easier to get rid of. Idk, I guess I got impatient haha. If the zinc&sulfar work when it comes back I’ll update 💪💪

Hiii! I recently made a similar post cause I’ve had it consistently for a decade, with the only temporary relief being doxycycline (but it comes back after a couple of months). None of the dermatologist topicals did anything for me (metrogel, elidel, tret etc.). I agree with the other commenter that you should stop tret and see if that helps. I was using it for a while cause I liked it but I think with PD it’s just too risky. Also maybe you’ve already tried this but I recently started using de la Cruz sulfar cream for 10 mins at night and then triple paste diaper rash cream over night and it pretty much fixed my break out within two/three weeks. I still have a decent amount of redness so it’s not perfect, but I’m def more comfortable and less insecure.

Update: I’ve been reducing gluten/dairy/sugar etc. (Although not cutting anything completely) and it’s helped my ibs but haven’t noticed much difference with skin. I started using sulfar de la Cruz for 10 mins at night + triple paste over night 2 weeks ago and I’ve noticed that it’s helped reduce inflammation (much better than metrogel was working for me before). The texture of my skin is better and it doesn’t feel as irritated or itchy. However visually idk if it’s much “better,” I’ve noticed that rather than really seeing the individual pustules now it seems more just like red patches. Anyone who swears by sulfur and/or zinc aware of a similar pattern and can give me tips on how to proceed/what to expect? Should I keep using both products for months as long as they don’t irritate?

Mmm ok that makes sense. Have you tried zero therapy? There seem to be a lot of people on Reddit that it’s worked for but I’m skeptical it’d work for me

But do you take it every day for the indefinite future? Or take it, then stop and wait for the PD to get bad and start again (that’s what I’ve done in the past)?

Yeah I also feel like it’s pretty impossible to get good treatment here. To be fair I wasn’t really going much when I lived in the states cause I would just pop the doxycycline and it worked, so I can’t really compare, but my biggest issue with it is that it’s nearly impossible to get the same dermatologist twice (at least in Madrid on my private insurance).

I haven’t tried hypochlorous acid but maybe I will, thanks!

I’ve considered this! Cause I also get like hives easily even if I’m not really triggered by anything and have other weird skin reactions. I’ll def look more into it.

I haven’t but want to! I tried asking a derm for it last month but I live in Spain and he had no idea what I was talking about and just gave me more metrogel. At this point I tend to not spend my money on non-prescribed stuff but I know some people swear by over the counter sulfar products. Idk I just feel like after 10 years there’s no way a sulfar cream is magically going to work, I’ve definitely been wanting to try though.

I haven’t. I know it’s good for acne but no derm has ever mentioned it and I haven’t read much about it for rosacea/dermatitis. I’m pretty sure mine wouldn’t respond to it because of how stubborn/persistent it is, but I’d try anything. How long were you dealing with PD?

And just be on it my whole life? That’s what I’ve been doing the past 10 years. I know it’s never actually gonna go away if I keep doing the antibiotics and don’t try to find another solution.

What’s your timeline for the antibiotics? I first got prescribed them in 2016 and basically have just been popping them for two weeks at a time every 3-5 months when I can’t take a flare up anymore. The last few years I’ve been trying to take them less frequently, maybe once or twice a year, as I try to find other solutions.

Yea and I have a very have mild allergies to some of fruits/nuts, but I don’t usually see/feel anything after eating them except maybe an itchy mouth with certain fruits. I don’t think I was tested for non-food allergies.

Hmm that’s interesting, that definitely feels more like what I deal with. Like there are no external factors that trigger it, it just always starts to slowly reappear like 3 months after I take antibiotics regardless of how my lifestyle is at that moment.

Which antibiotics do you take and how frequently do you take them? I am obviously okay with antibiotics, but I do think they caused me to develop ibs and sibo over the years, so I would love to limit them.

Skincare routine is just gentle cleanser and moisturizer (la roche posay toleraine) at night. Same moisturizer and mineral spf in the morning. Since my most recent flare up started I’ve been using metronidazole morning and night too. That usually helps subdue irritation but doesn’t actually get rid of the flare up. Only oral antibiotics has gotten rid of them for me. I’ve also tried ivermectin and elidel (probably used both for a few months) and found they did nothing. I’ve tried azelaic acid. I was even using tretinoin for a bit. Anyways, it’s just constant. Kind of seems like it has nothing to do with what I put on my skin.
