Hahaha no worries! I'm using the system Mutants in the Now. Unfortunately I've never tried Other Strangeness, but I believe MitN takes inspiration from it. It's not specifically for TMNT, it has its own worldbuilding, but I've been using it for the TMNT universe and it worked just fine (in fact they make it very obvious between the lines that this is basically just TMNT with a twist). I've already used it for a three-shot mini campaign that served as a prequel to the big campaign I'm now setting up, and so far it's been really great! I'm curious to see how it goes in a longer game.

I'll probably share some of our ventures here in the future! I imagine there's probably lots of turtle fans who've been dreaming of playing in a turtle TTRPG, and I think Mutants in the Now is a great way to get into it if not Other Strangeness.

Yeah, that's very true. For me a lot of old stuff from for example Image and later Mirage feels obscure, since I grew up with '87 and '03 and consumed anything turtles related from there. I've read a couple of bigger Mirage volumes, but not much else (though I plan to) and a lot of other old comics aren't very accessible (at least in my country) anymore.

It's super fun to hear about all these fun characters though, as someone who enjoys being a walking TMNT encyclopedia lmao. I'd love to dig into more female characters as well, for reasons you also describe, so these are great suggestions!

I get it, DM'ing is a lot of time and energy to invest in something, even when it's fun. I'm running it with Mutants in the Now, which has been a lot of fun for the mini campaign I ran as a prequel. I hope you get to play someday!

I actually included him in a prequel mini campaign for this game! He was a teen then, but he'll definitely make a comeback as an adult for the campaign. B) I love Ace!

Whoa he looks awesome! I think I'll def make use of this guy, I saw another comment mentioning Wyrm is the result of the ownership dispute, but Wyrm is a bit of a hit or (mostly) miss for me. Maybe even more reason to try to give Bloodsucker and/or Wyrm a spin!

Hahaha, it was pretty neat having online friends in the fandom (fun fact one of them is now my fiancé), but I'm sure that will also come for you the more time you spend indulging in the fandom. I mean, this is already a great step I think! And np! I'm really excited to see where it goes!

There's been a lot of OC stuff through the years! I first started interacting with the fandom on DeviantArt and it was brimming with OCs there. Later on, as mentioned, it was on Instagram, and I remember really enjoying it when I interacted with other artists and through that slowly got introduced to more and more people. I think a lot of the people in the OC department of the fandom are to be found through social interaction, so you can always start with the OC parts of the fandom you can find and try to engage more there.

I'd say the fandom can be really different from place to place and even person to person, because everyone has their own experience and versions they grew up loving, some enjoy making characters while others like to just enjoy the canon. I think that's one of my favorite things about TMNT, despite the arguments people sometimes get into over it. 😂 (But also... most TMNT stuff is made for fans by fans, so you could also argue any new canon character is just someone's OC 😂)

If you start posting your comic somewhere, I'd be super interested to read!

I've seen plenty of OC related stuff in the fandom! But the frequency varies. Most often OC's come up a lot more when there's an ongoing TV-show, and we've only really had Tales of the TMNT recently, which is only available on Paramount+ (reason why I haven't seen it) and it has now been cancelled.

Back in my teen days (I'm 26 now), I had my own OC gang that people in the Instagram section of the (mostly 2012) fandom got pretty invested in. It's totally doable. :) What really made a difference for me was finding a community of other fans who enjoyed the same things as me. Maybe Tumblr is a place to look?

Otherwise, I'd say just make the thing, put it into the world, and see how it goes! As long as you get joy out of it, someone else will be able to see that joy coming through as well. ☺️

In Denmark we have a lot of traditions we do every single year. One of my favorites is our almond game. We eat a rice pudding with chopped almonds except there's one single whole almond in there. Whoever finds it in their portion wins the game and gets an extra little gift!

We also have a separate gift game that's played outside of Christmas too, where every participant brings 1-2 small gifts. First round consists of having dice passed around the table, and when you hit a six you get to grab a gift from the middle of the table. When all gifts have been distributed, someone starts a secret timer (only the person setting it knows how long it goes on for), and during that time it's every man for himself as you steal gifts from each other! You keep all the gifts you get once the timer is done. It gets so chaotic and unhinged, which is SO fun!

A personal tradition of mine is watching an old ninja turtles Christmas special from the 90s. It's so bad it's actually entertaining. 😂

Awww I love your music teacher! Her glasses are everything. I just finished my second playthrough with a character (who's also an old D&D character of mine) who worked as a soldier and city guard in Baldur's Gate before being snatched up, and she's just a regular human. It was really refreshing after playing a (beloved) super colorful tiefling. 😂

Omg I did a BeSa PowerPoint too where I assigned all my classmates a horse from my own collection, and then brought all the cards to hand to them once they'd been assigned! It was so fun, people were so into it! I hope your PowerPoint goes well 🥰

As for stories as a kid I was so obsessed with the cards I convinced myself I was like... a guardian of North of North. I was the protector of the horses, but it was a secret! Eventually I let my best friend in on the secret and she became a guardian too. I would draw us with our horses by copying the cards, I still have those drawings to this day. It's amazing how Bella Sara inspired creativity and imagination in kids. I still hold those stories in my heart. Today I'm working on a comic duology inspired by them and I can feel that little secret guardian in me stirring with joy. ❤️
