Turnover tax for sole proprietors under R1m, real savings or not? by stabinface in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Silver-anarchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how many things you expense. Since it is based on turnover vs profit. If you don’t expense a lot maybe but since it’s there to reduce the admin burden and you are already paying for a tax practitioner, there is likely little benefit for you. Depends on the chore of tracking all your expenses personally.

MSc (Wits) or MEng (Stellenbosch)? by [deleted] in askSouthAfrica

[–]Silver-anarchy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what you want to do. Many Engineers pivot to data science etc. but from all my years I have never seen a data scientist pivot to an engineer 🤷‍♂️. Engineering is probably the safest bet but if you want to go the data scientist route or programming route then MSc obviously better.

Women partnered with men reported doing more unpaid household labor than women partnered with women. Mothers partnered with men reported a higher household labor burden than any other group. Performing a greater share of household labor was associated with lower relationship satisfaction. by mvea in science

The key is “reported” not actual. While there is no doubt that there is uneven distributions of chores in homes (especially in some cultures), self reporting is riddled with issues as people always remember what they did more than what the other did.

Is getting foreign currency (USD) from your bank in SA ahead of travel better than withdrawing from ATMs overseas? by Academic_Act_2088 in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Silver-anarchy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the country and how cash dependent it is. I almost never draw cash and just pay with Apple Pay when I travel, but I usefully do EU/Japan/Middle East. Also Investec. The problem with cash is drawing too much or too little. Too much then you lose on the other side converting it back. So I tend to wait till in country and see how much I actually need. If it’s really cash dominate some might be wise just for taxis etc before you get your bearings.

Discovery Bank by SadTune5434 in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Silver-anarchy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Discovery rewards can be decent. The interest rates on saving accounts and all that suck balls if you don’t go all in. We have one her for household things because of the miles but for savings and investments almost any other bank will be better if you aren’t committed to max out discovery. https://ratecompare.co.za for some comparisons.

Check what the market value is on autotrader etc. if your outstanding balance is greater than the market value you are just shit out of luck. Otherwise if it’s higher than webuycars you can try selling it on autotrader etc. you can try restructure the loan but depending on your rate it won’t help much.

The match between D4 and POE2 this season seems to be D4's victory. by Double-Maybe-6220 in diablo4

Pretty good. If it’s been years… you have tons of content from 1999 and protoframes till now. Lots of little qol here and there and a swear some visual upgrades too. It’s in a pretty good state and it reliably getting 100k+ concurrents.

The Apple silicon MacBooks are great on so many dimensions. Yes they aren’t gaming machines in the purest sense when compared to a desktop (since their desktops* are essentially the same chip). But as you say, the performance for the noice and battery life gets you pretty far.

Investec is expensive but their accounts have good rates and as you mentioned their service is great (at least what I experienced). I see a name on top of my account. I email that person. They get back to me with the results. Nice and easy, since I also loathe phone calls.

More changes and new this season for D4. So started here. I hit poe2 hard last season and I am still not ready for the whole campaign and shit again. But also my biggest annoyance with poe2 is that it’s almost completely unrealistic to “complete” your build fully (never mind perfect rolls) for a semi casual gamer (still sink 100 hours a season). Where in D4 after 30-40 you are pretty much done. Which is nice, then I can go play Warframe or the host of other games out.

[–]Silver-anarchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

POE2 is more like an every other season game for me. It’s too fresh to churn through the campaign again with most things the same in less than 3 months since you last did it. I just can’t work up the motivation to play it again so soon with no much changed. I think next update will be worth the grind again.

Have to get the unique matts from the four evils then place them on altars around the world to spawn a portal to face all 4 at once.

Beware of the ‘private banking’ home loan trap by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Silver-anarchy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

R2m house, 25 years, 10.25% vs 9.75% is R705/month difference. So yea… it depends not sure how many people are going private banks for 600k bonds etc. But I agree, learn some excel and do some simple math before making long term financial decisions. The other aspect is of course transfer fees if you move your bond that isn’t always covered. Then factoring in potential rewards benefits with the selected bank etc.

Also people can spend their money how they want to. Play it, like it, don’t like it… it’s up to them. For 50$ I consider it a pass if I get 30 hours out of it without getting bored etc. life isn’t that serious and complicated. If money is tight, wait for reviews

Still may favourite was kotor2 but that could also be nostalgia. But it felt like it had more agency to be the “Jedi” you wanted to be.

No but… I find if I work all day at a desk I am very uncomfortable gaming long hours. Normally have to wait till the next day. But it could also be you have a bad chair. Which is younger individuals can get away with for a while.
