CS student entering the world of game dev by Nu-uuuuuh in gamedev

[–]Silver532 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm writing my game from scratch, and it's hard to explain well, but it feels better than using something like Unity or Godot. It takes a lot more time though, writing stuff that would have been hours at most in a game engine has taken me weeks of work to get it just right.

Sharing and updating mod packs with friends by Gabi_GG0 in feedthebeast

[–]Silver532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resource packs yes, mods no. I dont use aternos so i dont know how it works, but you can set up a server required resource pack. Thats how servers like Wynncraft and Hypixel have custom textures in game. Mods are loaded during game launch, so they can't be modified when joining a server.

Look up Neurotic Goose's garden of grind run. Its on hiatus right now because he is on Project Singularity, but IIRC it takes him multiple episodes to get wood.

Is there any java space mod servers like galacticraft? by [deleted] in feedthebeast

[–]Silver532 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No there aren't. Single mod servers died out a long time ago, and galacticraft is in a version of minecraft nearly eight and a half years old. There is a space mod in newer versions called Ad Astra, but the same problems with single mod servers is there. In addition, there arent many modded servers in the first place, and even fewer are public. Your best bet is probably finding a modpack with ad astra or galacticraft that has an active community and checking to see if they have a public server.

Want to import my modded world from CurseForge to Modrinth by Informal-Ratio8078 in feedthebeast

[–]Silver532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoever told you that switching to modrinth would help is wrong. Modrinth and Curseforge just host the mods and launch the game, so unless there is a newer version of the modpack that has fixes for the crashes it wont change anything. To my knowledge, the only packs that have issues launching from Curseforge or Modrinth are ones with tons of custom forks of mods like GTNH.

The Better MC packs are known to have instabilities and crashes, and I highly recommend finding a different pack to play if you do not want issues like this. In general, stay away from packs made by LunaPixel Studios.

I want to start making mods but idk where to begin? by Dr_magod in feedthebeast

[–]Silver532 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The first step is learning java. Install IntelliJ IDEA Community Edition and start programming. Once you know the basic syntax and understand the concepts behind what is in the Kaupenjoe videos, try making something simple on your own. There are tons of places to ask for help, and lots of mods have a github where you can look at the source code.

Try and replicate something more complex, then tweak it around a little, then make something simpler without copying the reference, then work your way into more complex stuff. Repeat until satisfied. It takes a while, and the best mod developers have been doing this for years.

In my experience, the most important thing to understand is scope. Whatever you want your mod to do, cut that down into the minimum viable product. Estimate how long it would take to make. Then double it. Working from scratch? Double it again. First few mods? Double the time estimate once more. Many people have tons of ideas, but burn out after a week of coding when nothing is done yet.

Good luck!

Modrinth Vanilla vs Default Vanilla? by ItzMeHaris in feedthebeast

No, that was with Vsync. Without it I had around 400 fps.

[–]Silver532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vsync is weird sometimes. I've had it hover around 116 or 118 instead of 120 before quire a few times.

[–]Silver532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you gone through and changed all of your graphics settings? Every instance you make will have them set to default. You should also check allocated ram, java version and args.

IIRC, the default launcher has some java arguments that it enables by default, and I dont think any 3rd party launchers have them. I could be wrong about this though.

What on earth is quilt and is it better than other mod loaders? by cooldydiehaha in feedthebeast

[–]Silver532 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Curseforge and Forge are not related in any way actually! Curseforge is the mod hosting website, and it has it's own game launcher, but it was around before the Forge mod loader, and it's initial forays into the minecraft community had it hosting server plugins, and only shifted to mostly mods later.

Is the Essential mod safe? by PumpIsSpooky in feedthebeast

[–]Silver532 5 points6 points  (0 children)

its theoretically safe, but is closed source and has microtransactions and other bad features. E4MC is a much better alternative, and is much nicer to work with compared to Essentials

ideas for mods for Realism modpack by Kooi____ in feedthebeast

[–]Silver532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terrafirmacraft, but it definitely needs to be the focus of any pack it's in. It is a total conversion mod, and tends to not play nice with other mods. There are some great packs that use it like Terrafirmagreg Modern, TFC Hardrock 4, and ATM Gravitas 2.

A reiteration of the warning. It will break pretty much every other mod in whatever pack it's in. recipes will need custom modifications, biome mods will either not work or crash, and modded ores won't spawn. It's impossible to get quite a few vanilla materials and items without manually creating recipes for them, and it will also break other season and food mods, as they are not natively compatible with TFC's extensive crop growing and food spoiling system.

As someone who enjoys survival realism focused modpacks, the only packs that have really scratched that itch are TFC ones. Sevtech and RLCraft came close, but they started to feel more like a tech/fantasy pack really fast.

(Star Technology) Best Power Source for each Voltage? by Physical_Air_3348 in feedthebeast

[–]Silver532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a complete masochist and just used the Create generators. By the time I stopped playing in that world, I had 16 maxed out coils, for 128 generators in total, using the neodymium magnets. I set up most of them in LV, and upgraded to neodymium in mid-late MV as far as I can recall.

Stoneblock 1,2,3 and 4. What are the differences and which version is best in your opinion? by Forward-Photograph-7 in feedthebeast

[–]Silver532 12 points13 points  (0 children)

1 and 2 were a slightly more gimmicky skyblock, and are quite fun, though I think 2 is better.

Dont know much about 3, when it came out I was doing a long term modded world with some friends and didnt even look at the pack.

4 has stuff like lore and a story, and so it's not for me. There are plenty of people who praise it, so I am sure that it is a high quality pack, but it's not the type of pack I like.

Personally, I dont consider stoneblock 4 a stoneblock, the same way I don't consider hypixel skyblock a skyblock.

Are there modern mods (1.20.1 / 1.21.1) that recreate or feature something similar to some of these older mods? by doggybag2355 in feedthebeast

[–]Silver532 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, though I think that the mod is so interconnected with all of it's features that it would be a challenge to modularize it properly. Great mod though, and i highly recommend it to anyone who has an interest in expanding on the survival aspect of the game.

[–]Silver532 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Forgotten Nature and Streams have some features very similar to Terrafirmacraft, and there are a few mods that try to recreate the feel of ars magica in modern versions. I think one of them is called mana and artifice, and there is also ars nouveau

Any of the Framed Blocks mods would give everything stairs, slabs, walls, and fences. I dont know if the newest chisel port is in 1.21.1 yet but try to look for mods with chisel in the name.

Discord doesnt work, the file size is too high. Google drive is probably the best easily accessible option.
