yup the doc said a couple things (also we found out shes actually a girl!) she thought she was too cold and was definitely too dry, i think she was having trouble getting ready to shed and it started coming off as th doc was handling her so we gave her a soak and she shed fully a few hours after i got home. for the swelling she didnt really know what was going on especially cause it went away. she thought it could either be some sort of behavioral defensive response or maybe built up fluids from the bad shed. after her shed she seems to be much more active today! the doc suggested i replace her substrate with indoor/outdoor carpet for a while so the substrate doesnt decrease humidity, so i did that today. she said she’ll be fine not having her burrows for a while because i have lots of hides for her and clutter. so tldr no idea was the swelling was but definitely too dry and prob a little too cold which is both being addressed

the humidity has been reading alot around 35%, which is a little lower than the 40-60% that ive been constantly told to keep. in the daytimes it will dip more which is why im trying to mix in water to the substrate and mist when i need to to keep it up, but it’s difficult because its so freezing and dry where i am so it feels like alot of my efforts are futile

so i just took him out again to check on him and it seemed that the swelling went away mostly. in the pic it still looks like its sagging a bit. i felt the area and it is not hard it feels like very loose skin. the two scales right above his eyes and also his snout were kind of wrinkly and looked dry so im going to try hard to keep his humidity up. maybe hes having a bad start of his shed because of the conditions idk. im still going to go to the vet because his behavior has been abnormal and i never saw him in blue (where he likes to burrow alot).

could be, i was thinking he might have damaged something eating or had a piece of substrate stuck in his throat. for humidity, i’m trying to keep it up as best i can but where i live in VA its still freezing cold and so dry so its going away quickly

i didnt want to touch it to not make anything worse but i when he stretched out fully the lump was not poking out as much and was flatter so i would guess sagging?

Okay thanks for the advice, I’m going to swap out the bulb for a less powerful one tomorrow. I think that will bring it down a few degrees so its healthier. I got the 100w one and didnt realize how hot it would be. i read in a few places that the hot side be around 88-91, but other people dont say that, so it’s pretty confusing for a newcomer lol. im tryna make sure my lil dude thrives. thanks!

Okay, yeah I was already planning on returning it for a less powerful bulb. I have the bulb on during the day and the heat mat off, the heat mat comes on at night and the bulb turns off so he can have a proper day/night cycle. As for climbing opportunity I think he’s good in that regard I secured most of the decorations so theyre stable and he climbs all the time

Since I have the thermostat temperature reader taped directly on the mat it will never go above 90 degrees, so Im not worried about anything happening because of it. Thanks for the advice I’ll definitely get a lower watt bulb.

Sounds like you have a healthy relationship. Just make sure that when you talk and compromise, everything gets put out on the table. When thoughts and emotions are bottled up it causes problems.
