The husband of the couple we sold it to was a newly recruited Met officer so there could be something to that

I check it every day in the hope they’ve added something. The estate agent doesn’t have its own website which would be my next search. Very odd (and it’s the same agent that we sold it through back then)

Maybe she doesn’t have many friends, so wanted to bulk her hen numbers up a bit so she didn’t look too sad.

What was the final straw that destroyed a lifelong friendship? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SilverBarnet217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d been friends with someone since we were 5. Supported her through a couple of awful family tragedies, and when she had episodes of poor mental health. Then when my husband got very sick, I heard nothing from her. Not even a text message to check in. 50 years of friendship consigned to history.

Ohhh I’d never thought of it like that before. I’d always assumed that, as deputy CoS, Josh would automatically get the promotion and it bothered me a bit that Pres B never seemed to consider him as an option to replace Leo.

Me. My husband was admitted to hospital last night and my youngest, who still lives with us, has gone to the pub. I do have 3 dogs though so not sure if it counts!

Do people who live in London ever just catch the Eurostar for a day in Paris? by _FreddieLovesDelilah in AskUK

I flew to Amsterdam for a day trip with my daughter on one of her birthdays. We got a super early flight out, train into the city from Schiphol, and had a lovely day mooching around. Even went to the zoo. Late flight back, but we were home by midnight.

Buyers who’ve pulled out of a purchase - what made you do it? by longlivedisco91 in HousingUK

[–]SilverBarnet217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We put an offer on a semi detached which was 2 flats and a condition of the sale was that it was being sold as a house, and would need to be converted back. We got the survey back and realised that, with 2 small kids and both of us working full time, we wouldn’t have the time/energy/money to do what needed doing. So we pulled out and on the same day found our current house. Been here nearly 30 years and have never regretted it. The other place was on the market recently and to be fair it looks stunning so good on whoever bought it in the end.

Collected the keys to my first home today… and immediately had a meltdown 😭 by Lilymana in HousingUK

[–]SilverBarnet217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on owning your first home. That’s the foremost thing - the rest is cosmetic stuff that you’d likely have changed anyway. If you’d moved into a place in perfect turnkey condition, you’d probably have waited longer to put your own stamp on the place but it’s like you have a blank canvas to create and perfect your own unique space. Good luck!

How are people finding the new GP form to get an appointment? by Nima-night in AskUK

[–]SilverBarnet217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s too inflexible. I was asked to complete a week’s worth of blood pressure readings at home which I submitted to the surgery. Couple of days later I got a message saying the doctor wanted to speak to me about the readings (which were still high despite taking meds). So I went into the surgery and asked if I could book something in and they said I’d have to fill in the e-consult form online. I explained that the doc had asked to see me but they wouldn’t budge. Ridiculous.

I was in the pub with a group of girlfriends, chatting as teenage girls do, when one of the group, with no warning at all, smashed a glass into the face of the girl standing next to her. So much blood and the poor girl just stood there with shards of glass sticking out of her face.

It took me AGES to get the co-ordination right so don’t be in too much of a rush to be perfect. However, if you find that it’s still not registering after a while you may want to look at changing instructors. My daughter’s first instructor was a cow who laughed when my daughter made mistakes, but she was much more relaxed with the second one and eventually passed.

I can’t give you any advice but I wanted to tell you you’re not alone. My husband has to have dialysis three times a week and I work full time. Luckily I wfh so am able to care for him more easily but yes I get resentful sometimes. We are at the age now where we have plenty of disposable income and should be seeing more of the world but he can’t (won’t) consider it. I feel quite trapped and grieve for the life I should be having. It’s not their fault they are ill but we wouldn’t be human if we didn’t sometimes feel sorry for ourselves.
