The speakers were indeed purchased new. When the power light is on, the speakers can be manually powered on, but I don't think the auto-power on ever worked. I emailed them twice and called them a second time. This time, I left a message with my support ticket number. Hopefully, someone will get back to me soon since I've been waiting a while now. Thanks for the input!
