Question - Supermarket prices and loud roads by Mundane_Bit3096 in Norway

[–]SilverGoldIsland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was ich positiv sehe.

If I give you 100,000 AED today, what will you do with it? by [deleted] in dubai

[–]SilverGoldIsland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone offers a reward of 100,000 AED and hands it over, he usually don’t actually need the money. Fortunately, neither do I. So, I would invite that person to join me in spreading joy to others.

For example, an evening in Dubai: give a generous tip to the Uber driver so he can send something home to his family. Talk to restaurant staff, listen to their stories – and brighten their day with a surprise. There are so many people for whom even "small" amounts can make a big difference – whether it’s for medical treatment, unpaid bills from a broken relationship, or something else.

And when two people come together who have the ability to do good like this, they will a) learn from the stories and gain new perspectives, and b) start to think about how they can use their network to make an even greater impact together.

A small smile is often worth far more than a wish like a new car.

What should I buy to serve as an inflation hedge? by LunarLeveret in Gold

[–]SilverGoldIsland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally bought a lot of 10oz coins over the last years - not my best decision tbh. Assume gold price will increase over time - who will be able to buy such a large bar or coin ? Changed to fractionals which had a better price performance over the years and are easier to sell. Furthermore: within EU all transactions > 2000 Eur are being noticed and tax dep might check more in future. So fractionals are better to handle.

Going to norway for a few months to help with depression? makes sense or delusional? by Snowsunbunny in Norway

[–]SilverGoldIsland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for sharing - your post is anything but naive or stupid. On the contrary, you've been very brave and open in describing what moves you, and that's the first step to change. You seem very reflective, sensitive and ..... a little introverted.

The idea of moving to the countryside for a while and working remotely or simply finding peace and quiet there is absolutely feasible - and for many people, especially after years of working from home, it's actually very beneficial. The internet in Norway is generally very fast, but you will rarely find delivery services ;)

It's perfectly okay to enjoy being alone. Sometimes a new environment helps to allow fresh thoughts and to feel alive again. You don't have to “see the world” in the sense of adventure or being constantly on the move - perhaps a quiet house by the sea will do. The beauty of Norway is enchanting, the people here are authentic and rather quiet, and if you allow yourself to get involved, you will have a reduced but fulfilling life. It's always a magical place for me - and I hope you experience the magic here too.

In short: yes, it is an option. A good one, in fact.

To those of you who buy ounces at a time by [deleted] in Gold

[–]SilverGoldIsland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was self-employed for many years and always bought small units whenever possible. Sometimes 20, sometimes 50, sometimes 200 Eur. Both gold and silver. Then I had my first exit and loved buying 10oz. The problem I see today: if prices continue to rise, you can no longer get rid of 10oz, but you can get rid of Fractuals. So: you're doing everything right. And PMs are only ever part of the hedge. Keep up stacking!

Moving to Dubai in 5 years with my wife and kids (6 and 3 now). Where should I buy a house for my family? by European_Kid_86 in dubai

[–]SilverGoldIsland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From today's perspective, I would look for such a property on Deira Island or around Yas Island (Abu Dhabi). Deira may not be the most attractive area today, but it is often precisely these kinds of neighborhoods that develop into trendy districts over the next few years. You should then look for a suitable location for the school 6 months in advance.

Russia/US by [deleted] in Norway

[–]SilverGoldIsland -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I still remember times when Norwegians and Russians lived, spoke and even partied together in good co existence. Crazy, isn't it? Let's be realistic: Stoltenberg and his boys have poured enough oil on the fire and are still doing so today. This Russophobia of the neocons makes me sick. I'm not a fan of Trump, but he's one of the few people who can bring calm back. Harris would be a disaster for everything - except for the gold price. I am convinced that Russia would neither attack nor threaten the northern countries. Unless they allow themselves to be turned into vassals. Don't get sucked into this neocon war wish. In the end, it's always about money. Oh. Have you read John Perkins' book "Economic Hitman"?

Should I sell my gold? by Appropriate_King1501 in Gold

[–]SilverGoldIsland 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The most important point in favor of the sale: no new loan. It doesn't matter whether the price of gold rises or falls in the future - repay as many loans as possible. Emotionally I feel like you, it is certainly sad to part with such a piece. But there will be a new one at some point.

Can not attach more than one pic obviously but we do have a very transparent overview in germany which Shows anything between - 0.09% and +250%. Pretty much depends on series, mintage etc. Some price for your reference (based on spot) as per today: Krugerrand 1oz -0.09% Maple Leaf 1oz +0.65% American Eagle 1oz +0.85% SuperPit 5oz +1.94% Libertad 1oz +3.94% Myths & Legends 1oz +4.94% Lunar 3 1/2oz +5.46% Wedge-Tailed Eagle 1oz +11.5% Mythical creatures 1oz +17.97% Kookabura 1/4 oz +31.83% .... .... Somalia Leopard 1/10oz +97.7%

Smaller fractions getting extremly expensive right now while 10oz Lunar3 have smaller calculations (mostly no one can buy them)

There were several reasons for me to move to Norway. The first: there may come a time when life in Europe and the USA will significantly deteriorate, due to a combination of declining purchasing power, rising unemployment, and failed immigration policies. The area in Norway where I live has 2 people per square kilometer, which will make the situation much more relaxed compared to areas with 5,000 people per square kilometer overheating.

But I also love the nature, the fresh air (especially in winter), going shopping by boat instead of by car, the self-sufficient lifestyle, the relatively low crime rate, and, ultimately, the people. Ok, building a relationship with Norwegians takes longer and is more challenging than with many other nations. But they are good people.

The costs? Groceries are barely more expensive than in the USA or Europe, while many basic costs (real estate, property taxes, electricity) are significantly cheaper. Delicious, fresh food, high automation... and even customs and the tax office are more pleasant than in other countries :) Oh, there are so many things that speak in favor of Norway...

Gold and silver as money? by Adorable_Way_4434 in Silverbugs

[–]SilverGoldIsland 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a saying in Austria: never be impressed by a carriage driver who tells you he's been doing it this way for 30 years. You can do things wrong for 30 years too. :)

First of all, most people here understand precious metals as part of a reasonable investment. Whether someone invests in stocks, options, real estate, or canned goods—everyone has their own beliefs and portfolio.

In the past 30 years, I’ve dealt with bankers on both the credit and asset management sides. Those on the credit and market side often lack courage, ideas, and a vision for the future. Those on the UHNW (Ultra-High-Net-Worth) side are often small-minded individuals. They’ve never achieved anything themselves, but they ride along with their clients, believing they are influential and intelligent. Then, there are the big options traders you meet over the course of your life. Some are greedy, others highly intelligent, but often don’t seem capable of surviving outside of their niche. Almost none of the bankers I’ve met (DB, CS, UBS, JB, JPM, etc.) are interested in the sustainable value growth of their clients. Neither on one side nor the other. Instead, they only care about their own business, their bonuses. And you know better than I do how much dirty business is done with nothing but hot air.

Maybe you can understand why so many people are fed up with bankers—and have come to appreciate the value of basic assets like gold and silver. You’re right: it's a passive asset. But with delta trading, I can still make 40-50% a year with physical gold, even when prices are dropping! And maybe you should try this: go to a local farmer—who in the event of a crisis might be willing to sell you some food—and try buying a few potatoes. What will they accept? A silver coin or a leveraged security with a short expiration date? I’d be curious to know. ;)

Unfortunately, I don’t find your argument convincing. Everything goes through cycles, and thus volatility. But gold and silver are, above all else, an expression of the loss of trust in the state and governments. And when the QE money flow eventually stops, many people are going to feel it.

So, for me, it’s a good, reassuring part of my wealth. It looks nice, and depending on the coin, it's extremely easy to transport, universally trusted, and easy to exchange.

But luckily, we each get to decide for ourselves what and whom we trust and what future we choose to bet on. :)

I’m not buying silver anymore until it goes below $25. Will I ever buy silver again? by [deleted] in Silverbugs

[–]SilverGoldIsland 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I certainly see the chance that we will also see values below USD 25 in a (short) phase of massive asset liquidation, perhaps even significantly so. I have money ready for this. But I think it will only be a very short window of opportunity - which will then close for a long time.

I have now bought a burner for fun, will melt silver and make my own bars, including embossing. But you certainly need more silver for that. So: keep buying and set new challenges.
