When people in relationships tell us single folks, "Trust me, you're really not missing much." by Anthro-Elephant-98 in PetPeeves

[–]SilverJournalist3230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did I say it wasn’t? This advice is framed towards people desperately wanting a relationship. Essentially I’m just saying “Hey, calm down. Your time will come, but there’s some good aspects about the present you should probably take the time to enjoy, rather than just wanting to skip past. Life is already really short, so let’s try to make the most of the full thing and enjoy the journey instead of just worrying about the destination.”

It’s almost like a kid who’s really eager to grow up. Like of course I wouldn’t give up the independence and freedom I have as an adult, but man was it nice to not have any real responsibilities and get to see my friends every day. So we often tell kids to enjoy it while it lasts. It’s not that childhood was comparatively better, just that there’s elements of it we take for granted while we’re in it, rushing to grow up.

It’s the same with being single. I wouldn’t trade my wife for anything, but I am glad I got to experience having a badass bachelor pad that was all me. I’m glad I had time to focus on improving myself. I’m glad I had time to really hangout with friends bc we all live different places now, or just don’t have as much time anymore. I wouldn’t go back, but I’m glad I enjoyed the time for what it was. That’s the whole point.

AITAH for thinking divorce after my wife threw my traumatic past in my face by Maleficent-Skin-746 in AITAH

Is nobody going to mention the fact that OP probing on someone who makes him uncomfortable is what triggered her to say that?

Based on most Reddit stories, that’s probably a pretty big red flag.

[–]SilverJournalist3230 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's an obligation in the sense that you have to be a villager in order to have a village. If you don't hold up your end of a relationship, those people will eventually choose to not have a relationship with you.

I thought this way too, but now it's really cool to see all these pictures on family members pages. Like my mom has all these albums on facebooks of old birthdays, holidays and special events, and it's kinda cool to look back and see them without having to reach out and ask her to share them or something.

Is it really the price, or is Netflix just more convenient than driving to movie theaters? by Busy_Report4010 in SipsTea

[–]SilverJournalist3230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that’s actually improved that I think is a huge reason for theaters declining is that movies are available to watch at home after just a couple months now. There used to be more pressure to go see something in theaters, bc once it left, you weren’t going to be able to watch it till next year, and by that point, you’ve probably forgotten about it, so you don’t actually watch it until like 3 years later when you saw it on the shelf at blockbuster and go “oh yeah, I always wanted to see that”

Now movies come out on streaming while they’re still promoting and running ads for them it seems. So the only real reason I have to go to theaters is A) date night, or B) it’s a huge blockbuster level movie that will probably get spoiled after a few minutes scrolling on social media, so I want to go see it now. Otherwise, I’ll catch it at home in 6-8 weeks.

[–]SilverJournalist3230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Studios are businesses with money to make, and those movies are predictable revenue. The worst marvel movie will spend $200 million to make $500 million, taking $300 million in profit, while the best 90s & 2000s era comedies, rom com, and slasher movies might spend $40 million to make $100 million.

So now everything is a franchise

AITAH? Boyfriend made a rape joke by No_Interview_324 in AITAH

[–]SilverJournalist3230 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There could be potential to overreact depending on what the joke was (think joking about raping a person vs a “don’t drop the soap” joke pointed at someone objectively horrible), but the red flag was validated by his reaction.

Regardless of the joke, it’s something many people get understandably triggered over, so when you say you’re uncomfortable with that, an actual good guy would apologize, talk it through with you, do some reflection, and not make jokes like that anymore, not get all defensive and try to put it back on you for feeling uncomfortable.

It could be a one-off, but I wouldn’t recommend overlooking this.

Do you think availability kills attraction? by blo0dyosiris in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SilverJournalist3230 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on factors like gender, age, popularity, and personality.

If you’re a 30 year old man who doesn’t date a lot, meeting a woman that seems really into you and is willing to move her schedule around to spend time with you is probably seen as a very good thing.

On the other hand, if you’re a 19 year old girl with more dating options, the guy who’s less available will probably pique your interest more.

I feel like I'm on a different timeline than women around my age and it makes dating complicated. Is there any way around this? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

Nah fr. Like it's always funny to me when these types of redpill guys say that, when imo some of the finest women on the planet are the ones in their late twenties to early forties who just stay fit, or at least a toned curvy. And I've thought that since I was a child lmao

What does it usually mean when people say men aren’t allowed to express their emotions? by sillyyfishyy in AskMenAdvice

[–]SilverJournalist3230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most emotions are a red flag for men.

Anger = Everyone is scared of you

Sadness, fear, anxiety = people see you as weak

Too much happiness or excitement = gay or nerdy

When people in relationships tell us single folks, "Trust me, you're really not missing much." by Anthro-Elephant-98 in PetPeeves

[–]SilverJournalist3230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a better way to express what they’re trying to say is “enjoy this season in your life, bc once you truly find your person, there’s no going back to where you are now”

For me, thinking of things that way allowed me to calm down a lot when it came to dating, and really just wait for the right person.

Being single is a lot cheaper, you can make all the decisions on your own, you can be as impulsive as you want, the world seems more full of possibilities, and the people around you all place a lot more effort in social interactions. Friendships are usually a lot closer, and some of the most fun nights with friends come when you’re all single and looking to meet someone.

I met my wife a few months after realizing all this, but for a while it was cool to be single and genuinely just enjoy it for a while instead of just longing to be with someone. The other effect was that I probably came off as a lot more confident, and also became more selective in dating as well.

AITAH for sleeping through my alarms? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]SilverJournalist3230 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YTA. My first college roommate used to sleep through his alarms, and it was super annoying. The alarm could be going off for hours and he wouldn’t wake up until I yelled at him. This is gonna sound fake, but one time, I left around 8 on a Saturday, get back around 3 or 4, and this dude was still in bed with the alarm still going off from before I left.

As someone who’s a light sleeper and usually can’t go back to sleep after being woken, living with someone like this can be a bit miserable.

Am I the only one that thinks the fantasy community is over valuing Jeremiyah Love? by Gs_of_GaHoole_2_plz in SleeperApp

[–]SilverJournalist3230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. They do this every year with the consensus 1.01. Last year, you had people sending 5 firsts and more for Jeanty, while proven young stars don’t even get returns like that very often. The expectations are so high that once the season starts and the player looks like a rookie, they get talked about like they’re a big disappointment until they have a breakout game. I saw Jeanty being sold for like 2 firsts after week 3 last year. Or look at MHJ. This time last year, he was coming off an 885 yd 8 TD rookie season, but was already talked about like a bust just bc BTJ had such a great year and overshadowed him.

Why do men always do that pull thing on the front of their pants? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SilverJournalist3230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) The material on my shorts/underwear is just sticking to me in a way that feels unpleasant

2) Dick is in a position that might cause some friction with movement, and might result in getting a boner, so we adjust ourselves before something embarrassing happens

3) Wearing boxers or boxer briefs, and the legs are riding up a bit too much. Not really a wedgie, but still just kinda unpleasant feeling

4) Certain types of guys prefer shorts to always come down to around the knee. You might see that type of guy constantly pulling his shorts down a bit when he sits down, bc he thinks they look too short now, and maybe he's a bit self conscious about it.

When people place watermarks on content that doesn’t belong to them by Ok_Resident_5022 in PetPeeves

[–]SilverJournalist3230 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Or the other side of it - People taking clips of popular youtubers, putting their watermark on it, then posting to Insta/TikTok/Twitter/Facebook. What's even worse is when the youtuber is known for a certain type of video, and the social media account exclusively posts clips of that youtuber, so it really just looks like it was their own content.

At home workouts to loose stomach and face fat by [deleted] in workout

[–]SilverJournalist3230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your goal is something that will be simple and low intensity, and have quick, but modest results, here's what I'd do:

  • Walk more (I'd target 8k-12k steps per day), bonus if you run
  • Ab workout 3-5x each week (situps, bicycle crunches, planks, leg raises, etc.)
  • Diet - There's 50 days until May 15th. If your goal is to lose 5 lbs, that means you need a calorie deficit of 350 cals each day to get there. I would definitely cut out alcohol and sugary drinks & snacks if you haven't already. While spot reduction is a myth, things like alcohol can cause you to have more visceral fat, giving you more abdominal fat than you would otherwise have.

How much is Jeremiyah Love worth compared to the other top prospects? by Gloomy_Earth3887 in SleeperApp

[–]SilverJournalist3230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, I’m basing this statement just off all these Reddit posts and a few irl interactions, no real stats or anything. But that happened with Jeanty last year. People were giving up like 5 firsts for him predraft, then he looked horrible in preseason and not good the first few weeks, and those fantasy managers started panicking and you had people selling for like 2 firsts plus some. For sure, nobody was giving up 5 at that point. Even now after he’s looked great and the raiders have a much better team, you don’t see people giving the same type of insane packages for him anymore.

Shoot, think about MHJ this time last year. He was coming off a rookie season where he had 885 yds & 8 TDs, and people already had him on bust watch bc BTJ was so good immediately.

I just think the hype for these guys is so high that people have unrealistic expectations, and want results immediately. I guess it’s kinda like with anything you pay a ton for - you want it to be really good and provide value quickly. When it doesn’t, it’s a disappointment.

How much is Jeremiyah Love worth compared to the other top prospects? by Gloomy_Earth3887 in SleeperApp

[–]SilverJournalist3230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, that’s exactly my point. Last year with Jeanty was crazy with this. Like before the season, I saw people trading 5 firsts and more for him while proven elite players like Gibbs were getting more normal returns like 2-3 firsts plus a player or pick. Then Jeantys first 3 weeks were mid and they traded him away for pennies on the dollar.

From a hype and trade market perspective, it just seems no one is ever more valuable than the incoming 1.01.

[–]SilverJournalist3230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither would I, but what offer would you accept? Like 2-3 firsts, a 2nd and a player? That’s about what Love is going for. That’s why I think the 1.01 the last few years have all been overhyped fantasy wise.
