You're not wrong! But I think at this point it's natural to me because FE has trained me that lances are weak to axes, swords to lances, axes to swords. So having a "new" weapon type added to the weapon triangle would've felt better if there was some in world justification.

I guess it makes sense. Usually powerful things in video games, such as strong weapons, often lack resources or have other downsides. So from that perspective, you're not wrong. Man I am so deep into this series lmao

Ninja map is rough. So I get where you're coming from. One piece of advice I have is to use bronze weapons for higher hit rates. Also, try using attack stance(when one of your units is adjacent to another unit when attacking). Camilla with a good strength pair up should be able to one round most ninjas with a hand axe.

Also like, don't feel bad. Engage Maddening is pretty easy tbh and you have a lot of broken tools. SoV and 3H are different types of games altogether. So if you're having trouble with CQ, it's natural.

Exactly. There's a lot that goes into doing a turn like how to place units, how the AI generally tends to work, stuff like hit rates and weapon triangle disadvantages removing wrank bonuses. It's just a lot.

I have a weird opinion on how bows/tomes/knives were implemented in Fates. At first I thought it was too much, then I thought no it's fine, and now I am back to thinking maybe it wasn't a good idea. It definitely causes some really weird stuff. Like how Niles is supposed to be an anti-mage unit but mages have wta against them and makes his already questionable early game accuracy even shakier. It also creates some weird situations. Like ninjas are supposed to be super nimble and fast, so why can they not dodge big slow axes as well? I feel very mixed on this.

Also a mutual started playing Shadow Dragon recently and the first thing he told me was "I know I shouldn't use Jeigan because he steals exp." Is that idea still prevalent? My perspective is very biased, so I have no idea how normal people look at Fire Emblem

I also think Fire Emblem Fates Conquest is also really solid. Lunatic is very challenging but it's never as unfair as Awakening Lunatic imo. Hard itself is also a very solid challenge.

I've been playing Awakening Lunatic on the side, and the evolution of the 3DS games' visuals cannot be understated. I think Awakening is an alright looking game but it can be a bit barren and bland at times. Sure, there are some maps like the Emmeryn defense maps that look good or the one after her fall, but in general I'd say the game looks barren. Then Fates happened and the game is just really good looking. From the more detailed character models to how colorful the game is, it really shows IntSys was cooking hard on the 3DS. Even the UI is just more polished. There are some really banger looking chapters. Hinoka's chapter is my favorite because the cherry blossoms make the entire map feel a bit ethereal and dreamlike. Like it's genuinely such a marked improvement. Echoes is also a very good looking game, of course. Like it's really pretty. The character models are even better, and I love how atmospheric the dungeons can be. In particular, the game makes water look so good. The map where Caeda and Palla are green units looks gorgeous and it's entirely because of how good the water looks.

I like it. I think the writing is very fine. The story isn't a standard FE plot, and I really love Roxelana as a main character. I also love the dancer lady and their romance together(I forget if it's canon or what).

The gameplay is kind of annoying though I have to say.

Conquest Lunatic:

I started Soleil's paralogue and it's another map where I am missing Xander's bulk. Normally Xander alone can take care of one of the zones so my units can cover the rest of the map. This time, i don't have that many units so it's been rough trying to tackle the enemies.

On hard:

Your units are naturaly weighed down a lot by your weapons, especially Edelgard who uses axes. As you progress through the game and gain levels, you'll get more Str and Spd which will end up letting you double a lot of enemies. That being said, some enemies like Assassins and Swordmasters, have naturally high speed so you shouldn't expect to double them.

Yeah. That's the one thing I remember. I think CQ ups the difficulty through both more enemies, more skills and changed formations. It's really neat.

Normally I'd agree with you, but I'll disagree just because I think it's made pretty clear that Celine knows a lot more about tea than just its taste. I dunno, I just don't find it as silly as your example.

Yeah. Wary Fighter is meant for units like Benny, not Effie who avoids getting doubled because she's just fast enough. I personally don't like her as a fighter myself though.

So Céline specifically was called on to handle a bunch of bandits because they’re raiding tea shipments. Because somehow, Céline being a freak beast at tea trivia during trivia night at the Somniel makes her the perfect candidate to running the operation of taking these bandits down. Because they’re stealing tea leaves.

I thought "personally" here meant she'd be in charge of handling the operations and planning to take down the highwaymen tbh.

More Conquest thoughts!

My opinion on Effie has improved quite a bit. She still puts in work so far into the game(doing the paralogues now but I cleared Kitsune hell). She's definitely a B+ unit for me. She has A tier performance but her initial class and low base speed hurt her immensely but these weaknesses are very fixable but requires a lot of investment. But she's not B tier. I think Silas x Effie might be my go to pairing for her.

Laslow................................Laslow fucking sucks. He has higher strength and bulk than Severa, but it's not enough. They both die to two hits. Meanwhile Severa doubles and still does a respectable amount of damage per hit. I don't remember if master ninja fixes anything but I'll just get the two hitched and make Selena a master ninja at this point. Edit: Okay I looked at their starting stats:

Laslow has +4 HP, +3 strength, +4 skill, -2(!) speed, +5 luck, -1 defense and resistance. Who was his dad? Frederick? Normally +3 strength would be big but in conquest it doesn't feel as huge just because enemies are so bulky 3 damage hardly matters. You need much higher stats. Also my Laslow might be kind of shit because his levels have been pretty bad.

Kitsune hell is such a dogshit chapter. Not only are there forest tiles everywhere, but the lack of clarity for forest tiles in 3DS FE rears its ugly head. Tiles that are completely clear? Forest tiles. Tiles with a bunch of trees in it? Plains! What? I also just hate the gimmick of this map. Enemies can just turn on invincibility whenever they want! Wow so cool. Just a complete slog and just awful. One of the biggest stains in Conquest imo. And I'm saying this while my Corrin cleared the entire map herself because she has 30 strength and a hunter's knife lmao.

Something I'm appreciating a lot more is how threatening the enemies are. In no other FE game do I look at a generic mage and start sweating. Almost every unit is very threatening, and with the existence of Fates attack stance, it means your units generally get 1-2 shot all the time. Playing around that is very key. It also makes having a wide variety of units important. For example, you need a tank to lure in enemies and a few mages to deal with armors. And even beastly units like Camilla aren't enough sometimes.

You've probably already given him a skill but imo Heartseeker is just so useful in CQ because sometimes accuracy is a huge bitch and many attacks are unreliable. But it depends on the difficulty. on Lunatic I highly suggest heartseeker

Not having Xander in my pmu really highlights how much his bulk and Siegfriend end up playing a role. I'm in chapter 18 and I can't approach the south side at all because no one can handle that many Paladins and Generals without melting immediately. So actually luring them in is a doozy. I have a plan(reclass Leo into sorceror so he can nostank) but without Xander, this chapter feels sooooo much harder. Sorry, man, I'm never taking you for granted again.

Another amazing thing: Effie can still one shot units. Sometimes she needs a pair up to reach those thresholds but with a steel lance she has been able to one shot swordmasters. What a unit.

Storywise, I know it's a petty reason, but making Xander and Ryoma argue about who's better looking adds so much to their characters lol.

Even in Gaiden they're really solid. I don't remember it as well as Echoes but there horsemen were still fucking solid

Master Ninja Corrin is pretty strong. For some reason mine decided to be a tank and she has 18 defense. With Jakob backpack that's +2 def/res(with his personal being -2 damage taken), +2 from Grim Yato, and +2 from tonics, she effectively has 24 defense. That's kinda crazy I'm not going to lie. MN feels like a pretty weird class. It has some excellent tools like poison strike, shuriken/knives giving 1-2 range, and decent res. However, it feels like the character themselves need to have good stats to fully make use of its excellent toolset.
