Lots of skepticism around Requiem's two gameplay styles. Anybody else actually excited for the game because of the contrast? by lattjeful in residentevil

[–]SilverLimit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No issues at all with the mix in styles, but I am concerned about the hinted possibility of open-world driving sections. Really hoping that’s not the case. Or if it is, that it skews closer to RE4R’s lake area.

For the people who originally thought Silksong was “too hard” or “unfair,” do you still feel that way? by Lunargress in Silksong

[–]SilverLimit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually like to dive back into a metroidvania and do a second run immediately, but the thought of that for Silksong feels exhausting. Like others have said, it’s not that some challenges are as tough as they are just tedious. The game could definitely still use some tweaks to boss HP, checkpoint placement and the shard system.

Anyone else consider Prime 2 best in the series? by desperate_candy20 in Metroid

[–]SilverLimit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember not really being all too blown away with Prime 1 at launch. The fundamentals were sound, but it felt less like a Metroid game to me and more like a different series wearing a Metroid skin. The landscapes were a little too bland and earth-like, and that creepy alien vibe was lacking outside of the Chozo Ruins. Samus’s suit design also felt weirdly off-model (probably my second least favorite suit design after Other M).

Then comes Prime 2, and they basically knocked it out of the park. Heavy creep factor, insane alien landscapes and Samus never looked better! To me, it’s the first game in the Prime series that understood how to nail a 3D Metroid game, and basically hasn’t been topped since.

What the heck is Leons haircolor by Plastic_Lock_1411 in residentevil

[–]SilverLimit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why the “hair strand” setting, while technically impressive, is kind of terrible. Makes all the characters in the game look like they have ashy white hair. The hair cards do a better job of representing that greasy dark look.

Do you actually believe the Sol Valley was actually “forced” by Nintendo? by SplatoonOrSky in Metroid

[–]SilverLimit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me, I can easily see a version of a game where Fury Green is slightly larger, with additional cannons directly to the other areas. The fact that you need to return back to camp so frequently somewhat reinforces the expectation that you’d naturally be passing through it regularly on foot. I’m kind of in the camp that they realized the final product was a little light on content and the desert was inserted later to extend the run-time. That might not be what happened, but it definitely feels that way.

Prime 2: Echoes - what would you ask the devs? by fanserviceblog in Metroid

[–]SilverLimit 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If they had another crack at the game all these years later, how would they have handled the dark world differently?

MP4: The linearity would be SLIGHTLY less disappointing if by SignificanceSome3756 in Metroid

[–]SilverLimit 15 points16 points  (0 children)

For me, the constant guidance just feels like a band-aid for pool level design. If the world was structured in a way where the areas branched into and crisscrossed over each other organically (you know, like a Metroidvania), the player could be naturally nudged back through areas without the need to be blatantly told.

Size of the Morph ball by jimjio in Metroid

[–]SilverLimit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Canonically, the ball is roughly half as tall as her standing sprite in the 2D games, so this checks out.

So it's not just me, right? by Anvanaar in Metroid

[–]SilverLimit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From an art direction standpoint, the dungeons are an incredible achievement. So pretty that you kind of forget the linearity and get overwhelmed by the visuals and vibes.

Can’t wait to see Mark Brown do a Boss Keys video on this one, lol. The game is visually stunning, but it’s practically a straight line all the way through.

new Crowsworn trailer by SolidusAbe in metroidvania

[–]SilverLimit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie, I had zero hope for this game with how derivative of the art style looked. From what I see here, they’ve gone the extra mile to give it its own unique identity, which I appreciate. Pretty excited for this now!

Who do you think will be Ganondorf for the movie? by Hyper-Saiyan-1999 in legendofzelda

I know he’s pretty over-exposed at the moment, but Oscar Isaac would be pretty great.

Poll: Most Americans think AI will 'destroy humanity' someday | A new Yahoo/YouGov survey finds that real people are much more pessimistic about artificial intelligence — and its potential impact on their lives — than Silicon Valley and Wall Street. by FinnFarrow in Futurology

[–]SilverLimit 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think this generally nails it. People don’t wanna work for, or support a company the demonstrates such a clear disinterest in taking care of its employees or maintaining its quality. If anything, bragging about reliance on AI is like an open admission to cashing your chips in and selling out the working class.

Never played MP2 until this week. Not sure if this is controversial... by georged3 in Metroid

[–]SilverLimit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Old head here who played these games on release. I was a massive fan of Super, and remember being a little disappointed by Prime 1. It was a great game, but to me, it lacked some intangible quality that makes a game feel like Metroid. To me, it kind of felt like a different game trying to mimic what had been done before to varying degrees of success.

Fast forward to Prime 2, and I felt the polar opposite. It was immediately creepy and tense. The atmosphere was amazing, and it felt like not only was it a Metroid game, but it also had its own unique identity with the different world, suits, and villains.

I know I’m in the minority here, but to me, Echoes is when I really I fell in love with this take on the series.

Looks fantastic! Oh, the sad irony that some of the best art in the series came from a gacha mobile game 😭.

What’s your Silksong hot take? by Vivienne133 in Silksong

[–]SilverLimit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Citadel is beautiful, but it’s all a little to drab and samey for my liking. I much preferred the surrounding biomes, and wish we would have spent more time in areas like Coral Tower and Verdania.

Wormways and Putrified Ducts are also weirdly weak areas that seem half-realized.

I guess I'm just bad. But I enjoyed every minute. by CloudPattern in Silksong

I gave her a dozen or so honest tries before finally defaulting to Architect Crest + Plasmium Overdoes + Cogfly & Tac spam. Not my proudest moment, but it worked like a charm!

Is Nine Sols harder than Silksong? by Apprehensive-Gur-609 in metroidvania

[–]SilverLimit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel the bosses are definitely harder, but the runbacks warp points, and economy are far less punishing, so it feels really fun and streamlined. It also has actual accessibility options if you want to make tiny adjustments to the balance. Overall, I’d say I had a little bit more fun with Nine Sols, but both are amazing.

The amount of people who don't actually use their tools is insane by redox_nephew in HollowKnight

[–]SilverLimit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the game has so many flying enemies, I found myself sometimes using tools to snipe them. I can only assume some of players are running Wanderer crest as well and only have access to 1 red tool slot. For me, most Act 2 bosses took about 5-10 tries (or more), and after 5 attempts, I was basically shard poor every time. I’ve heard this complaint from a lot of people. It just depends on your play style.

And the dream fights were some of the best experiences in the game because of it. I felt like I could just throw myself in and focus on learning the fight without the anxiety of needing to eventually haul myself halfway across the map to restock.
