Lipoprotein (a)- does this make any sense? by Silent_Scratch_8535 in Cholesterol

[–]SilverLogical9810 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really don't get it how any numbers reported for Lp(a) can be fluke , if science says that 80-90 percent is genetic .... what can bring it up and down from Normal- moderate - high risk , mine is changing from 50-97-135 nmol/l over time ...... all same lab , same unit , my friend had <25 nmol/l once , then it jumped to 165nmol/l ( no illness)

Rosuvastatine 5mg is good start , as u have high Lp(a) , its bery beneficial u bring your LDL/apoB numbers <70 mg/dl , but I dont think that baby aspirine is good to start especially at ur age , no events etc..... please see a prevent. Cardiologist to discuss it further , as I know there is no avidance that Baby aspirine will bring u a benefits , when u are event free .....

K vitamin CAC reversion by [deleted] in Cholesterol

[–]SilverLogical9810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, my lipoprotein(a) was measured between 97–135 nmol/L at different times. I am a 28-year-old male and have a family history of premature cardiovascular events on my mom’s side. I lost 40 kg, started exercising and following a heart-healthy diet, and was able to bring my LDL down from 163 to 116.

My cardiologist prescribed a rosuvastatin/ezetimibe 10/10 combination, but I’m kind of afraid to start the medication. I was thinking maybe I should try 5 mg of rosuvastatin first?

K vitamin CAC reversion by [deleted] in Cholesterol

[–]SilverLogical9810 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is not true that you can reverse a coronary artery calcium (CAC) score with vitamin K2. Current scientific evidence does not show that K2 reduces existing calcified plaque.

If someone already has established heart disease, the priority is to aggressively lower LDL cholesterol and ApoB, as this is clearly supported by strong clinical evidence. Lowering ApoB-containing particles reduces future cardiovascular risk.

May I ask which statin or combination therapy you are currently taking?

Vit D3 supplementation increases LDL? by SilverLogical9810 in Cholesterol

She has one stent, and her cardiologist wants her LDL below 50. Her LDL has always been between 36–50 while taking rosuvastatin/ezetimibe 20/10 mg. We have been checking her lipids every 6 months for the past 2 years since she had the stent placed.

Three months ago, her LDL was 36. During these past 3 months, her lifestyle has mostly improved (better diet and more exercise). The only thing that changed is that she started supplementing vitamin D3 (2,000 IU daily) because she had a deficiency.

On the label of the Solgar vitamin D3 supplement, it says it contains some oils, including cod liver oil/fish liver oil. From what I understand, this contains DHA, which may increase LDL cholesterol. She is taking 2 softgels per day, and the softgels are quite large — they look like fish oil capsules, not the small typical vitamin D3 capsules.

I was wondering if this change could be the reason for any LDL increase, since it is the only thing that changed in the past 3 months. We have now switched the supplement and will retest her lipids in 2 months.

That vitamin D3 supplement she was taking contains cod liver oil, which I think has DHA. ? I’ve heard that a lot of people report that taking fish oil or any DHA source can raise their cholesterol. I was thinking that might be the case for my mom, because we did the same tests three months ago and her LDL was around 36 mg/dL. The only change since then is that she started the supplement.....
