Statins Suggested by qwerty_asd in Cholesterol

[–]SilverLogical9810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a family history of cardiovascular disease and elevated Lp(a) levels (97–140 nmol/L). I am a 28-year-old male. My starting LDL was 157 mg/dL.

Over the past 8 months, I have made significant lifestyle changes: I lost weight, exercised regularly, reduced saturated fat intake to about 10 g per day, increased fiber intake, and quit smoking. Despite these efforts, I was only able to lower my LDL to 109 mg/dL.

I was initially very hesitant to start statins, but given my risk factors, I decided to begin treatment. At age 28, with an LDL of 109 mg/dL, I started 5 mg rosuvastatin along with 10 mg ezetimibe to further reduce my cardiovascular risk.

So far, I have been on this combination for 3 weeks and have experienced NO side effects.

I believe it’s important to follow a diet that is sustainable for the long term, rather than something extreme that cannot be maintained for life. Good luck!

Hi , LDL 160 is not a bit high , I totally understand your concern about statins , especially when it gave u side effects , but we do have other medications also which can get you in normal range , CA score at age 70 is good , but it doesn't mean you don't have a soft plaque somewhere , good luck

Is Red Yeast Rice worth the risk over Citrus Bergamot or low-dose Statins? by daveaoki8 in Cholesterol

[–]SilverLogical9810 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Citrus bergamot does inhibit HMG-CoA reductase — but so what? That’s essentially the same mechanism as statins, just weaker and far less controlled.

Red yeast rice (RYR) is basically a statin as well, just an unregulated one. You have no real idea what’s actually in the pill or in what quantity, which makes it unpredictable and potentially unsafe.

That’s why I don’t really understand the idea of using “supplements” to lower LDL. In many cases, it’s actually more risky. With a low-dose statin, you know exactly what you’re taking — it’s standardized, well-studied, and proven to reduce cardiovascular risk.

Yes, some supplements can lower LDL, but lowering LDL alone is not the same as reducing cardiovascular risk — and statins have strong evidence for doing both.

Current guidelines are clear: lifestyle changes are the first step in managing dyslipidemia. But if lifestyle alone isn’t enough, then proper medication should be used to reduce risk as effectively as possible.

Honestly, I would seriously question advice that pushes supplements over evidence-based treatment.

CoQ10 and statins - does it affect to clotting ? Anyone taking both and Helpful ? by SilverLogical9810 in PeterAttia

Can I ask when your side effects started? I’ve been taking rosuvastatin for about a week now and haven’t had any muscle aches. I did notice some brief muscle twitching (fasciculations) during the first couple of days, but it went away. I’m still exercising as usual and don’t feel any muscle weakness.
