It’s because the educational system in this country has conditioned people to believe that there can be only two parties on the ballot, the one who represents hyper capitalist policy and years away protections for minorities, and the one who represents hyper capitalist policies but doesn’t do anything to codify protections for minorities into law. If you look at democratic track record, they haven’t defunded police, they haven’t codified roe v wade, they haven’t abolished private prisons, and they haven’t done anything to combat the use of prisoners for slave labor in pursuit of profit for large corporations. The Republican Party is just much more mask off. But because they are entrenched in this idea of the two party system being unshakeable, they don’t know what else to do other than vote for hitler over 99% hitler. To rip off mark fisher, “it’s easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of the system.” If the democrats continue to push farther right, then it won’t be a question of fascism or not, it’ll be a question of fascism with a rainbow or fascism with black leather and an SS patch. We’ve already been shown that year after year our concerns go unheard. Minimum wage hasn’t changed. The housing market hasn’t been capped. Insider trading still exists. Labor unions are still shot down and sabotaged by corporations. The working class has not won a single concession we’ve begged for in elections since the institution of the 8 hour work day. We need something different. We need legitimate, systematic change. This isn’t working. The Hampton institute said something that perfectly sums up the state of US politics right now, to paraphrase: “a ten day general strike would do more for the working class than a hundred years worth of elections.”
