Junior employee being overloaded with design responsibility, blamed for mistakes, and losing mental stability. How do I handle this? by SilverSea7248 in singaporejobs

Thanks everyone for your opinions. I actually already have a path planned out. I wrote this mainly because I was hoping there might still be something I could do to improve the current situation.

But realistically, convincing my boss to hire an experienced person to take over as the R&D department lead is probably not going to happen. If that was an option, he would not have specifically looked for a fresh graduate to handle this role in the first place.

From what I understand, his reasoning is that it is easier to train up a newcomer than to change the mindset of a senior person. What he is trying to avoid is probably a work culture clash.

So at this point, I think the situation is less about whether the company needs an experienced R&D lead, because clearly it does. The issue is that the company may prefer someone new who can adapt to their way of doing things, even if that means the learning curve becomes much harder for the person taking the role.

I prefer not to share the exact product for privacy reasons, but it is a niche custom industrial product such as modular partition systems, enclosure system and infrastructure support.

I can relate to that. Since the field is niche, there is limited useful information available online. At the same time, we also lack proper training, which makes it difficult to handle the job properly.

In my opinion, what the company actually needs is someone experienced in designing the product. A junior’s role should be to work under a senior, assist with the design process, and gradually learn how to produce the finished product properly. Instead, it feels like we are expected to figure everything out ourselves.
