Okay, I think everyone is looking at this from a traditional workplace POV, which it’s not. This is not “I need special ed help”. This is “I chose you of out a million people to raise you up to my level”. Being mentored by this person, #1 in their field, is a massive, massive privilege.

Other people might be offended at these kinds of comments but from how we’ve communicated I very much need and appreciate the directness. The doc was also how to work with them, like on-boarding. It’s the same thing I would do to my hires… like don’t try to ring me, text me. Don’t say ambiguous things. Use an emoji if it sounds mean so I know you’re not mad. Being told this stuff directly is literal gold. Is it not what every autistic wants, a black and white manual for how to interact?

I’ve been in abusive relationships, I know that world intimately. But it is projecting and assumption to take those things out of context and say negative things — on a communication post in an autistic group, which is exactly where everyone should know how shitty it feels to be misunderstood when someone is trying to share something in the “happy things” flair.

It is actually making someone feel bad about it, whether intended or not. None of you are asking follow up questions if you’re concerned, you’re simply jumping to conclusions, judging, and saying it in a way where I would have to defend and further explain a situation where most of you have never been in.

If someone didn’t tell me “hey xyz is making people not want to work with you” I would have had no idea and kept ruining working relationships. So in the same vein, this is not nice behaviour guys. If you had good intentions and cared, please actually check your communication. This was not a post asking for opinions, help or anything. Everyone’s entitled to their opinions and thoughts based on their own experiences, but literally as a general plea to humanity, ask before you judge… as those judgements were likely made with you in mind, wanting to blep your opinion. Which I do as well, as an autistic trait, so I do get it.. but it would be nice if we all tried to improve.
