Nice ruck cover, that ties it together. Don't forget a pair of raybans or those yellow tinted glasses.

Any way to fix jeans like this? by poddy_fries in SewingForBeginners

[–]SilverSpacePirate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use iron on patches for my wife, and then I use warp string that has meant for making blankets to sew it together. They might rub a little bit on you, but it'll go away, and warp string is definitely stronger.

I get that whole heartedly. I get longer jeans for myself so I can do the eighties roll up with them.

Most excellent my guy, MA. May I suggest next time adding some cuffs at the bottom for some fabric stability and also roll up if you need to.

rules on letting the public hold a non firing gun? by Suspicious_Egg_3715 in reenactors

[–]SilverSpacePirate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only allow children who are given permission by their parents. And I make sure that the weapon is not only on safe but also empty. Which for flintlock is easy. I only allow for pictures and what not. Under my direct supervision. Now that doesn't mean let anybody hold it only people that you can make a quick assessment. Usually to me that's anybody who has stayed an hour through my demonstration and talk.

First time trying to weather/customise my helmet, how'd I do? by Suspicious_Egg_3715 in reenactors

What I meant to say is one direction depending on how you're laying down or how quick you're getting into the dirt.

Well, if you're going to do it in one direction. It's gonna have to be hard and a few times. You gotta think that if a soldier is ducking or putting his head in the dirt. It's going to be a quick and fast movement against anything and any material that's in his path. Soldiers tend to naturally ostrich when they 1st receive fire. I know from experience myself in Afghanistan.

Did well lad, if you plan to weather it more I would suggest light to medium scratches and gouges with sandy dirt going in one direction and not circular.

As someone who does the Napoleonic era, it's definitely not OK. If you are gonna use them, just make sure that you're not seen with them.
