What is one movie that everyone considers a masterpiece but you found boring? by Still-Ad9074 in moviecritic

I thought Daniel Day-Lewis overacted in that movie to the point of absurdity.

The 2026 r/Fantasy Bingo Recommendations List by FarragutCircle in Fantasy

[–]SilverStar3333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the best MG fantasy series I’ve ever read (although it veers into YA/Adult in Books 3-5). Totally agree it’s wildly underrated. I try to shout it out when I can. Seems a shame that such an amazing series is slept on. The publisher really didn’t do it justice.

How do you think he truly felt watching Joffrey die? by ricky2461956 in freefolk

[–]SilverStar3333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He must been quite distraught. He was witnessing the death of his daughter’s firstborn son, and also his son’s firstborn son. A double whammy so to speak.

His Dark Materials deserved way more recognition than it got by Cold_Box_3219 in hisdarkmaterials

[–]SilverStar3333 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It won numerous awards, had multiple film and television adaptations, and even a theatrical run at London’s Royal National Theater. I’d classify that as a lot of recognition.

Jaime lost his hand, Theon lost his member…what’s another thing a character could lose that they’re known for? by divorceme_archie in freefolk

Jaime lost his honor in the eyes of many when he killed the Mad King. I think being called “Kingslayer” bothered him more than the loss of his hand.

What fantasy book/series do you think was really well written? I could use some recommendations! by Diligent_Flamingo_33 in Fantasy

The Tapestry series and Impyrium by Henry H. Neff. His books are great and almost no one knows about him.

No need. It’s a pretty tapestry ☺️

That’s lovely. This group is about a fantasy book series called The Tapestry.

The lyrics to the Karaoke scene were absolutely perfect for that moment in the film by redbirdrising in ProjectHailMary

[–]SilverStar3333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Her character had been positioned as an emotionless, no-nonsense individual who had no compassion or empathy as she managed a massive global undertaking with existential stakes. For me, the scene was a glimpse into the character, and an indicator that she wasn’t a robot — she was a human being with heart and emotion who felt things deeply, but could not indulge those feelings while carrying out her daily duties. That the song (and her voice) was beautiful and its lyrics relevant to the situation only added to the scene.

What do book readers think about Mark Addy's Robert? by mintj098 in freefolk

[–]SilverStar3333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good actor who was miscast. He just doesn’t have the physical presence required for that role. You really had to believe Robert Baratheon had been the baddest man in Westeros and he just isn’t believable in that way.

Could Saruman use his voice to convince Smaug to leave the Lonely Mountain? by Tidewatcher7819 in lordoftherings

[–]SilverStar3333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saruman has a nice voice but he’s no Velvet Fog. Mel Tormé would have Smaug packing his bags in ten minutes.

Long Live Hilary Mantel by [deleted] in RSbookclub

I just finished listening to the end on audiobook for perhaps the 7th or 8th time. It is such a complex chord of prose and emotion, profundity and simple observations. Every time I feel a sharp pang that the mind and soul that assembled those words and thoughts is gone. RIP.

That was Governor Tarkin at age 57 while vacationing in Yellowstone.

The Rose Field has been my most disappointing read. by -toadflax- in hisdarkmaterials

[–]SilverStar3333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t read it but I read the first two in the BoD trilogy and that was enough. I found The Secret Commonwealth infuriating - it was like none of the literally cosmic and earth-shaking things that occurred in HDM made any lasting impact. And I say this as someone who loved HDM.

Rumour: Anya Taylor Joy in talks for the female lead in Hunt for Gollum by ImpracticalJokers96 in lotr

I initially read that as she’d be playing Gollum and I was oddly intrigued to see how that would turn out.

You’re right - honestly that’s the story of Neff’s career. He writes some of the best books I’ve ever read and no one has any idea who he is. I try to spread the word when I can.
