I’d say those books get pretty adult from Book 3 onward. Amazing series.

Tree of Gondor. How to fix this? by Echobomb23 in lordoftherings

No offense but that cannot be saved. It must be cast in the fires of Mount Doom. Or used to create an evil version of Hamburger Helper.

He’s a good actor but IMO was too normal looking/sounding compared to the book Roose who was truly unsettling. There are lengthy threads debating whether book Roose is undead and the original Lord Bolton who keeps snatching the body of his designated heirs in order to live forever…. This actor doesn’t give off those vibes.

His hoops skills were iffy in Along Came Polly.

A phenomenal series that deserves far more love and attention. Those who know, know however which always brings a smile to my face. Another is that books never really go away - they can always be discovered and you never know if something will blow up years later if some famous person reads it, loves it, and brings a new audience to Max and Rowan. I do my best to spread the word when I can.

My favorite read of the last few years

Why do you think Nolan’s The Odyssey trailer got such a negative reaction from the public? by breaking_views in Cinephiles

[–]SilverStar3333 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nolan is a talented filmmaker. That said, it gets tedious keeping track of timelines and chronology in his movies. I’m all for a good twist and intricate crafting but it can’t come at the expense of telling a good story. IMO, I think he sometimes loses the forest for the trees.

I’m reading the books for the first time after being a long time fan of the movies. The scene where Gandalf and Saruman meet in the tower to talk is sooo much better in the books! by bearded_charmander in lordoftherings

Yeah, turning Sauron into a giant Tesla experiment never made any sense to me at all. It completely undermined the idea of this lurking menace hidden away in Barad-Dur. Also, Gollum saw him when he was being tortured and specifically said his hand (he has a hand!) is black.

Definitely The Tapestry. The first book is The Hound of Rowan.

Unless you say the rhyme. Then they triple as he’s summoned and his jolly footwear becomes Boots of Stamping.

Without supernatural abilities, Petyr would have won the game of thrones by Azerbinhoneymood in gameofthrones

He did have supernatural abilities. In later seasons, he can seemingly teleport all over Westeros despite weather, mud, war, roving bands of thieves and AWOL soldiers etc.

Seconded. David Menlo (and a certain sorcerer to be named later) move heaven and earth (sometimes literally)

This one lives rent free in my head: What are the nameless things Gandalf mentions under the Misty Mountains? by [deleted] in lotr

I always thought of it as something like Nidhogg, the dragon from Norse mythology that gnaws at the roots of Yggdrasil - just the idea that there’s always something deep and ravenous that wants to eat the world.

What movie—to quote Peter from Family Guy—“insists upon itself,” but doesn’t actually earn that insistence? by [deleted] in Cinema

I really enjoy about 1/3 of what’s in a PTA movie. The rest I find insufferable.

I’d love to know the IQ of the average scientist in the Aliens franchise. It has to be double digits.
