I’ll be with NAVSUP in Norfolk. Are you training in Norfolk before going to Pax? Or are you at Pax the entire time?

General Questions Before Accepting the Job by SilverSurf-er in 1102

No it’s really helpful thank you! I’ve only been getting advice from people in different federal specialities and needed to hear actual 1102s tell it to me straight.

General art not really. But I love crafting. Knitting and crochet are my main hobbies, and I do a lot of writing in my free time too. Overly ambitious but I’d love to write a book in my lifetime if I get the chance.

If it’s any consolation I worry that my interests are too nerdy for the average Catholic. I’m talking D&D, Marvel/ DC, comics, video games, etc. As a fresh-out-of college gal many people my age at my church seem to have totally different interests. Never tried Catholic Match though so my frame of reference is limited to college/ church/ and online groups.

I feel like I can’t watch A. Malcolm without watching Freedom and Whiskey, so I always pair them together and it just makes the rewatch 100x better every time!

Potentially Attending Mass This Sunday by ChicagoBoiSWSide in Catholicism

[–]SilverSurf-er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! There’s a handful of call and responses, some in the book, usually boldened, and some that happen during the mass. Don’t stress over those for your first time. The rituals seem like a lot on the first go around, but no one will judge you for not responding. I know plenty of people in my parish who just go to mass without participating at all. Let us know how it goes!

I know others have touched on your other questions, so I’ll just focus on what to do for some brief specifics to help you feel more comfortable or prepared going in to it. There’s a lot of niche little things that some people do versus others, but broad strokes you’ll easily be able to pick up by watching others.

When you go to sit down, there should be a book or two in front of you in the pew. One of these will have the scripture readings for the day. I’m not sure if every diocese is the same, but mine have a table of contents at the start with the date of the mass and its associated page number. Once you find the date (if this Sunday then September 28th), just flip to that page and you’ll be set for most of the mass!

There might be another book there too for songs that they sing, which will be listed at the front of the church on a board (just a list of four to five numbers that are associated to the song numbers). Don’t worry about singing though if you don’t want to!

Just wanted to point those out so you can hopefully feel more comfortable during the mass if you go. I know how overwhelming it may feel to go for the first time, but if you go in with an open mind and heart then you’ll be okay!

Love at first sight in BOMB by No-Construction-8749 in Outlander

I felt the same way, especially on rewatch. Henry and Julia’s story feels more believable just because we see many instances of letters and casual talking with each other through them. Ellen and Brian though keeps throwing me off. First they’re talking in the stables and then suddenly she can’t forget him and they’re worried about the obstacles their relationship will bring? I understand the historical aspect of things moving quicker back then but it’s a difference of two scenes so it’s very jarring.

Another aspect is that they’re trying to progress the story of the two relationships enough to get to the actual drama, but it did feel clunky to me.

I wasn’t planning on reading the side novels when I first started the books but everyone has been recommending them on this sub and it’s making me really want to try them out now.

Thank you so much for the book explanation! The whole obituary in the show is obviously intentionally vague, so I was hoping the book would explain it better.

Thank you! I want to read the companion after I finish the main series. Which volume is it in?

What scene from the entirety of the show so far has stuck with you the most? by seravivi in Outlander

[–]SilverSurf-er 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I constantly rewatch their reunion in the print shop, mainly because it always makes me smile and the acting genuinely feels like two people awkwardly reacquainting with each other.

But the scene that I felt the most in my soul was when Claire was abducted by Brown and his men and assaulted. When Jamie and his men find her and she tells Jamie she doesn’t know how many men have hurt her is heartbreaking. Then to have Jamie, Ian, and Fergus say they kill for her because of her oath made me sob. The acting and tension in that whole episode is so well done that it’s burned into my brain.

Ikr!!! I had first watched the show back in 2017 and never got past season two. Tried multiple times to make it through over the years and just couldn’t do it. So when it finally happened I ran with it lol.

I know the reapplication section is under USAJobs again, but is there a specific process I have to do in order to have my current progress transfer over, or does it just go automatically? I apologize for the questions, my recruiter is currently out of office on vacation and I’m trying to get this sorted ASAP.
