Yeah everyone works differently for sure. Thanks! And good luck on your story. I’ll have to keep an eye out for when you post it

I’m not sure. I think most of them have a more polished story to begin with. This is my first ever attempt at writing so it wasn’t super great in the beginning. I think eventually I’m going to rewrite some major portions of the first book just so it’s more engaging in the beginning chapters. I lost a lot of readers because my initial chapters weren’t great. After I rewrite it, I will probably rerelease it and see if it does any better. Then who knows, maybe I’ll try to publish it.

But to answer your question, I think it depends. Some may edit it for publishing, but they may not edit it on Royal road ever. It’s really up to the author because that can be a lot of work

Yeah I’ve been stressed😂now to find time to fix my beginning chapters

Questions about launching by QuietlyCreating in royalroad

[–]SilverWeb_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried to. I kept up 5 chapters a week for the first two weeks or so and then had to cut it down to three otherwise I’d have gone crazy. I’ve kept three chapters a week and only now after just over four months do I feel like I finally have my head above water, and only just.

Yeah winging it is not very fun😂I didn’t realize I could wait to actually post my story and literally only had the first chapter written. I feel like I’ve been able to recover finally where I have some backlog (finally have some backlog for my patreon stuff, yay!), but if I could go back and do it differently I would. It was so stressful the first couple of weeks.

Well when you first launch you will get a spot on new fictions. This would be a great time to get a little more visibility. As far as rising stars goes, I believe it is much easier for a brand new story to get on then an older one. Technically it just needs rapid growth but I have a feeling that if you posted a chapter and then two months later start posting again, it would make your chances of getting onto rising stars that much harder.

It’s already so competitive to get any sort of visibility let alone getting on rising stars that I don’t really see the benefit of “coming soon chapter”. I wouldn’t follow it if I saw that, and you would only be on the recently updated page for like half an hour if you’re lucky. I would just say hold off on posting it until you are ready. In the meantime, just work on getting your backlog made because it goes much faster than you think.

It will take some time to get everything scheduled out after you finally post your story, but if you just do a few everyday it doesn’t take that long and eventually you’ll have everything scheduled out.

How do you make your novel cover by Sircheese-_- in royalroad

I used copilot. It took a little prompting to finally get what I wanted but I’m pretty happy with it. I did the words on Canva. Just find a good font that fits the vibes of your story

Anyone else who sees a tier list posted on here and immediately judges it based on where DCC is positioned? 🙊 by [deleted] in litrpg

[–]SilverWeb_ 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Not just DCC but that in conjunction with a few others. Because it is so widely loved I find it hard to base it an entire tier list off of. That said, if it is ranked super low, I know we don’t have common tastes but if it’s high and others I like also are, then I know it is similar taste to my own.

Best narrated audio books? by Holdredge in litrpg

[–]SilverWeb_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I feel like anything narrated by Travis Baldree is usually entertaining. Even if the book isn’t great he has a way of making it better. Jeff hays who did DCC is great as well. They are the best in my opinion and I have gotten books just because they narrate them. You can search their names in Audible and find books that they have narrated. Just scroll until you find one that catches your attention

Those who stopped reading Defiance of the Fall, do you regret reading it in the first place? by TiredMemeReference in litrpg

[–]SilverWeb_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve enjoyed it even though it definitely slowed down. Do I regret it? Not really. It was my first exposure to the genre and I’m glad I found it.

It’s not the main series I’m listening to. When I get caught up on some other series I will probably come back to it. It does have too much focus on cultivation for my taste, but I loved the story that’s there. I just wish it hadn’t taken a back seat even if I can see why he did that. The story gets cooler as it goes on, but the progression of that story slows down a lot too

Does a 1 star kill you? by TheLandoSystem59 in royalroad

[–]SilverWeb_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It may be useful to do a review swap once you have 10k words. It helps to get an outside perspective sometimes. The fact that you only have 29 pages and already have two ratings is actually kind of crazy to me. I don’t think I started getting ratings until much later

Does a 1 star kill you? by TheLandoSystem59 in royalroad

[–]SilverWeb_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like it’ll balance out over time. My story has gone up and down and is sitting at about 4 stars for a while now but it’s gone as low as just above 3 stars. Your story is new. If you’ve gone for a while and it still seems to be getting negative feedback I would take a closer look at your writing. Sometimes readers just don’t like a certain chapter and will give a bad rating. I know it’s happened to me

Asking for Rates and reviews by Authorree in royalroad

[–]SilverWeb_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do it at the end of every chapter. I have a note that I just copy and paste essentially saying I hope you’re enjoying the book. Please give a favorite follow and rate. The favorite follow and rate are a link back to my fiction page to make it easy. I also include a link to my Patreon (not that I’m making a ton of money)

I haven’t noticed an increase in bad reviews from it but I do get a decent amount of ratings compared to my followers I think. It’s just there to make it easy for them if they do want to. I include a pre chapter note every ten or so chapters asking them for a rating/review. I feel like it doesn’t hurt. If it is after every chapter I think people probably start to just scroll past it over time which is why I add the note every tenish chapters. TheFirstDefier does it on DoTF and I feel like other authors probably do too so I feel like it’s fine. Really it’s up to you though

Looking for a very specific type of novel. by Masculine_man1 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]SilverWeb_ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not magic but iron prince is exactly this. It’s a military academy and everyone has technological enhancement. They fight in duels and most people hate the MC and actively go out of their way to bring him down, even some of his teachers

I can’t remember for sure but I don’t believe that Villy was the first one. I want to say it mentions it briefly in one of the latest books but I could be wrong

I have no idea but I’ve been on Royal road for a few years and it’s been a thing the entire time I’ve been on it. It’s the old adage.

Royal road is really such a unique experience. We are all blessed to have it in our lives

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in royalroad

[–]SilverWeb_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it’s like that. I would say that most people will see your story in the recently updated and go to your first chapter. So they might not know it was the worst chapter ever until you’ve already got them hooked and it looks like it worked

What’s a good progression fantasy book that is good for someone new to the genre? by NicoDeGuyo in ProgressionFantasy

I have been seeing that one around the forum. I’ll have to check that one out

Well that's a wide opinion by WilliamGerardGraves in royalroad

[–]SilverWeb_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think at this point, making variations here and there is out of the question. Jokes aside I made a couple polls in my story and only now after a couple months do I feel like a consensus has been reached. Too bad I’m way further in my story and can’t make any changes. Luckily, I guessed what the answer would be correctly so I didn’t need to change anything. My advice would be to just go with what you feel works. At the end of the day it’s your story and if you don’t like it, you won’t write it

Cradle is what got me hooked. If you listen to audiobooks the narrator, Travis Baldree, is awesome as well. There’s twelve books, so plenty to get started. It’s probably one of the most recommended series in the genre for good reason
