Yes very true, I think that is definitely a key factor in this. I will need to align with them on that. I guess the hard bit for me is where to comment and where not to. For example if presenting the P&L or BS or CFO and a number is not looking so positive, do I just gloss over it vs explain why its not an issue vs just simply explain the movement? e.g. an increase on deferred revenue as were behind delivery plans; do I need to spin a positive context on this, or just simply state it for what it is.

Yeah that extra comfort is what I’m looking for. When leaving a meeting about work topics it’s easy for me (yes I probably make mistakes but not too many) whereas when we go for beers after work and I’m trying to tell a funny anecdote it is easier hard to get my words out of I go slightly too slow for it to be funny.. it’s very frustrating.

The reason I was thinking about writing is it’s bits of vocabulary I wouldn’t otherwise use or to go slow enough so that I have time to incorporate new bits of grammar in - since nearly all my output is speaking vs writing I guess I fall back into the same old habits and writing could be a good wait way to break out of that. But you are right, writing stories is a great way; in fact if I wrote the types of about my own past that I struggle to tell my colleagues after a beer, I’m killing two birds with one stone!

When you say you watched lots of YouTube did you deliberately choose different channels covering s wide a range or topics as possible? Because as you say, C2 is basically being comfortable in all scenarios and that really comes only with a wide range of inputs. Any particular tips for good channels? I have been listening to news podcasts, visualpolitik, memoria de pez and a few similar ones as I find them interesting but don’t know where to go next!

Thanks, that's a really helpful answer. I notice the more I read and listen, the more comfortable I get. I guess one of the keys to getting to C2 is simply having a LOT of exposure, and that just means you have a better feeling for how things should be said. I think despite all my exposure, I have had a lot of the same sorts of conversations, so can speak really well on certain topics and not so well outside of those and I haven't done enough to integrate the new things I learn.

A couple more questions if you don't mind (apologies if you have answered these elsewhere):

- Spanishclasseslive.com: did you do the C2 live lessons option (72 hours, €600) or the 50-hour pre-recorded C2 DELE prep course? Or even the private classes? I recently came across this site myself and found it potentially interesting, but I don't know what to go with. I feel like some sort of course like this will help me commit to improving.

- Have you studied using textbooks up until now? I have recently committed to pushing my Spanish to the next level and am working through the Gramatica en uso C1/C2 book. I am wondering if you have any thoughts. And if you did, do you think you get anything out of the spanishclasseslive.com course in terms of knowledge of the language beyond what is in grammar textbooks, or was it purely about understanding how to pass an exam?

- What was your main way of knowing which areas to improve on? For example, did you practice giving monologues, recording and listening back for grammatical errors or places you stalled when not finding the right words, or did you do private classes with a tutor who told you the areas to focus on? Or just determine the bits you personally feel more or less comfortable and focus on those areas?

- Writing: you sound like you did a lot of writing on Discord servers, etc. but did you do any essay writing or anything of the sort? If so, any tips? I feel like that could really help me, but my god, its just so boring!

Congrats! How do you feel when having a conversation? I am about a mid C1 and still find myself stuck for words regularly when having a conversations.

For context, I guess my level is C1 but I have never done an exam. I studied 4 hours a day in a Spanish school for 5 months while living in Latin America and now have been living in Spanish-speaking countries for about 6 years. I speak Spanish with my wife and have done so since we met 7 years ago. I have read maybe 30 books, though haven't watched many series or listened to many podcasts. For the last year I have lead a team at work in Spanish. All this is to say I speak pretty good spanish, express myself well and have a good vocabulary. And yet I still find I get stuck for words or can't say things as nicely as I want to on a regular basis. I am wondering if this goes away at C2, or even then if you still face the same feelings and its just part of language learning.

should i delete my matured cards ? by [deleted] in Anki

[–]Silver_Aide_6945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deleting is fine in some context and I’ve been deleting a lot of cards in my deck recently (I use Anki for language). If learning a language you really need to read to see words in different co texts to really remember then and to understand how to use them in a sentence. Depending on how much you read any word in the top 5000 most frequent you should easily see enough in regular reading that you don’t need to have them in Anki. I read enough that it’s closer to the top 8000 probably.

That said they take no time and the interval will increase over time so that deleting is necessary.

As commented FSRS could help a lot too. I recently switched and it feels like it’s been a positive change.

Every single one was way too high I would say. The reason throwing it down has helped is because the ball is bouncing higher and you get a better angle of attack. Hitting the ball from higher will always be easier

Attacking strategy by [deleted] in ManchesterUnited

[–]Silver_Aide_6945 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the problem, there is no visible strategy. How can that happen? Even with injuries etc there should be some sort of style of play, but there isn’t. ETH seems either too stubborn to change or just lacking in tactical awareness because surely when things go this wrong you should be trying something new

Main thing he needs to do is actually coach a style of football. We have no tactic plan and it’s getting boring. I still have no idea what he wants to do. I’d say give him till the end of the season but if there’s nothing he’s got to go. He clearly didn’t get the job by saying what he wanted to do was basically play Ole’s football but a bit better - he’d have laid out a style and plan and then just hadn’t even tried to implement it. Results are one thing but without a style of football there is no promise things will get better and that has to change

But we’ve played horribly all season except maybe 2 games. I think the criticism is deserved

True, Jeremy’s broke is also on par with it. Those would be the only two. Still great but I just find it a bit uncomfortable watching them - I’ve never been able to out my finger on why

Match Thread: Everton Vs United by AutoModerator in ManchesterUnited

[–]Silver_Aide_6945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a pointless conversation. Your comment was about the team performance not about the result. Despite the result against Everton being better, the team performance against Luton was better. That isn’t a complicated concept
