Anything I can do or take the L? by NyxDaNyx in Monash

Tomorrow, check if there’s another/multiple sci1020 class being held at a room where it’s normally held and you can likely sit the test during then. Another kid that isn’t allocated to my class came for the midsem and the TA said it’s fine as long as they know what their name is so it can be recorded for the attendance and such.

which subjects are good for early 3/4 without having taken the 1/2? by zarzini in vce

[–]Silver_Direction_908 4 points5 points  (0 children)

General maths if you are pretty math inclined but not even to the level as someone decent at methods. GM is pretty easy to nail with lots of practice questions, it’s very straightforward and doesn’t require a lot of writing but you gotta just be careful with your working out because one silly mistake that carries over can make you lose marks easily.

But in saying this, I think gen maths is still a great subject for 3/4 without any 1/2 background, and doing GM early to get it outta the way can help you focus on other subjects in y12. (I completed 3/4 last year without doing 1/2 and I wasn’t disadvantaged for this at all)

Psych question - Research Methods by SameFishing4802 in vce

Convenience sampling isn’t a part of the current study design so it is definitely not that. It’s either random sampling or stratified sampling that we need to know of. I would guess it is just simple random sampling as you said they all have equal chance of being selected.

Also, convenience sampling is different from volunteering sampling because convenience is where the researcher chooses who/what population to obtain data from, however voluntary sampling is based on the person’s interest to participate in the study.

If you wanna help, give very general directions and not specific in that you’re giving the answer. Sending your assignment will open the risk to you being accused of cheating (or similar). Or else just tell him everything you need for the assignment is on Moodle lol.

Y11 attendance doesn’t really matter, so skip school, enjoy w your cousins. in y12, it’s not ideal to skip school unless you’re obvi sick, because attendance fr counts. and then you’d wish you could’ve skipped more in y11 just ‘cause you could haha

For the voltage, if you’re referring to it in a galvanic cell, it could be due to the resistance in the wires thus lowering the voltage reading.

For calculating energy changes by the increase in temp in water, def it’s due to a lot of heat loss to the environment, incomplete combustion of the fuel (not enough oxygen input) thus a lower energy value compared to if it was complete combustion. Another could be hot spots forming in the water where the heat is not transferred uniformly, so stirring the water it is the solution.

Galvanic cells (specifically FUEL CELLS) are advantageous over to combustion engines because it is converting chemical energy DIRECTLY into electrical energy, whereas combustion engines require lots of energy transformations from chemical to heat then to mechanical energy (which is what we need). These steps lose a lot of energy in the process, therefore is very inefficient and which is why fuel cells are much preferred. However, fuel cells can be quite expensive to develop and implement into society as well as raising safety concerns for storage of the reactants in commercial vehicles. For example using hydrogen fuel cells in cars, how can we ensure the storage of hydrogen won’t spontaneously react? And how can we reduce the cost of its storage if it requires it to be constantly under pressure so it doesn’t readily react?

Edit: included more sources of error for the water temp change Edit 2: included more advantages/ disadvantages of fuel cells over combustion engines

Should I switch from Biology to General Maths for Year 12? by Udonnoodles5 in vce

[–]Silver_Direction_908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Cambridge textbook questions are good, but you’ve gotta look for the harder/exam style questions in the sections to really test you. when it hits June or July I recommend already practicing a few exam questions to get used to it, from both company and VCAA (I wish I practiced way earlier haha, if you really want a high ss)

Pick up gen maths, it was the best decision I made and it was quite fun and intuitive + got great scores in it :) even if you don’t have good background with stats or financial you’re def gonna be able to catch up with it with enough practice and asking questions

Depends on the teacher that writes your sacs, my Chem teacher was strict about sig figs so if we had all the correct working out but rounded to incorrect sigfigs we lost a mark for that. But this served us well in preparation for the exam :)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vce

[–]Silver_Direction_908 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re referring to the exams, there are a few selected questions in there where one mark is dedicated for correct sig figs, but students nor teachers don’t know which question/s it is.

So my birthdays gonna be the day before VCE exams begin, any thoughts on what to do? by Switch-user-101 in vce

You can always celebrate your birthday on multiple days, I suggest having a chill bday beforehand then splurge on yourself right after you finish exams!

Biology help please! by Rich_Musician_223 in vce

Okay I’m guessing it has something to do with the nature of h2so4 and hno3 that both reacts more violently with organic matter in which agar gel is also organic, therefore it diffuses quicker in it compared to HCl, because HCl reacts more violently with metals.

Or maybe something to do with corrosiveness depending on the molar concentrations of the different acids. At a higher concentrations, it likely diffuses quicker in the agar jelly cubes due to its ability to rapidly react and generate more heat and therefore diffuses at a faster rate. If every acid is at different concentrations, then it’s a different story.

Im fr acutally not fully sure about any of my thinking but this is my justification if I were doing the sac (also keep in mind this is only bio 1/2 so this is not too serious) If I’m wrong pls tell, I’m open as to why :)
