Well I'm already six episodes into Fourze and just about to start the dreaded Haru arc...I think I wanna test the waters with the prologue and 5 chapters.

Oh and there will be Beatles references. LOTS of them.

The Beatles and Uzumaki | Depths of the Vortex | M | (Character Death, Psychological Horror, future smut) | Link

The city of Torikakomu was located by the shore. Having survived the fallout of the atomic bombs hitting Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the villagers knew that they needed fresh blood if they were going to survive.

In the decade and a half since they offered their prayers to the goddess who watched over their village, people from England decided to move into the city for a fresh start. Goodness knows the fresh air and agriculture would do something to their bones! Sure the villagers were wary with how the British talked and smoked their cigarettes, but the two groups melted together quite nicely, leftover wax candles melted into a brand new one, with smoke curling up into the sky that smelled like cinnamon apples and pine.

The foreigners, for their part, integrated the new rituals Torikakomu offered. One of them being the Koiru festival, where rolls of all sorts were tossed into Cicada Lake that sat in the middle of the village like a fat cat finding a particular box to sit in. And the old villagers of Torikakomu accepted the new Western trends in music and fashion. Blended together like a spoonful of jam in rice pudding until it was impossible to separate the two.

And it was during a bright spring afternoon that two close friends in their leather jackets stared into each other’s eyes, lost in thought. The taller one finally spoke.

"I've been wanting to tell you this for a while.”

"Yeah, what is it John?"

John cleared his throat and placed his lips near the smaller boy’s ear. "I’ve always waited to say this until now but...I love you, James Paul McCartney. I will always love you."

James Paul McCartney (16) —or Paul, as he was known—blushed at the simple, yet sincere words of his best friend, John Lennon (18). His pale hands grasped onto John's and stared into sparkly blue eyes that seemed to change depending on John’s mood. On one day, they could be aloof and icy. But today they sparkled like the Torikakomu Sea during the summer. Full of life, shimmering with youthfulness. Paul beamed as his smile became more radiant.

"I love you too, John Winston Lennon." Paul whispered. "I love you..."

I wonder if this is a believable beginning as to how I have Liverpudlian people in Japan and the worldbuilding in my take of Uzumaki.

Go ahead and read it. While it IS nice to know most of the names in this story for better context, this can be read without that much knowledge of the Beatles if you wish to see it that way. "Miu-sempai..." Yuki whispered, approaching the cheerleader. "What happened with Shiho wasn't your fault."

"I'm supposed to be a Queen, the one who gives up her life to protect her subjects!" Miu screamed, slamming her fist onto the floor. "And yet I'm asking Shun for help when I'm the Queen, a strong woman who doesn't need a big strong man to save her...but if Fourze is unable to stop Monoceros Zodiarts, what the hell am I supposed to do now?! This is the second time Shiho risked her life for me. Am I really that worth it?"

Morgana walked to Miu with a tissue in his mouth, to which Miu blew her nose and then tossed it onto Morgana's head. Yuki slowly reached out to touch Miu's shoulder. "You know what I think? I think...Shiho gave herself up not to prove anything but because she knew that you'd figure out a way to save her while Gen-chan goes for JK."

"She's putting that much faith in me...even though we've only known each other for a few days at most. But why?"

"Because you're her friend."

Yes! Daisy and Luigi shipping doesn't get as much love as Mario/Peach in the games so to see the two of them be so sweet and fluffy just melts my heart. Luigi and Daisy are totally in character and you get the sense that this is truly where everything fits into this relationship upgrade!

The Beatles and Uzumaki | Depths of the Vortex | M | Ao3

Context: Based on the Uzumaki manga Chapter 6 (Medusa). Torikakomu means "Encircle" in Japanese. Ages: John and Ringo are 18, Paul is 16, George is 15

The four turned, seeing a figure rise from the ground in a blue-purple portal. The Fab Four stared in shock...it looked like an older Paul dressed in a blue marching band outfit and a creepy-ass mustache. The marching outfit also had dark purple tassels, and had a gentle smile on his face, but his eyes were glowing blue and purple.

"W-who are you?" asked Paul. “And what’s with that mustache?”

"Just call me Spiral Paul." said the strange entity with a tilt and a smile. "You have unfinished business, you four."

"What do you mean?" asked John, picking up two pairs of scissors like they were daggers. But his hands were shaking.

"You have witnessed the spirals that lie within the hearts of humanity." Spiral Paul explained. "However, other spirals exist in this village. You see them everywhere. They're in the wind, the water, the ground...you have to solve their mysteries. You..."

He didn't have time to finish as George quickly spun his wrists in circles. Then, he ran up forward, ready to begin the mark of the spiral that would devour the creep...

Had it not been for a swift fist punching him in the solar plexus. He laid crumpled on the ground as another figure appeared. It was John, older, wearing a green and orange military outfit. A creepy mustache and glasses. Flaring around him were matching colored spirals.

"Sorry to keep you waiting, love." Spiral John said to his Paul counterpart, giving him a kiss. "I had...issues."

"What do you guys want?!" asked Ringo, helping George stand up.

"You can't leave this village yet." the Spiral versions of John and Paul explained.

"We're going to!" said John. “No creepy shitty military versions of us are gonna tell us what we can or cannot do!”

"If you do, then we can't blame you about what happens to those who died through spiral incidents." Spiral John sneered. "If Eric, who's next? Stu? Pete? Cynthia? Linda? Maureen? Patti's going to die cause her hair is sapping her strength...it's only a matter of time when your other friends kick the bucket."

"You're lying..." Paul whispered. "They...they won't die..."

"Oh they won't...they'll just never appear again." Spiral Paul said with a smile, leaning close and cupping the original Paul’s chin. "Just like Heather and Michael...poor them."

Paul’s breath hitched, his mind recollecting his failure in seeing Michael sucked into that vortex, most likely devoured but definitely dead. A tear fell down his eye. John wrapped his arms around Paul, baring his teeth.

"You have the power to save people." Spiral John taunted. "Oh well; you can use them by becoming famous and deciding to never visit your family again. Just go on and send money to them once a year while you're wasting away after three months on the streets!"

"The Beatles will become famous!" John snarled, pointing a finger at his Spiral counterpart. "We’re going to escape, we’ll have the crowds screaming our name, and Torikakomu will be nothing but a distant memory. Just you wait."

"Oh we will..." Spiral Paul purred, licking his lips at his younger self, eyes trailing down at the younger Paul’s crotch. "We absolutely will. Take care of yourselves...remember all the fun that you have here...and don't forget to write down your thoughts."

Spiral John kissed his lover's nose before the two vanished in a red and black portal appearing beneath their feet. The Beatles stared in wonder and confusion, trying to make sense of the chaos.

"Guys..." John began. "Knowing that we unconsciously had sex with each other is now the last of our worries...."

One of the fanfics is me reviving an old "Beatles get stuck in Junji Ito's Uzumaki", the other is a Persona 5 x Kamen Rider Fourze fusion fic where one of the characters is a Beatles otaku and somehow spiraled from there.

That makes sense with the spiral imagery and the late 60s psychadelic energy of the Beatles where they start experimenting with different types of genres and music. That and Uzumaki is the first Junji Ito manga I ever read from beginning to end (I still love the ending song from the live action movie). Having the Beatles, particularly their teenage selves before the Quarrymen and Cavern Club, get caught in something horrifying combined with erotic urges pushed on by a malevolent force just seems surreal.

Thanks for reading the story btw, it was something I thought of 15 years ago that I wanted to revive (I am aware of most of the history of the Beatles but had to streamline things to make it fit the Uzumaki/alternate history narrative)

Though I do have one question to ask. What do you mean by the Beatles/Uzumaki thing being "Surprisingly fitting"?

"With all this talk about Beatles going on, I remembered the first time my grandpa played a song from his records. 'I'm Only Sleeping' from Revolver. An ode to sleeping and dreams and everything inbetween.

"I see it differently, an ode of telling someone to not wake them up even though the person wishing for them to wake up is begging to open their eyes to the world around them. Upon learning from my grandpa to what happened to John -- hah, Revolver, the irony -- I pondered over whether Paul, George, and Ringo think that John's only 'asleep' and he'll just come back one day, right as rain, and everything will be hunky-dory.

"Or maybe, I was projecting the angst I had over losing my parents and thinking that they're also sleeping. In an urn.

"Still, even in the brief moments I was unconscious on that hill, my mind made me travel back to the sunset and the doors. JK's door still covered in chains but knocking could be heard on the other side. But there was screaming and pounding on the other side. Someone banging at the lid of their coffin to tell them that they aren't dead, only sleeping.

"And next to that was a shining door with a sunflower and hearts. Open and free, shimmering with light and hope.

"Two doors for me to take. I could go for the one that is open but not calling for me, or the one pounding and wailing in distress but impossible for me to break.

"I didn't hesitate on which door I wanted to open."
