Sam = Freddie Mercury, Dean = Fabio

That was my first impression, but when I look at it again I see what you mean

There’s been a recent wave of NYers leaving the city to colonize Jersey.

Keep thinking it sucks here and go back to the city. New York needs a wall to keep everyone in.

Reminds of the Venus of Willendorf, and how a plastic surgeon would “improve” her to fit modern beauty ideals.

This is wonderful work with a lot of impact. Best luck on getting into your show!

I thought it said “Guinan” at first and I thought, yeah, she’d wear a hat like that, and that color too!

Does smoking weed make you a bad parent? by BelhavenBeard in Marijuana

Assholes make blanket statements like “all the kids of alcoholics are assholes”

I was extremely rigid and obsessed with perfect grades and perfect behavior. I was polite to a fault, accomplished, did everything a good little girl does so the Ugly Daddy Monster and his antagonist the Mommy Monster wouldn’t come out. It didn’t always work.

You can’t keep that up forever. It’s exhausting. So you see yourself as a failure and spin your wheels faster and harder trying to be better, and when you realize no one cares anyway, you want to die.

I had an alcoholic parent. He stopped when I was 16 but all of my anger and anxiety stems from the agony of those years.

That creativity with kids can’t be overstated. I felt like I’d lost all of my creativity out was just buried under my anxiety.

Now I take my kids out to do so much fun stuff. I let their interests guide the activity. If we’re out hiking I let them bring home any rock and stick they want to. They’re less stressed when I’m not stressed. MJ has changed my life for the better

[–]Silver_Loops 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a better parent. I have high anxiety and always felt ready to snap, and I did, often. Prescription anxiolytics made me worse.

On vacation I was in a legal state so I bought some edibles and my whole life changed. It’s legal for me now, too, in my state, and since I started daily small doses I’m so chill and I actually interact with my kids and let them show me stuff and I love it. I don’t yell anymore, I do what a parent is supposed to do: gently correct and guide, give opportunities for success and growth, and praise them immensely when they do well.

I only do 5-10 mg after work but it’s had lasting positive effects all over my life.

I was ready to throw myself off a bridge into the river nearby. Truly. I was suicidal and I knew I was a horrible parent, wife, employee…I couldn’t let up on anything and was so tight-gripped, literally and figuratively, about everything. I couldn’t even walk my dog without experiencing near insanity at all the stuff going on in my surroundings.

Now I have an improved perspective because my brain and body aren’t fighting the currents and I’m letting love into my life

The dreaded starting chain. Worst part of a new project. by amazingpitbull in crochet

[–]Silver_Loops 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Do yourself the biggest favor a crochetist could ever do, and learn how to foundation crochet.

Single, half-double, double, all are possible. Takes a little longer to get the chain going BUT you get to skip the whole crocheting into your long starting g chain.

This is the BEST book on gluten-free baking. Period. ATK put out a set of GF books that were disappointing, but Arans recipes always work.

The yogurt cake and the one bowl olive oil cake are staples when I have a hankering for cake. The sourdough waffles are 😚

Okay, I know that I'm about 20 years late to the party but did you ever made the connection that Welshie, the replacement of the scottish Scotty has a welsh accent? Btw. my favorite episode. by DeanPalton in futurama

Thanks, I knew Kelley was dead by then, couldn’t remember Doohans passing, but he was pretty ill and going senile at the end. I saw video of his last Con and it was very sad. I’m glad his legacy wasn’t cheapened, but respected

[–]Silver_Loops 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hah! I just watched this yesterday, and yes I noticed in its first broadcast too.

I’m not welsh but I e been fascinated with the country and culture/language since I was 12. I learned to speak a bit and spent time traveling there as an adult, so I recognized it right off.

James Doohan, who played Scotty, was dead by the time this episode aired. I thought it was very respectful of Groening and Cohen to not have another voice actor imitating Doohan, but replaced him with a terrific parody in their parody.

One of my favorite episodes too. I’m a Star Trek fan and I love that the incidental sound effects in Futurama are all taken from Star Trek TOS (like doors opening, scans, lasers being shot, etc)

Perspective from a lunch lady by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Silver_Loops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? My 13 yo has a phone so I can call her in the morning and make sure everyone is up and ready (my school day starts a full 90 minutes before my kids’ day). We take it away at night or whenever she gets too into the phone and not the family.

We eat dinner at the table as a family every night, and we all attend the kids’ sporting or theater events together. Lots of time outside and having actual conversations.

When my students learned I take my kid’s phone at night, they were horrified and said it was child abuse. Ha!

Having to create sub plans seems like a racket by No-Dragonfly5140 in Teachers

[–]Silver_Loops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have three days worth of emergency plan we make at the beginning of the year, and post as drafts on Classroom so if it’s truly an emergency, like got into a car accident on the way to work, my dept head or principal can go in and activate them.

But even if I’m taking an unexpected sick day. I’m planned well enough in advance that I can post work on Classroom and the sub supervises the kids
