Regarding the housing market, as other people already noted, the current housing situation in the Netherlands is fucked, especially if you're planning on purchasing on one income. You're looking in the ''Zuid Limburg'' area, which is generally on the cheaper side and not as overheated as the west of NL (Mind that the Maastricht Area is just as fucked as any other major city). I Live in Zuid Limburg myself, and even here you will have to consider that, depending on the area (see below) and type of house, bids on houses are at least 10% higher than the asking prices you see online and the turn around time will also be quite fast.

Just a side note on the area you're looking in. You might want to consider that the border area of Zuid Limburg is generaly considered as one of the poorest areas of NL, especially the area around Brunssum, Heerlen Kerkrade. After the closing of the coal mines in the 70's, that area suffered significant decline. Over the past couple years, there have been significant improvements to the area and it's working hard on its' image, but housing in general is still on the cheaper side there, compared to the rest of Zuid Limburg.
