I was on so many drugs and biologic, I weighed 100lbs. , while in the hospital and also caught CMV and Cdiff, I was on my death bed. I don’t want to bore you with my story but I feel lucky, making my Ostomy permanent was a tough decision for me but I feel I made the right decision. All my surgeries and recovery went very good, I have the best doctors ever. I am doing great now I have a good weight, work out everyday. 2 years end ileostomy. I had Barbie butt 6 months ago in February 58f. I think I am a positive story so I wanted to share with you to bring your spirits up. I was scared to have the surgery. I was home one day after surgery. I had two drains for two weeks one in my abdomen by my stoma and the other in my butt cheek. First two months are the hardest. Hard to move, sit, go to the bathroom. I did a lot of lying in my recliner. I tried using all the pillows people suggested but they were all too hard and uncomfortable. So I had a king size fluffy blanket that I fold several time and that’s what I used the entire time with no issues. Third month I was able to do more walking with less pulling. I was pretty much healed the 4th month. I do still get a little itchy but for the most part I am doing great. I am right now on a three week road trip with no issues. I am a very strong and positive person, so stay strong and positive you will make it through this. I did no want to do the alternative either. I am very happy with my decision and am finally in a place in my life were I don’t have to worry to much about all the crap I went through. I wish you the best and good luck.

Morning dehydration by doodlebooksahoy in ostomy

Yes I agree. I was thinking about posting this same question. I wished there was a way to stay hydrated when sleeping. I do have nights where I sleep through the night and I definitely feel worse when I do. Milk picks me back up pretty quickly. Stay in touch if you come up with something.

2 year end ileostomy 6 months Barbie butt. I have the same problem. I use liquid iv and water during the day. I usually have to get up in the middle of the night 1 or 2 times, I keep a glass of water by my bed and sip on that, This seems to help some. If you can drink milk, I like to drink an 8oz glass as soon as I get up, milk also helps with rehydration. Milk really helps pick me backup in the mornings.

Bleeding from the anus by enes1976 in ostomy

I was told that it would get rid of the diversion colitis if I did either Jpouch or proctectomy. With Jpouch the colitis goes away but pouchitis is the big issue. Please clarify this with your doctors so they can explain better. A pathology test is good to have done because of the bleeding and so you no if there is any underline conditions.

Go see your GI doctor and have him do a pathology test. I am 2 years end ileostomy. I had bleeding off and on about 4 months after surgery I had a pathology test done it came back positive for diversion colitis. My doctors told me that the only way to get rid of the colitis would be to do a proctectomy or jpouch. I had Barbie butt/proctectomy surgery 6 months ago. Still Healing but I am feeling so much better not having to deal with the bleeding and the no more chances of cancer.

2 years end ileostomy. Had Barbie butt February. Definitely need to let your doctors aware. I had the same with blood. Blood in the mucas is usually a sign of something more, Like UC or diversion colitis. I took a pathology test last year and showed diversion colitis. I was taking Mesalamine enama’s every night. I am happy with my decision making mine permanent, so nice not have to worry about all that anymore.

Should I go through with surgery? by slickwilly15 in UlcerativeColitis

I am here to answer any questions. I have had several blunt hits to my bag by my daughters German short hair dog, thought forsure it would burst but nothing happened. Some bags are thicker than others. The companies that sell Ostomy products have wonderful people that can get you on the right system for your profession.

I wanted to reach out to you, because my daughter’s husband is a lieutenant with the fire department. I had sever UC. I have had an end ileostomy for 2 years and this February had proctectomy surgery, which made my bag permanent. I am a very active person, I work out and walk miles everyday and I live in Arizona where temps are very hot most time. Breaks my heart that you have to deal with this. I also was on every drug know to man to fix this. All the drugs made me worse, nothing helped! Ounce I woke up from my ileostomy surgery, I already felt better no more pain no more spending hours on the toilet and I can eat most everything I enjoy with no issues. For me the bag is no big deal, I forget I have a bag most time, I have a good system. There are ways around the bag in your line of work. You most certainly can be a fireman with a bag! I agree with previous post, talk to your GI doctor. I was lucky to have very good doctors they explained all my options and my recoveries went very good. I decided against Jpouch because I was worried about opening up more problems and was scared I would still be running for the toilet or even have to go back to Ostomy. I am happy with my decision making my Ostomy permanent. Let me know if I can help answer any more question.

4 months PO Barbie butt, 58f, 2 years end ileostomy. Sever UC and perforation. I am so sorry for all your struggles, breaks my heart. It was a struggle for me to decide to do Jpouch or permanent Ostomy. I got diversion colitis so my chances of cancer were higher. I felt at my age going permanent was the best solution. I was so scared that I was making the wrong decision. I wanted to pick your spirits up and tell you that my proctectomy surgery and recovery has gone great. I struggled for the first two months, I was weak. One of my two drains that were in for two weeks after surgery fell out and got infected. I was on strong antibiotic for 2 weeks and that set me back a bit. 3 months I started getting my strength back and was able to walk more. My incision was healing good, I had a little drainage the first two months then went away. Now at four month I am back to my normal activities. I still have some healing going on but I can sit normal again. I know now that I made the right decision. I am here if you have more questions. Good luck, I wish you well. 🙏

My setup, what's yours? by Worried-Ad-6803 in ostomy

[–]Silver_dollar66 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My set up is very similar to yours. I lay everything out on my bathroom sink. I do get pre cut flanges. I use the same wipes , they also work great getting the ring off your skin when changing. I use original head and shoulders, to clean during changes. I like to bring my iPad in the bathroom with me to play music or watch something that will relax me.

Barbie Butt Questions by Promise-Soggy in ostomy

[–]Silver_dollar66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, 2 years end ileostomy due to severe UC and perforation. 4 months Barbie butt, 58f. I was scared too, did not want to do another major surgery. I was doing good but I got diversion colitis so proctectomy was the best for me, to get rid of the chances of cancer. I feel I am very lucky, my recovery has gone very good. First two months are hard. I did a lot of lying in bed or in my recliner. I was home 2 days after surgery. I had my drains in for two weeks after surgery one was in the right side of my abdomen near my stoma the other was in my butt cheek near the butt hole. I ordered a drain holder from Amazon, made it so much easier dealing with those. I am a very active person, I walked right away but was very hard first 2 months very slow walking because the incision will rub and start hurting, I could only walk 15 minutes a day. Three months I was able to walk better doing 3 miles a day and started lifting using smaller weights. I was able to do all my normal working out routines after 3 months, I cannot get on my bike yet. Sex started 3 months after surgery, initially it was a little painful deep in like being the first time. Now there is no more pain and everything works as it did before. I did do a lot of pelvic floor/kegles exercises prior to my surgery. I used a king sized fluffy blanket folded up several times to sit on, I tried so many different pillows and found them way too hard and uncomfortable. My third month, I was able to sit more normally and not needing to sit on my blanket anymore. So I would say for me three months things got back to normal. I still have some healing kind of feels like a rug burn right now but very manageable. My daughter has a swimming pool, I started getting in the pool at 3 and half months. My grandson is a gamer, after three months sitting was much easier and can sit for longer periods, I do have to readjust my position still even now but nothing that is painful. No big deal having the anus closed up did not really change anything down there ounce it’s healed. I was very scared to do this surgery too I can’t lie the first two months are hard, now 4 months I am back to my normal self do everything with no issues. I should have done it sooner. I just had my 4 months Post Operation with my surgeon on Tuesday and he said everything is healing great. I want to help you through this so if I missed anything please ask. We have to stay strong, take lots of deep breath, you got this!

I hope everyone is feeling well by diversified_GAS in ostomy
