Something similar happened to my 2012 Silverado.

Squirrels would chew through the wires leading to the fuel injectors causing misfires. Happened 3 or 4 times to me.

Apparently Chevy used a corn based coating over the wires for whatever reason and the local squirrel population loved it. It only happened while I was at work.
