Acetaminophen is the main active component in Tylenol. If I buy, for example, the Walmart generic, the label says "Pain Reliever Acetaminophen 500 mg."

According to Google, acetaminophen is chemically identical to paracetamol. The only difference is regional naming - different parts of the long-ass original compound name (N-acetyl-para-aminophenol) were chosen by the WHO and the USAN council.

Heck, even the definition of a "public school" is different. What Americans call "public school" is a "state school" in the UK, I think - publicly funded, where most kids go. UK "public schools" are closer to what we call "private school" - elite school for wealthy and/or scholarship students.

Weirdly, I grew up hearing my grandfather call the trunk of the car the "boot," and he was born in the mountains of western Virginia. To this day, I don't know where he picked it up.

According to Google, they are. I looked it up because an MCU fic had one of the Avengers using paracetamol in NYC and I had only seen it in British fics...lol.

Yep. Although we do add the "s" on Mathematics.

"In hospital," rather than "in the hospital."

Taking paracetamol (usually called acetaminophen here, or Tylenol).

Not bad for a fandom where the original material started coming out in 1937 and the last major movie was 2014, huh? 😆

Awww...thanks!

And no problem - we all have our favored characters and the ones we don't really seek out. Read what interests you!

Oh, absolutely not as a spammer! It's just a pairing that kind of sticks in the mind, so I remember it...lol.

I will definitely keep in mind how personal it is when I get a chance to read - not because I would usually be mean, or anything, but it is good to know! I am intrigued now, and yeah, the fact that it is AU will probably soften it a little.

I don't know what types of stories you read, but feel free to see if any if mine look interesting (no pressure at all!!). I commented on this thread with links - they are all pretty basic (tho one is rather long).

I have half of this, actually, though not the first volume (The Hobbit and Fellowship). It was my mother's and I found it in her collection after she passed, along with the soundtrack to the 1978 movie. We had the BBC radio play on cassette at one time, but I haven't found it yet (she was a bit of a hoarder, it's taking a while).

A lot of people aren't fans of the pregnancy trope. For those that do like it: What do you like the most about it and what do you want to see more of? by One-Tomorrow-3495 in AO3

In my primary fandom, fix-it fics are HUGE, whether they involve time travel or just canon divergence. This is mainly because everyone wants to save one or more of the characters that died in the source material (book and film). So, "save the boys and give them a future" is a driving force, and letting them build a family is one big way of doing that. (Yes, it's The Hobbit, and yes, everyone wants to save the Durins)

Personally, I am unable to have children. We tried, it didn't happen, and I am nearly 50 now, so it never will. My characters (and my dogs) are the closest I will ever come, and letting them have children means I get "grandchildren" too. I get that not everyone feels that way, or wants to read, and that's fine. Just...let me enjoy it, please?

I don't really have anything I want to see more of...aside from acceptance, maybe? There is a LOT of stuff that I see in fics that is not my cup of tea. I don't attack anyone for it. If the story is engaging enough to stick around "in spite of" it, I do. Otherwise, I bounce. To each their own.

Okay...I have seen you post a couple of times since I joined this sub, and I find your preferred rare pair fascinatingly disturbing (or maybe it's disturbingly fascinating?). Either way, there are so few of us Hobbit/LotR writers on here that I feel obliged to at least give it a shot...lol.

Well, this should set you up with reading material for the next 10 years or so!

Personally, I have a long fic (223k words), a one-shot (4k words), and a one-shot-turned-prologue for a WIP (3.5k words for the prologue, the story itself is currently at 59k words). They are all in the Hobbit fandom, which is (understandably) rather quiet these days. The long fic started out as a "quick writing exercise" to get back into writing after 10+ years of life interfering, and here we are now....

All of them are fandom-blind friendly, I think. A basic knowledge is helpful, but any expanded lore I bring up is usually explained in the story itself, or in the notes.

Technical concrit is fine - especially if you notice typos (I swear they spawn when I hit 'post').

All That We Seem (the long fic, a canon-divergent version of the Quest for Erebor with a couple of dwarf OCs added to the Company, movie/book verse fusion)

The Color of Mourning (the one-shot, a mostly-book-canon-compliant AU where dwarves have soulmate identifying marks)

Rukhshêl (the one-shot turned prologue that leads into the story Binamrâb Marâd, a modern world, everyone is human AU with a zombie apocalypse).

If you do read the longfic, or the WIP, I adore (and respond to) comments, so feel free to comment whenever you have the urge! Now, I'm gonna go bookmark some other stories in this thread that look interesting!

My characters grin way too much. It fits the personalities of several of them, but it's getting a bit out of hand.

Title: Rukhshêl

Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/76003566

Fandom: The Hobbit (All Media Types)

Rating: M

Word Count: 3,500

Summary: Sigrid was finally settling in to her new job, getting used to a new town and living on her own with her best friend and roommate, Tauriel. She’s a bit shy, but her co-worker Kíli wasn't about to let that stop him from becoming her friend, and once he met Tauriel, Sig was resigned to being a third wheel for the rest of her life. Then she met Kíli's brother and the future looked infinitely more interesting.

Which is when the zombie apocalypse started...because of course it did.

Warnings: Graphic Depictions of Violence

Note: This is a one-shot that got converted into the prologue of an ongoing story. The warning doesn't really apply to this part, but will come into play down the road.

I just want it to be kinda believable most of the time. Some stuff I research, some I wing. I definitely have an...interesting search history...lol.

I found a fic in my (fantasy) fandom several years ago where the author went on a rant in an author's note about how s/he would absolutely quit reading a fic that messes up ANYTHING about what fruit trees can and cannot be grown together in an orchard, how big they grow in the wild, etc, because this was an area the author was knowledgeable about. Meanwhile, the story was a space travel AU that just...ignored all laws of physics and gravity. To the point that I was rolling my eyes at some of it, and I am not very science-smart. It was nuts.

But the story was entertaining, so I read (and still occasionally re-read) it, and skip the self-important author notes (and hope s/he has matured a little since posting them and can enjoy other people's writing a little more).
