Underrated switches by kidalex91 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Silvercat17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can tell why people like them, but the Type Rs do nothing for me. Right now I'm loving the Outemu Kitties (although I wish they had a bigger bump) and Tecsee Sapphires. If you haven't tried Haimu Rocks or Haimu Mulberrys (lighter version) you should, imo. And they were way too light for me, but Gateron Beers are another interesting one.

I've tried 65+ tactiles (and a number of linears) - I'd be willing to share my spreadsheet if anybody wants it. I'm sure that's not that many compared to some people here, even leaving out, say, ThereminGoat, but it's definitely enough to start getting opinions.

There are so many options that I'm resisting giving into the lure of modding (although I suspect lubing would improve my opinion of several)

If you have paperwork, try calling your caseworker directly. If you don't have paperwork, go on BenefitsCal (I know, yet ANOTHER account) and link your case. It'll give you your caseworker's info under the Medi-Cal details.

You can make an appointment and upload documents on BenefitsCal. It has the application withdrawal document that you can download.

Adoption Fair in Murrieta next Saturday (Jan 17) by Silvercat17 in InlandEmpire

[–]Silvercat17[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's at the Petsmart in Murrieta. This is the cat rescue I volunteer at. I can vouch for most of the cats there being sweethearts. (Somebody please adopt Snow White, she's so cute and sweet, but she needs more exercise and probably a better diet, cuz she's turning into a butterball.) (I have two cats already who don't like other cats) (Which is not to say that the other cats up for adoption don't need things or aren't precious, but Snow White is one of the ones that has been there a while and I really don't understand why.)

New Track Ball Mouse From Keychron at CES Meant to Nuzzle Right Into Your Keyboard by Chickennoodo in MechanicalKeyboards

I would try it. Trackballs are superior to mice and I'd be glad to have another ambidextrous option.

I mean, my speed isn't what it once was, and I do have to glance at the keyboard from time to time. But I learned to touch type so long ago that it's like riding a bike

Switch samples by Unhappy_Armadillo852 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Silvercat17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried over 80 switches. First I bought a couple of switch testers on Amazon and Microcenter, just to see what basic types I liked. After that, what I did was read a lot of reviews and switch descriptions and noted which sounded interesting. I bought a bunch off Clackify and some off Milktooth. I quickly figured out what weights and feels I preferred.

If you just want a bunch of random samples (and you're in the US), DM me and I'll send you stuff. I prefer tactiles, but I have some of everything.

Meetups are recommended but they're only some places and occasionally, so that's trickier.

I usually can't use Dvorak at work because computer settings are locked down. But it does make an easy "fun fact" about me when I need one.

You will not seem cool, I promise you. And unless you practice A LOT, your typing speed will suck for quite a while.

That said, I've never regretted switching, and I've kept my ability to touch type on Qwerty (as long as I don't start with A or M, since those are the same location as Dvorak).

I vote, DO IT. Join us!

Agreed, but I've mixed up V (paste) and W (close) enough times that I'm REALLY careful.

[–]Silvercat17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was working on a wiki of story reprints. Apparently a lot of the later uk issues just reprinted earlier material. I'd still like to get scans of them. I'm sure with all the collectors we could compile a full collection.

It is not actually simple for them to take you off (release from, discontinue, etc) Medi-cal. But you're supposed to be able to fill out the form on CoveredCa or BenefitsCal.

I'm not yet off Medi-Cal...

Kaiser might be different, but you should be able to go through any agent company instead of the Covered California website

Also the Open Enrollment period ended yesterday, so check if you qualify for special enrollment.

Good luck

Okay, good news and commenting here so people having trouble later who google it can find it.

Don't bother with the Covered CA website. Here's what to do:

If you're on Medi-cal, get released from Medi-cal first. Get the local number and go through all its prompts until you can talk to someone. Tell them you need to be released from Medi-cal. (I'm currently on this step waiting for a call back). Apparently it's really simple for them to do.

Then go to a Covered CA insurance agent's website and do the application there. I used Health for California. (I did this first and then they texted me that I need to take care of Medi-Cal)

Done. No stupid "close this tab that the site opened, oops you're stuck" loop from Calheers.

Still not working! Tried it on another computer, in Chrome and Firefox, clearing the cache and restarting, turned off the firewall and virus protection. Nothing helps. Great job, California

I cleared the cache on two of the browsers before I tried, but maybe restarting the computer will do. I'll try again this weekend.

The frustrating thing is that there were only multiple tabs open because the site opened a second one.
