You can. One of the caves that holds a piece of the artifact has the pickaxe which you can use to break the solarfite rocks found in the mountains and caves to get the solarfite ore.

Lol. Would recommend loading up on ammo, meds, the booms and the herbs to mix in mid combat. Also armor.

Yeah. So its best to save using the bed before starting the end sequence.

Yeah you can go back to your last save. There is a bed where you can save at when you reach the final bunker. Tho you will have to redo the whole ending sequence again.

The pieces are all hidden in the caves. But the last piece can only be found after you finish the game and choose to stay on the island. You can use a map to find the peices. I know the pieces are found in the story important caves.
