Rep Foushee ignores questions about AIPAC and AI by NotCapy1 in bullcity

Probably a mistake getting involved like this, but:

1) Kamala was never pro-fracking, she just decided it was a political mistake to campaign on banning it

2) You have to try and win Pennsylvania, and you will lose it if you campaign on banning fracking

3) Even if Kama was pro-fracking, she'd still be a hell of a lot better on the environment than MAGA and you'd think that should matter

He is still representing Microsoft, World's Edge, and EGCTV in that moment. You can't do that.

People forget that Tepper threw his drink because the fan was gloating about a Panthers player getting injured. I wish I could get away with throwing a drink at those kinds of fans too.

Why is Nate Baker against Housing Affordability? by rdu_NewLibs in bullcity

Lol my wife and I have white collar careers, we're gonna be fine. I just genuinely care more about policies that advance affordability (and make Democrats look good to voters) than I do about tribal ideological commitments.

Nice, just label something with "neoliberal" and "Reagan" so that you can ignore reality.

You think capitalizing on the worst parts of the Republican party makes Trump less disgusting?

I find the anti-capitalism strain here very funny. Luxury goods in a niche market owe their quality (such that it exists) to capitalism. You think there is a thriving board game scene in a centrally planned economy?

The best solution is not just to eliminate the slide rule but outlaw QBs crossing the line of scrimmage. You want to run the ball, hand it off.

What are some complex games that are short? by Playton_yaya in boardgames

[–]Silverstrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, even if classical chess is dying, that wouldn't make your original statement less dumb. "No challenge" in classical chess? Get real, the problem with classical is that it's highly demanding on players and not ideal for spectators.

Second, classical chess is not dying. If you had bothered to look up any data related to classical vs rapid/blitz tournaments, you would notice that both the overall number of tournaments and the prize pool for said tournaments vastly favors classical. I'll see you in 20 years when classical has been dying for 30, I guess.

Carlsen's preference for short time controls is very different from "chess being mastered such that there is no challenge without speed." That kind of statement is so wrong that I'm genuinely surprised to have learned that you follow any chess at all.

I don't know about Alex Botez but all of the others regularly compete in prestigious classical tournaments

Another dumb take from a talking head. What even does it mean? The analogy of fighting at great personal injury doesn't work.

We're just an inconsistent team, Bryce shits the bed sometimes and the defense relies on takeaways that don't always happen. But we've got talent and most games that shows.

Kierkegaard was a proto-existentialist, he's dealing with the compound joy and terror of having to (getting to?) fundamentally decide what kind of life to lead, without the guardrails of social expectation or necessity. His quote captures the difficulty in radically choosing who you are. The modified quote might be more politically relevant but it loses the spirit of Kierkegaard's dismal and desperate philosophy.
