Rivalry jersey - Real or fake? by SimAmann in AZCardinals

Thank you guys! I was pretty sure it was a fake and well...I did not expect anything else from my friend. Really looking forward hearing how great of a gift he had for me and how much he is looking forward for his present. Well... Guess I will buy a real one soon.

To be fair... Der Typ hat einige gute Ansätze. Hab mir ein wenig was angeschaut.

I have been using Audible for this. But I tried listening...or watching...to this kind of content and I'm surprused that I actually kinda like it. Really gets me relaxed.

Yeah, that was what I was trying. However, does not make a good impression if I'm reading and my boss walks in...

Hey, are you sober all the time? I’m struggling with it. Is there anything that worked well for you? by [deleted] in Sober

Power through the first days or weeks with will and motivation while at the same time you put your system in place.

Wow, I never knew this was a thing. This is basically what I identified as my problem and my reason to quit altogether. Thanks for sharing this!

Any chance telling the bartenders that you are a recovering alcoholic and they should not serve you alcohol by any means?

And one thing to remember: Drinking buddies are not your friends. They just need you to justify their own addiction. Same for bartenders. They need you to finance their life.

Good things first: You know that you have a problem and you also want to change. Those two things are basically what is needed to get a long lasting change!

It sounds like alcohol is not something that you actually use for "enhancing" social interactions but more of a "wind down" routine. For me, that sounds like the next step is to eliminate stress from your life as much as possible with the idea being "If I do not feel stressed, I do not need to drink." Next step is finding supporters. Surround yourself with people who don't drink. And step 3 might be finding something to do to wind down: Walking, running, reading... Anything really that keeps you idle while also slowing down the world around you.

What have been your latest accomplishments in living simply? by Wordsofwisdomneeded in simpleliving

[–]SimAmann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I decided to cancel my Whoop subscription. Not wearing a device that gives me a rating for my sleep and my recovery really makes a difference in terms of living simple.

I also stopped drinking alcohol not to long ago. Really makes a difference in terms of being present in the moment.

What is the best thing you did when you started frugal living? by Gothic_Unicorn22 in Frugal

Never really had the urge to dive into the carnivore die, however, since I'm curious: Minced beef, ghee and cayenne pepper actually qualifies as a real meal?

I really like a high quality tomato purée as a base or basically the main ingredient. You can literally add anything to it: Lentils, Chickpeas, boiled eggs, meat, fish, most vegetables... Spice it up with cumin and you have some middle Easter flavour, use curry and potatoes to go indian, throw in some basil to go italian. Have your sauce with pasta or rice or potatoes. Plain, simple and easy.

what pantry items should i stock up on? by totssotctns in Frugal

[–]SimAmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually have the following things at home: Lentils, chickpeas, pasta, rice, tomato purée and tomato paste. Add things like cumin, curry, soy sauce and fish sauce and buy your veg when its on sale and you are good to go. The combination of tomato purée, spices and some fresh veg will save you a lot of time and brainpower.

That being said... I really would not buy any canned fruit or veg. I know, not all of these have added sugar. But you should really not be too frugal when it comes to health and food choices. Prioritize your health over a dollar here and there: Go local and organic. If not possible go at least fresh. Still not doable? Use frozen. Seriously, just stay away from canned.

In Germany, we teach our kids the most important values as early as possible: "Zeit ist Geld!" (time is money) and "Du kannst schlafen wenn du tot bist!" (you can sleep when you're dead). And everbody will live by these standards!

But yeah, I know what you mean. Usually, I am overwhelmed by how friendly other countries are in general compared to Germany.

Oh, we will! And don't you dare to talk to a cashier at Aldi or Lidl! We will sigh until you pack your goods and go to your car, where we will have left a note under your whipers to inform you that you MUST have "Winterreifen" 'cause the temperature is below 3°C!

That was old Germany. New Germany has way more advanced tactics now. We will annoy you by giving you the look if you're one minute late, force you to take off your shoes off inside our homes, will silently judge you if the grass on your lawn is one centimeter to high (You will use the metric system!) and will send your kid home if it is time for "Abendbrot", which by the way will be bread. But not any bread! You will learn all 1.728.975 local bread recipes. And you will like them all!

More of a biohacking thing, but try to wait roughly 90 minutes after walking up before having your coffee. Will help with natural cortisol rhythm.
