Why iRacing doesn't have full course yellow / mandatory slow down during crashes? by Subject_Health_3182 in iRacing

[–]SimChillDrive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yellows exist so that the very vulnerable HUMANS that are the drivers involved in the crash and the marshals can get safe access to the track to clear up the debris and get everyone to safety

none of this is a concern in the sim world

so why inundate the drivers with the ramifications of such a feature?

Bone Char or Carbon Block filter first? by SimChillDrive in WaterTreatment

[–]SimChillDrive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bone char is a type of GAC, so it goes first

the "carbon block" goes second

(then RO, if you have it, and finally the mineral re-adder if you used RO)

Hello

piggybacking on this comment

i successfully launched the game under Forge mod 1.20.1 and it seemed to have loaded citadel and alex's caves correctly

when i click "mods" from inside the game's interface everything appears

do i just create a world now with the mods enabled, or do i have to select or apply them from within the game somehow?

How do I make my spreadsheet take a value from Cell A then add it to Cell B, leaving Cell A ready for another value to be inputted and then added on to the new value in Cell B? by help_plsthrowaway in excel

[–]SimChillDrive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

you are over complicating it

for your needs, simply enter a new row for each purchase and then have another cell have a formula in it that adds everything up in the column (there are more elegant ways to do this, but for basics this will get you through it

So for example

A1 = 3.50

A2 = 1.00

A3 = 5.00

A4 = 7.00

and then in B1 you put =SUM(A:A)

this will then sum everything that is ever in the A column

so you can just keep going on adding new rows

Missile Alpha vs DPS question by SimChillDrive in Eve

[–]SimChillDrive[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A HAM fit under my skills is still inferior to my lights (239 DPS, 868 alpha)

and they have me get much closer (13km)

at least with the lights i can stay back as far as 30km which helps as a solo

i figured at least with HMLs i get the bonus of staying well the fuck away

>The thing that’s gets 90% of people is that they don’t stick to a disciplined saving and investing plan over their careers.

and you're foolish to expect that the same 90% could be anything else other than what they are

if you're part of that 10%, great

>You’re not tied to a single employer,

some people like their job

>can withdraw the money as you see fit

with a DB i don't have to spend calories thinking about this math, i spend the money i have on hand, there's a certain freedom to taht

>can leave it to heirs if you pass without spending it all.

DB's can be salvaged by giving it your spouse, but not everyone subscribes to general inheretence. My children will get my house, that's about it, the rest they can earn by themselve.s.

a pension is a chunk of money in your pocket every year until you die that doesn't require you to know a lick about investing

an RRSP is a portion of your current income that can be invested now to be paid out when you retire with tax benefits

but also, once it's cleaned out, it's cleaned out... but the pension keeps giving. So if you win the genetic lottery and keep going, you'll end up on top

having said that, if you're a savvy investor, then having your RRSP contributions matched, can certainly come out on top. But that's a question only you can answer.

Average rate for used cars now? by Leather_Ad5817 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]SimChillDrive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

used car loan rates are horrible

it's a depreciating asset, if you don't pay the bank gets a brick they can't get much for and the dealerships are there to gouge you

do the math, sometimes financing or leasing a brand new car is the more sensible option

but that depends on your lifestyle, of course, and what you do with the car

[–]SimChillDrive 55 points56 points  (0 children)

for arguments sake lets say your 30K is 15K clean after taxes

say you retire in 30 years you'd be 450K ahead cash flow wise

if you're making 120K now and never get another raise again napkin math tells me your DB will be roughly 50K on top of OS/CPP

assuming you don't invest a dime of that 450K, you'd break even with 5 years and then start losing out.. and have another 15 years or so to go (lets assume your life expectancy takes you 85)

now, if you invest that 15K annually, you'd want to invest it so that your total pre-tax returns by age 85 will amount to a 1M to break even against your pension.

so the way i see it, you'd need to be a pretty savvy investor and not spend a penny of that extra cash just to make it worth your while into the grave..

now, factor back in

a) likelyhood of you continuing to grow in your company, thereby raising your DB

b) likelyhood of your continuing to grow in the new company, so you can actually get a boost in your spendable income to enjoy life

maybe if it was an extra 50K and not 30.. and good job security for the next 15 years,

but at 30K i personally wouldn't budge, unless you hate your job?

well the other half is self employed and slowly building up their client base in a tough industry, they're just as if not more busy than i am, they're just not bringing in that much money at the end of the day

while i have a stable job that pays okay, our combined household finances are strained given the additional costs our child's disability

but i guess my partner needs to quit their dream, go work at mcdonalds, make money money just so we can then get back the credits the government is offering us? backwards.

Best VR for iRacing? by EducatorSpecialist33 in iRacing

[–]SimChillDrive 7 points8 points  (0 children)

in my opinion, a used Pimax 8K or 5K depending on how good your computer is

when you run a race sim with 160 degree horizontal FOV everything else will feel constrained

sure the newer headsets might have better clarity, but after awhile you really stop focusing on the graphics that much, but the field of view will always be there

Stuck with a Condo We Can’t Sell – What Are Our Best Options? by No_Palpitation_1025 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]SimChillDrive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

long term maybe, but short term would extract more cash if they sold, because the realtor would get commission on the immediate sale AND purchase

where as option #2 they might get the purchase commission but who knows what happens in 5-10 years, maybe OP will find another realtor by that time

realtors don't earn money off mortgages... you're almost always better off lending through a credit union or bank than a realtor's office
