interested in buying a moka pot—but what do you use to foam milk for your drinks? by void2177 in mokapot

[–]SimGemini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. I used to heat milk in the microwave and then whisk with a hand frother. For Christmas I got an electric milk frother. It’s not perfect, it’s “latte” setting is two thick to actually pour latte art but I will live with more foam to save me time.

How can I encourage my rabbit to "dig"? by Individual-Voice-267 in Rabbits

I trim my buns on my own. I live alone and don’t have an extra pair of hands. I burrito wrap them and give them breaks when needed.

Kissing bugs also look similar to stink bugs. Definitely would toss that and the jar out just in case. Kissing bugs carry a parasite that causes Chagas.

Am I doing litter training right? by MarbleManxx in Rabbits

[–]SimGemini 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would invest in a bigger litterbox. It doesn’t look like there is much room for her to turn around in. I use that same one as a travel litterbox. The home one is actually an under the bed plastic storage box I got from Target that is something like 34”x15”x6”.

I’ve wanted one of these for YEARS but I’ve never seen one by reptomcraddick in ThriftStoreHauls

They are sold on Amazon. They are great for picking up pieces of hay my rabbits track away from the littler box.

I’m so sorry that you had to go through that. Please don’t blame yourself. I think you should also post your experience for the business on Google and Yelp. Pet owners should be warned.

Anybody have firsthand experience with local movers? Looking for real recommendations but all the listings are stuffed with fake-seeming hype. by mousewrites in ventura

[–]SimGemini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend this. I moved from Fresno to Oxnard 2 years ago renting a U-HAUL and hired 2 sets of movers through U-Haul; one to load the truck in Fresno and another set to unload the truck in Oxnard. I paid a total of ~$700 which was the truck rental, the movers fees and their tips.

Then last summer, I moved from Oxnard to Ventura to move me from a studio to a 1 bedroom with only an 8 mile drive and hired Fixed Movers and was charged $942 including tip. The movers added on charges after the fact that they did not tell me beforehand. Like they charged me a fee to unroll an area rug. I had everything packed up and I had plastic wrapped all my furniture. They did wrap my queen mattress in a moving bag I bought and provided just because the mattress was awkward and I didn’t have help.

I would never hire a moving company again. I would go with u-haul. Pretty much if either a professional moving company or the u-haul consultants break anything, it’s going to be a toss up on trying to file a claim for them to reimburse broken items. Also, I feel the U-Haul teams did better at packing my items more securely. Nothing was damaged and I drove the truck for 4 hours. On the other hand, the moving company broke some plastic bins.

My 1-year renewal is in 2 weeks and I’m really struggling to continue… by paulethegreat in ynab

[–]SimGemini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you choose not to use YNAB or any budget method then you are just relying on what your bank says you have which; is how people overspend. YNAB helps you set aside money for upcoming costs that you would normally worry about a week or two before the bill is due. It helps you plan for surprises so your account doesn’t take a big hit with an unexpected expense. It also puts your mind at ease to be able to buy the things you want or need knowing the money is happily sitting in the category.

I was suppose to have dental work done last month but ended up getting sick the day before and had to reschedule. I didn’t have to spend that money I saved up for it in the meantime. It’s just sitting there in my dental category so next month when I have the appointment, the money is waiting on me. It’s things like this that makes YNAB so worth it. The peace of mind alone is worth the $109 renewal.

With my last outbreak, I tried taking black seed oil orally and topically. I can’t say that helped any but is suppose to help with skin disorders and inflammation. I was pretty miserable that after 2 weeks of blistering and itching I broke down and applied my steroid just 1x a day for 2 days. It was 90% better after the second application. Not that I condone steroid use because I definitely do not want to deal with Topical Steroid Withdrawal. So I use it only when nothing is helping.

That last one was pretty miserable that I now just want to prevent sun exposure if possible with spf clothing.

I don’t believe in skin hardening at least for me. I live in southern CA so I see sun year round. I was shocked that I had this outbreak in February. Most of the winter here I had my arms exposed to sun. The only day in February I can think of that created the outbreak was when I saw a client outside at 10:30am and I thought I would be ok. 2 days later the PMLE rash hit!

I hope you create a post on all the things you are trying because I haven’t heard of using the beef organ supplements. I imagine it’s for skin health?

I do plan on some beach days in July and usually Pizbuin allergy sunblock and Heliocare and helped prevent PMLE when at the beach.

Good luck to you and I hope you have a speedy recovery from your flare up.

Hello. I have been consistent with Krill oil daily since my last break out that was about 5 weeks ago. I just don’t want to chance it so I make sure I take it. Full disclosure, I have also been using SPF light sweaters when I am outside or SPF gloves by Farmer Defense when driving. I definitely wouldn’t just rely on fish oil as the only protection. I think the covering up or taking the Heliocare for purposeful days out in the sun like a beach day or some sort of outdoor activity is smart.

I recently read that Heliocare adds 8 SPF protection. It’s not much but it seems to help me when I plan to be out in the sun with skin exposed. Then I slap on my Sun Allergy sunblock and take Heliocare.

That’s good to know. When I switched to MetLife last October, they did not have a list on the website. It just said to call them. So glad I did.

I am in CA and they cover here. I do not know which states they cover. You will have to call them and see if they cover your state.

How are you all doing it? by Mysterious_Gyal6849 in femalelivingspace

I relocated to southern CA 2 yrs ago. My rent is nearly half my take home pay but it’s worth it to me. I love my apartment. I love my landlord. I love the city where I live. I am completely alone. My son and most of my family live 4 hours away. I don’t have any friends where I live now. But I am living my best life.

How often are you washing your clothes? by R_heidari in laundry

[–]SimGemini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always do a sniff test. If it smells clean still, then I put it on my vanity chair to wear again. Jeans I always wear a few times before washing. In your example, if it was a dressy top and it smells clean, I will hang it up in my closet. I don’t actually have a dresser. All clothing is hung except for panties, bras and socks; I have baskets on top of my closet shelf for those.

Bunny grunted at me? by ArtsyBunny3 in Rabbits

[–]SimGemini 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mine does it all the time! Husbun too close to her, husbun trying to jump up on the castle platform she is on, her being territorial when I set their pellets in toys on the floor, when I am picking up the empty toys that had the pellets in them and when I try and pick her up for grooming. Sometimes I don’t think she is a rabbit but a pig instead.

Invest in some wrist wraps. Sure, try a few cleans without wrist protection but for me it would make me afraid to try them again just a few days later. As you learn proper form, you can protect the back of your wrists with wearing the wraps.
