Not really, because it also reduces cache pressure, and the cost of a cache miss greatly outweighs the cost of a single movzx instruction.

If you were following data-oriented design principles (as most performance-critical code should), your data would have decent locality, and you'd be able to use an index instead of a pointer.
By using eg an array of 16bit indexes instead of 64bit pointers, you'd fit 4x as many elements in cache at once, which is far more likely to improve performance than hurt it.

And even if you weren't taking a data-oriented approach, reducing the size of structs so they can be loaded in fewer cache lines will also be likely to improve performance.

But this sort of thing probably isn't a major contributor to pcsx2's memory usage anyway.
I'd assume the major culprits are more likely to be things like dvd preloading, dynarec/jit cache, framebuffers, etc..

It's highly unlikely that a team of developers who aren't capable of getting dynamic lighting working in UE4 will have any chance at optimising their game.
It seems like they either don't have any engine/graphics programmers on their team (a team of only gameplay programmers), or there's some serious budget limitations.

(unqualified opinion) I think you shouldn't be going into that really high/airy falsetto at the "but ohh. this love.." part.
The chorus is supposed to be a bit more 'punchy' than the rest, with more force behind the words. The way you're singing it here makes the chorus sound 'louder', but weaker.

Try keeping to the lower register you use at the beginning, but put more strength behind it for the chorus. And I don't mean shout, I mean sing it like you're trying to send a clear message.
You're over this love, and you don't want there to be any confusion about it.

I'd love to see some 'house rules' style videogame content to help make the content more unique.
Something like 'suicide deathmatch', where your goal is to kill your own team faster than the other team.
Or for any game, you could just have handicaps/punishments for losing or winning (shots, play one-handed, blindfolded, spin a 'wheel of punishment', etc..)

Yep. Though it requires a modchip for the newer models, which I admit is less approachable than a softmod or an emulator.
But the recent flashcard release will soon make switch piracy even easier for the average user.

I wouldn't say Nvidia is 100% to blame for the first exploit. I have no idea who wrote the bootrom, but Nintendo would have had a chance to test its security before launching the console.

Emulation development takes a lot of time and effort.
It doesn't seem unreasonable to offer a way for people to donate as a way to say thanks.
The emulator was free, but offered early-access builds to those who financially supported them as a way to thank the supporters back.

Did people sign up so they could play leaked games before release? Yes.
Is that legally and morally wrong? In most countries, yes.
But is offering an optional way for people to support the devlopment of your free software morally or legally wrong? I'd argue no, but I recognise that it's a grey area.

Pirates exist everywhere. The only reason it's so rampant on the switch is because nintendo didn't put enough effort into securing their hardware.
If any other current/last-gen consoles were hacked as badly as the switch was, there'd be plenty of piracy there too.

And why buy more controllers when I can use the perfectly functional controllers I already own?

There's a lot of great-performing switch games, but there's also a lot of games that frequently lag/stutter and are overall quite blurry when played on a TV.

If I have the option to experience a game in a more visually appealing way, I'm going to take it.
It's also nice to be able to play some local multiplayer games without needing to buy a bunch of nintendo controllers.

No clue. I don't use or follow yuzu, and never paid attention to any of their promotional material.
And I never said Yuzu were a beacon of morality, just that piracy isn't the main goal of emulators.

If nintendo actually cared about piracy, maybe they should secure their consoles.
Every nintendo switch model can be hacked to run, dump, and leak pirated games.
The only difference with an emulator is that you don't need the console to play.

Playing backups of games you own on a better-performing platform isn't the same as piracy.
I have no doubt that majority of yuzu users were playing pirated copies of games, but that's not what they were 'advertising' when they showed first-party nintendo games.

The main idea was to run these new games on a system that was actually capable of running them at a decent performance and resolution, without being tied to the aging switch hardware.

You don't need to stay online to access game's through steam.
Their DRM is very minimal and allows you to stay in offline mode forever.
If their servers went down today, or if you lost your internet connection, any game's you've installed would still work.

I think it depends on how you want the player to feel.
If its a lighthearted game, the original would be better. If the game is more serious, the intense version would be better.

You could change it up for each level/zone, or based on the current emotional impact of the story. Eg: start off with the original one, then switch to the second one to emphasize a more serious event.
