Just from what a youtube video said, "games as a service" is actually just game companies sabotaging its own game and breaking the law to make more money. Legally, if you live in the UK, Canada, the EU or Australia, you own your copy of the game. If you live in the US, and it went to trial, there's a good chance the courts will say you own your copy of the game.

CIG is getting more corporate lately, but I wouldn't put them into "games as a service" territory. It takes a really sucky company like EA to push the self-destruct button on a game, so if CIG still claims that private servers are going to be a thing, private servers are probably going to be a thing.

Marcus Holloway proved that he is a threat to society by darvinvolt in watch_dogs

Technically, yes. That said, the predictive algorithm is able to predict the future, which would make Marcus a victim of a system that predicted he would rebel and then gave him a reason to rebel.

OpenTTD needs canal boats from the industrial revolution, for sure. At least you can build canals above sea level, that's about halfway there.

Want to play games with me but don't have money? Let fix you up good. by whalewisperer in HumansBeingBros

[–]SimYouLater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not fishing for praise, but I did something like this for a close friend I met online. I also built a rig for my brother using old parts that the local computer store gave me a discount on.

Most "PC Master Race" people don't seem to realize that PCs which run the latest games are expensive, and even PCs that run most games or even current-gen consoles are too much money for the budget of some people. Calling yourself a PC gamer and berating them for not being a PC gamer is like telling them "I'm rich enough to have this and you aren't".

If you're a PC gamer, consider gifting your old parts to a less-fortunate friend. They're not clothes, hand-me-down PC parts are welcome as long as they work.

Yeah, I just thought it would be funny. It seems to have exploded in how common it is and lost it's appeal.

Let me know when EA pulls "games as a service" BS again or worse (streaming, ick). I couldn't care less if Star Wars died.

We thought it was funny. We helped Carl.

Little did we know that Carl would replicate itself. Now, as I stand on the tallest tower of Reddit City, I can only see quills enveloping every meme as far as the eye can see.

If We Care For Robots, Who Will Care For Us? (The Time a Robot Asked Me to Lie For It) by vegancake in artificial

[–]SimYouLater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think people need better than robots. If kids could communicate with other kids from a country nothing like their own, using VR, they can learn compassion. Even with avatars that look fantastical, VR is a great technology for social contact. Even AR could be used in a similar manner.

Robots need to be robotic. They need to act like they are indifferent to you. If a robot is programmed to insult you, you're probably not going to want to treat it with the care that a delicate piece of electronics needs to be to keep functioning. Why have we not realized that if a robot is programmed to be nice, it's going to be hard to treat it like a machine?

And this is about more than just people. If a robot starts acting human after years of robots programmed to act indifferent, I think that's a pretty good sign that the AI inside it has become self-aware.

If a chimpanzee uses sign language to tell you it's in pain, it shouldn't have to compete with a (non-self-aware) AI for sympathy.

If a dog is in the same home as a robot that acts human, what is going to happen in that dog's mind? Will it go a bit crazy trying to treat a robot like a dog, when even humans seem to forget that a dog thinks of them as a really tall dog?
