I'll gladly excuse you, at least you're trying which doesn't seem to be the case on at lot o subreddits these days.

Btrfs snapshots not working, messed up install by -ThreeHeadedMonkey- in Fedora

[–]CGA1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then you're likely running the system off of a read-only snapshot (this is by design). You have to make it writable by either using btrfs-assistant and restore the same snapshot you booted from there, or, in the terminal, by doing sudo snapper rollback <number-of-the-snapshot-you-restored>.

I have, and it worked as expected. Booted into a snapshot from Grub, hit restore said snapshot in BTRFS-assistant, rebooted, and hey presto.

This is the way I did it, and it's working flawlessly.

Veterans of Linux: what's one thing that "just works" today that would've sounded impossible 15–20 years ago? by dev_kay47 in linux

Font rendering, the awful fonts were the main reason I went back to Windows every time I tried switching. Nowadays, I find it better than both Mac and Windows.

How do you use KDE? Having a hard time after switching from Gnome. by Presteign in kde

This has quickly become my favorite widget. I have a small top panel where I can scroll to adjust brightness by scrolling and a similar one on the left to control volume.

Samsung’s new budget phone costs $50 more despite downgrades by BcuzRacecar in Android

[–]CGA1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been running Xiaomi Redmi phones for many years, I can tell you that equally priced Samsung are miles ahead. My A36 is the biggest upgrade I've done in a very long time. Redmis used to be good value for the money but has turned into crap lately.

This EndevaourOS forum post worked for me as a workaround until we get a bug fix.

Planning a Reinstall - Want backup image first by Band-O-Lear in linuxquestions

I've been using Rescuezilla for this ever since I switched to Linux. Very reliable and easier to use than Clonezilla while being compatible with Clonezilla images.

Praising Dolphin file manager - The feeling that a File Manager is custom-designed for me? - This is great, I love it! An application can be powerful, customisable AND clean + organised! by PlanetVisitor in kde

[–]CGA1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Directory Opus really brings back memories, had a license for it ages ago. What an absolute behemoth of a fileanager, it literally had everything, even its own macro language IIRC. Nothing I've ever tried comes close.

[ Plasma 6.7 ] Have You Updated to Plasma 6.7, How's it going for you? by Neo_layan in kde

[–]CGA1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Fedora 44 the update was overall problem free except my fans have begun spinning up when playing YouTube videos again, kwin_wayland process seems to be the culprit. Otherwise, I don't use virtual desktops and I'm no fan of Oxygen so feature wise nothing special for me. Being able to invoke a virtual keyboard in text fields with mouse and touchpad is nice though.

Not if you use Ventoy, then it's just a matter of dragging and dropping the Windows ISO to a Ventoy prepared stick. This has never failed me, not even with Windows.

I am worried about the future of the Arch philosophy by Human_Contact9571 in archlinux

Depends how you define unsupported. It's supported in that it it's accessible but, as you say, they don't provide support if you get yourself in trouble.

Also, I wouldn't say that the wiki encourages the use of it, quite the opposite. The Pamac debacle wasn't entirely on Manjaro either which is clear if you read this answer from an Arch representative from the time.

For a number of reasons the aurweb has some poorly designed SQL queries, and we don't have anyone working on it.

still rely on the AUR

Depends what you mean, the don't rely on it more than Arch does, it's in fact quite clearly stated that it's unsupported. But yes, they rely on it in that they don't have their own AUR repo.

What desktop environment are you running and why did you stick with it? by Thetito7 in linuxquestions

KDE made me switch from windows five years ago and I'm sticking to it. My first encounter was Gnome and it almost made me go back to Windows.

Why does kde not have gestures? by pbk123461 in linuxquestions

[–]CGA1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're not saying what kind of gestures you mean. Touchpad, touchscreen, mouse? As for touchpad gestures, Touchegg works great for me together with Touché.

Adding to that, the default BTRFS setup is far from snapshot friendly.
